: 4wd vs 2wd mileage
RevTech 02-08-2008, 07:11 PM As I'm trying to make a decision on the Armada I want, what is the difference in fuel mileage between 4wd and 2wd. I really don't think I would use 4wd that often, but it would be nice to have if I needed it. I know it's about 300lbs more weight. Thanks
I don't think it's that much different. I think the more significant difference is probably between Tow Package -vs- non-Tow.
On a 4x4 w/ Tow Package, I would expect about 14.0 mpg daily with OEM wheels and tires. I'm guessing the 2WD non-Tow might be 15.x mpg daily. Upgrading Wheels and Tires kills MPG's on either unless you keep the OEM wheels and change the tires to Michelins because they are lightweight.
RevTech 02-09-2008, 11:39 AM I thought that with 4wd you got the same gearing as with the tow pkg.
No, I don't think so. The Lower Gear Ratio is part of the Tow Package. There's nothing that I've seen say that it's part of the 4x4 option.
RevTech 02-09-2008, 09:20 PM Thanks, having this site and the knowledge of everyone here is a big help to me in refining my choice in options I want in my Armada.
only had our 04 Armada for about a week but have put a couple of tanks through it and am getting 17 in town and highway. LE 4x4 with Tow pkg

Wow.. that is great, how do you do it? Ive only been able to pull 17 on the straight interstate on cruise control. In the city/town, Im averaging 13-15MPG, LE 4x2 with Tow pkg.
mikeak 05-23-2008, 08:01 AM Talk to the dealer.
They are changing a few things on the Armada and makings some items standard. The lower gear ratio etc should just be for Tow Package, but it is starting to come bundled.....
I would build the vehicle on Nissanusa.com and see what is available (if you select something that is standard on 4X4 it will add it automatically and tell you what it did)
Second - 17mpg mixed driving 4X4 Tow Package - WTF - how?? Bring a video camera to show you drive please (so I can learn - lol)
singleshot 05-23-2008, 11:49 AM 17 mpg...WOW!! I have an '08 LE 4x4 w/tow and am averaging 11.5 in town. I feel I'm keeping my foot out of it too. Sometimes I feel like an old lady and it kills me with all this HP under the hood. Please tell us your secret.
Barmada 05-23-2008, 01:10 PM We use the E85 and average about 9.8 in town with the '08 LE 4x4 w/tow.
mikeak 05-23-2008, 05:40 PM Single - well I can beat that :). My city driving so far (new) is 13.4. As I think was brought up in another thread (Pops if I am not wrong) watch out for the 10% ethanol mixup - places here have it marked, which helps me to pick the right gas-stations.
mistertmac 05-23-2008, 06:28 PM I went to Columbus, GA yesterday, and noticed that the pumps on post said "Contains No more than 10% Ethanol"
thundertracks 05-23-2008, 10:34 PM Last trip I took about 2 weeks ago, I got to 340 miles when the low fuel light came on, about 70 miles of that was in town, the rest highway, with 4 adults and baggage. I filled up mileage figured at 16.5 mpg. 04 Armada SE w/Big Tow, 20" QX56 chrome wheels with Michelin 275/60/20 tires. Highway speed about 75mph, no a/c.
I've only had 2 tanks through it so it may change. The first was almost all highway and it was 18.3mpg. The second has been mostly a mix of in town and 20 mile highway runs and it's been in the 17's. I wouldn't say I'm driving that conservative, 70-75 on the highway and trying not to spin the tires from a stop in town. This weekend I'm pulling our 21 ft. ski boat to the lake an hour away so I'll have some numbers on that too.

Thats still ridiculously high. 18.3MPG is higher than the manufacturer specs (12-17MPG). I drive like an old lady, to TRY to maximize fuel efficiency, and that still doesnt work. Hmmm.... confusing.:crikey:
mikeak 05-24-2008, 04:34 PM PURS - do you mind posting your total miles per tank? These numbers are just really up there (which is great for you). However, I have to wonder if there is something wrong with the mpg tracker... just sounds to good to be true.
When I drove mine home I calmly put it on the highway and then put it in cruise at about 74 and had about 16.6 or so and that was all hwy driving.
Even posting miles per 1/2 tank will work. The most I've gotten is 200 miles per 1/2 tank when traveling. Right now, I'm closer to 150 miles per 1/2 tank for my daily driving.
KuwlArmada 05-25-2008, 10:39 AM All right, just tested it all out and with my S&B CAI and throttle body spacer in my 2004 Offroad SE 4x4 I am now getting between 13-14 mpg in town (and there are lots of traffic lights), and 18mpg on the highway. They aren't the best numbers but for our thirsty Armada's I guess I can accept them.
BlakSpyda 05-25-2008, 12:08 PM Those are great numbers KuwlArmada. I wonder if our mileage is improving because of the summer formula that is being sold now? Hmmmm!
mikeak 05-27-2008, 08:47 PM I was thinking that since gas is about $4.07 here I should get a higher quality product..... no?
