: clunk sound going from first to second gear
qx56talk 02-19-2008, 02:29 PM Hello out there in Armada expert land,
Just a curious sound I hear when I first start the car and move. When the car goes from first to second gear for the first time, I can hear a very light clunk sound under the car. If I have the radio on I can't even hear it, but when I don't have anything else on, I can definitely hear it. This only happens when the car switches gears for the first time after starting the car. Anybody else hear it and know what it might be? It does not seem to be a problem because the car works fine. Thanks.
That's most likely the ABS Self-Check. The ABS system self-checks itself everytime you start rolling for a ways after sitting for awhile and it sounds sorta like a light "Thump". It's totally independant from shifting but does usually happen around the time of shifting into second so it can easily be misleading. Mine usually happens when I'm almost to the end of my street block.

How interesting! Thanks for the learning Pops! :udaman:
Seems like I learn something new everyday on this site.
qx56talk 02-19-2008, 03:28 PM Me too. Thanks Pops. I didn't think it was a problem but I just couldn't think of what it might be.
Yea, I wondered about that noise too until I saw Scr38 post it up one day. ;)
Nickoli415 02-19-2008, 09:04 PM that noise got me worried too when i heard it....but mine happens everytime going from first to second, even if i turn the mada off for a few minutes and then pull away, clunk when shifting to second...
If it's from changing gears then I would think you should get it when leaving from a stoplight or stop sign too. If you know for a fact that it's definitely the gears then you might want to have your Transmission Fluid Level checked. Another thing that could cause that is a worn U-Joint on the drive shaft but that's also noticable when shifting P-R-N-D.
Nickoli415 02-21-2008, 12:50 PM I'm gonna have to check those as soon as I Get my Mada in Germany. It'll take about a month to get shipped from Fl to Germany. Don't know if they have Nissan Dealerships there???? So hopefully, it's nothing serious.
.... Don't know if they have Nissan Dealerships there???? ....
Of course they do. Hopefully there will be one close enough to base.

BlakSpyda 02-21-2008, 04:45 PM There are Nissan Dealers in Germany. I live ther for 5 years and there were a few. I had my Montero LS when I was there and dealt with a German Mitsubishi service department. There was a Nissan Dealer about a block away. Iwill give the German mechanics High Praises. They are really proud of the work and do an outstanding job.
Nickoli415 02-22-2008, 12:00 AM Thanks (Pops and BlakSpyda)!!!! And I thought I was going to be making all the repairs myself for the next 4 years!!!!...hahaha....whew, now I can relax.

Where are you going to in Germany? I was stationed Zweibrucken, but lived in Kaiserslautern (K-Town). I have some friends still over there and if you tell me where you are going, I might be able to tell you the nearest Nissan Dealer?
Nickoli415 02-23-2008, 10:59 PM We're headed to Spangdahelm...heard it's more of the countryside???
BlakSpyda 02-23-2008, 11:11 PM Yeah it is. I haven't been to Spangdahlem at all and don't know antone there.
I thought they closed it years ago. Apparently not! Either way Bro, good luck to you and your family.
Nickoli415 03-05-2008, 01:21 PM finally got a hold of a computer over here....havent seen a nissan dealership here so far but fortunately i have seen 2 armada's so far and a few titans so that a plus....this place is like paradise compared to oklahoma....no offense POPS.... a lot of hills and curvy roads, nothing but green, and when it snowed it was just beautiful.....plus the autobahn, still waitin on my Mada to get here though to see what the top speeds gonna be though....back in okc, i got it up to 110mph on I44 going to Tulsa....i'll take some pics and post them when i get settled in to our rental home....
