: Adding a DVD system at dealership VS Aftermarket DVD

Hi all,

I was reading up on some of the posts and read how the 08 DVD system lets the video play on the front screen also as long as you are in Park and have your side brakes on. I was initially thinking of getting an aftermarket headrest DVD system (mainly because I don't like it being in the top center of the car), but when I heard about the OEM one playing on the front screen, I am really thinking of getting it. Also, I don't like how the DVD control console is there regardless of whether you have the DVD system or not.

So I guess my question is:

Are the cars automatically wired to support DVD and will I get the same end result, i.e. the front screen play while in park? (sometimes getting it done at the dealership, and having it come with DVD from the production line is different?).

Also, if I can get the pros and cons of both types of systems (aftermarket headrest, aftermarket flipdown type, and the OEM flipdown type), that would be great. To me, being able to watch it on the front is a big plus for me, and I'm not tech savy whatsoever, so I won't be able to do anything myself. In addition, since the car is brand new I would be reluctant to have work done that would void warranty.

Really sorry for the noob questions, but I would appreciate your feedback and insight. Thank you!

I just reread your Purchase thread and realized you already bought the truck. The only way to go is aftermarket for the DVD. You can use an FM Modulator or splice into the backside of the AUX Jack to get the sound over your radio speakers if you want. This is the best deal I've seen on a Myron & Davis system and I'd recommend it. Additional Monitors can be added if you want more video.

I'm not a big fan of the type that flips down from the top. I was gonna get the OEM flipdown type only if the dealership can make the front ones work also exactly like it would if the car had DVD at the production line. Since they can not, I would probably go with the headrest type.

Gotcha!! You can get them with their own built in players or you can just get screens that attach to a dedicated player to play the same movie on both screens. I hope this answers some of your questions.

Has anyone here found a way to play an aftermarket DVD over the front screen yet??
