: Land Rover Demo Course
Just curious if anyone has been tempted to test their Armada out on one of those Land Rover Demonstration Courses. Back when we were looking around, the local Land Rover Sales guys were proud of their Land Rover Demonstration course and the fact that "Any Land Rover model can make it through this course and there's no other vehicle made that can, not even Hummer". They also told me that I'm welcome to take any vehicle I want through the course after signing a waiver. I think my Armada is up to the challenge now so it sounds pretty tempting. :D
I've been tossing around the idea of picking up some of the Nissan Sales folks and driving them through the course just to show the Land Rover boys up. What do ya'll think, is it stupid or a waste of time to try?? :D
Here's what I'm talking about: http://www.landroverusa.com/us/en/Dealers/At_the_Retailer/Rock%20Course.htm
BlakSpyda 02-15-2008, 02:49 PM I don't think it is a waste of time, but me personally wouldn't do it!
Unless I had and Armada rental!
spta97 02-15-2008, 03:01 PM Oh HELL YEA! And throw in 8 people while you do it.
I guess I'll see if they're still making the same claims and still using it as a "challenge" course then I'll look it over if they are. I cannot imagine there's much more than anything that I've already been through since I really don't think those Land Rovers can out perform a mini-lifted Mada. I'll also check to see if the Nissan guys are interested. No sense messing with it if none of them are interested but I would think it'd be cool for them to be able to tell potential buyers that a Nissan completed the Land Rover course and I'll try to get them to snap some pics if I do go for it.
Campfamily 02-15-2008, 03:27 PM Not suggesting you will, but will be pretty embarrassing if you get stuck!

The only way I see the Armada getting stuck is if ground clearance is an issue. Pehahps you should take off your running boards?
Not any more embarrassing than when I was following some dirt bikes and high centered my Durango on top of a hill where it was teeter tottering. The bikes had all stopped on the other side and pulled out their cameras on the other side and were waiting for me and they were clapping and laughing while taking pics. I had to jump up and down while standing on the Nerf Bar to rock it enough to get it down. Now, THAT was embarrassing and I learned to always look first. :D Oh yea, then there was the time that a Cop pulled me over to check ID for offroading in my Mercedes. I was on some very strong perkiset (or however you spell it) after having my hand sewn back together and he said "I've just never seen anyone take a Mercedes offroading before. Thought maybe it might be stolen". :D
Armada Chick 02-15-2008, 03:42 PM I'd love to see you get through, but hate to see you get stuck!!!
BlakSpyda 02-15-2008, 03:45 PM Don't know how the whole LR course looks, but my only fear would be roll-over! The Jeep course from the Auto Show was pretty hot!

I'll look the thing over really good and chicken out if I see there's any chance of getting stuck or causing any damage. There's noway that I'll risk any damage to a $40k vehicle. If I decide not to do it, I'll post the reason.

Sound logic. No point in ruining your Armada on a dare. That's one of the bonuses of being an adult - you can walk away and everyone understands :)
NorCalMada 02-15-2008, 06:32 PM I have taken my 04 RR out a few times and thought I was not going to come out of it and the car still be driveable and it has yet to do so. I have never taken LR challenge courses but have been to a few and seen the cars is action, I dont know about an Armada completing them (ground clearance with running boards) but I have seen Hummers do just fine on those courses.
NewbieDrew 02-15-2008, 11:28 PM Let's go! Where do we meet?
Don't see any problems with ground clearance if you take the boards and air dam off. Problems I see are the weight on a steep incline and the width.
If a Hummer H2 or H3 can do it, we can do it no problemo.
norcal05SE 02-16-2008, 11:33 PM i ran a jeep course like that at camp jeep in '04. fun stuff!! no way a mada could do that crap!! we could take the lr course no prob though, ran my tj on one in orange county in late '04. piece of cake for my wrangler, did it in 2wd with the rear locker engaged. lets all road trip to one LR dealer and kill their course!!
It's been pouring rain all last night and today so I didn't wanna try it today. I looked at it and it's not at all what I expected to see. Much, much smaller than I had imagined. I will say that I agree with Spyda that it looks like a rollover might be very possible on those side inclines. I know that they can be done with proper angling but I don't know if we can get through them as smoothly with our higher center of gravity. At stock height, the running boards are definitely an issue. The taller rocks look like they're measured out for the shorter wheelbase to never have both tires on the ground when rolling over them, kinda deceiving to a potential buyer if that is the case. :D
It is an intimidating looking little course, I won't be going on it without looking it over really well until feeling comfortable with it which may not happen. Running Boards can be fixed but a rollover would just be plain stupid. I'm glad that I'm not the only one curious about it though. :D
