: What type of gas do you use?

Just a quick question to any one. Why type gas is suggested for the Armada? I've been using unleaded regular. I only tried plus maybe twice. since gas is getting expensive here in San DIego, I guess I got spoiled or should I say...force to use unleaded regular. Any suggetions on you guys recommend. Even as gas prices continue to rise in Cali, I was thinking of start using plus or maybe even premium. With that V8 in the aramda, it seem might be better to use a high grade type of gas. I'm thinking getting to most life out of engine, or not risk any problems down the line.

Stick with 87 octane (Regular). That is what is recomended. Using anything else will just cost you money and not give you any major gain.

Thanks for the responce Spyda. Just needed to know if over a period of time would it cause problems. I was thinking of upgrading ever now and then,

I agree with Spyda. I've been using 87oct and I think that I have noticed a difference in where I buy from so I try to fill up at newer Shell and Conoco stations if possible.

Thank again Pops. I always used Shell 87oct. I heard that Chevron was good as well.

I use 87 "regular unleaded". but some crappy states have 85 octane regular unleaded....so i will pony up for mid-grade when I see 85 octane regular.

When I tow in the mountains I usually fill up with premium before hand, just to avoid pre-detonation.

Even those of you that have the 2* advance are using 87?

87 Octane from either Chevron or a Diamond Shamrock. I get "better performance" when using Chevron. Or so it seems that way and also seems to last about 10-15 miles more overall per complete fill-up.

Yup now is about $3.50 a gallon..and I only use Sunoco, Mobil and exxon..hmmm...would I lose performance if I use 87???

I don't think so. Cars that call for premium gas typically will have an engine software map that takes advantage of the additional octane - in that case if you use regular gas you lose power.

Cars that call for 87 octane do not see a benefit from premium gas because the computer is mapped for lower octane.

if your car is desigend for 87 that is what you should run

you are wasting $$ and actually hurting performance with 93

i lost mpg on my mustang when i ran 93 when the car was stock requiring 87

Like Pops said, Yep. I use I have the timing advance done and use 87 octane.

Not at all.

I thought that I read somewhere on these boards that the use of 87 w/2 degree timing advance would result in some sort of engine tapping.. I could be wrong. If this is the case, for those that use 87 with the 2*, you just ignore the tapping? I'm just trying to figure out the down side to the 2* advance. If there is no downside, then I definately want to get it done.

No tapping here. I only remember seeing that posted as a presumed myth. The only downfall that I know of is that very few people have seen an MPG decrease instead of an increase.

Thanks Pops. I just got done reading through the forum link you posted. Seems like it was just a myth ;). I think there is a meet coming up soon in VA. I might stop by there and get it hooked up.

Edit: LOL.. NVM, the meet was this past weekend. :)
