Help! I have just installed a new hitch on my wife's 07 SE, but my trailer has no running lights. Everything else works as far as turn signals and brake lights. This hitch, plug and relays came from Nissan dealer. I used an adapter to go from 7-pin connector to 4; could this be the problem? It was working on my truck.

Did you install a relay under the dash to the left of the steering column? That relay controls the trailer running lights. The two relays for the turn signals are in the relay box under the hood.

I followed OEM directions that came with hitch from dealer. It said nothing about relay under the dash. For electric trailer brakes it mention jumper harness connection under dash. I talked with service department at Dearlership and he said the problem must be with the relays being in the wrong spot. I told him they were only 3 spots open under the hood, 2 for the small relays and 1 for the large relay.

The 06 and up are different than the 04-05. There is a relay that is under the dash. It is relay 1, and is indicated as "A" in the attached drawings.

How do you get to the relay under the dash? I installed the 3 inside the black box by the battery. if this helps my trailer does not have brakes, just an 8x10 snowmobile trailer.

On the 06 and up you need the relay (marked A in the drawing in my post above) to have running lights on the trailer. This relay is not used on the 04-05s.

This trailer light topic and all related threads should be a sticky post containing the ultimate solution.
As far as the exact placement of that final relay under the driver's side dash? An excellent solution was posted by Roadhog here (http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12150&highlight=trailer+relay). Of course, I wouldn't have gotten very far without the important information from scr38.
Thank you!

Thanks for posting this! Have had this issue on 3 separate occasions... including TODAY!
*edit*
Added pics collaged together showing difference from no relay to blue relay being added. Just pulled one of the two blue relays from under the hood, and BADDA-BOOM, I now have running lights. Now, I gotta buy a relay to replace the one I pulled. LOL BTW, I have fat hands & fingers, and was able to fit my hand up the underside of the dash (w/ the e-brake fully pressed) in order to insert the relay in the socket. There was no need to pull the dash apart (but certainly great for illustration & instructional purposes).
