Just had my OEM Tranny fluid flushed and refilled at the dealership. I have 11,970 on the '07 Mada and I am absolutely amazed at the difference in shifting now. No slippage at all, much quicker and firmer shifts, and no more big -duuuuuh- between gears. I had them use matic J since they no speaky de nada other than Nissan (I'm sure they lose tons of business by being so automtively uneducated) and I must deduce from the difference that Nissan uses some sort of different break in fluid or break in additive that they don't advertise. I actually chirped 2nd on the way home from the dealer. Only took them 5 days to get it done!

Has anyone changed the tranny fluid themselves? Seems like the stealerships want alot to do it.

$90. at Houston NW Baker Jackson. Annnnnd- they assured me that they flushed the tranny too. I don't really see how since a flush takes at least 16qts of tranny fluid at $14+ a pop, so I'll take it someplace else next time.

In all my years of driving, I have erred on the side of preventative maintenance. In each car that I have had, I changed the trans fluid at 12K-ish then at the next 12k to see what the build up was, discoloration etc. Then I would change at what I guessed was the dirty interval... Unless I was racing, then I changed all of them once a year.
That being said, since I saw such a dramatic change in the shifting firmness and apparent drop in stall speed after the change, I think that Nissan uses a different fluid for breakin than the Nissan Matic-J. They say they don't but the truth is in the butt dyno.
Also, naturally the most wear occurs during the break in. The car felt broke in at about 8K but 11k was the soonest I could get to the dealership to have them change it. I also changed the transfer case fluid and both diff fluids. I'll do them again at 24k and see what's in the color of the fluid then.
