: Brakes squeak
rsh_757 03-13-2008, 11:54 PM I have noticed that every time my wife leaves the garage, while backing up, that her first step on the brake pedal generates a squeak, a pretty good one too. This doesn't continue other than this initial cold movement. I have called the dealer about it, they told me it was a known issue that didn't have a fix and gave me an explanation about pad material. Is this really a common issue? The car has done it since the day we took delivery and like clockwork, the noise resides the minute we are moving forward until it has sat overnight.
It is a 2008 LE 4x4 and has 4900 miles on it.
Any ideas to cure this little nuisance in otherwise what I consider to be the most perfect vehicle in the universe as we know it?
Our Murano did that for awhile, it should go away over time. I've been doing a lot of homework on pads lately because I'm about due for some. This is information from different people and I'm still working on confirming this info.
So far, I've been told that OEM pads are mainly organic sorta like EBC Greenstuff but still with some ceramic in them. I was also told that we need to avoid organic pads like EBC on vehicles this heavy and we really need to stay with good ceramic pads. BlackBeauty pointed me to some ceramics for $75 a pair which is the same price as OEM or EBC. I'll post more info as I find more out and explain my final decision for whatever I get.
eurohazard 03-14-2008, 01:55 AM Mine does it on occasion too, but just for that first brake-pedal-push of the day. Then it's good to go the rest of the day.
BlakSpyda 03-14-2008, 11:16 AM Squeaks are no problem. Grinding is.
Mine squeaks every day when I leave home an work if it's parked all day! It stops.
rsh_757 03-14-2008, 11:48 AM It doesn't even bother me. Not one iota. There are other parties attached to this vehicle who use it on a much more frequent basis and maybe don't understand little things like this. I guess I better just go to Victoria's Secrets, get some flowers and buy chocolate as a fix.
Heck, It only does it ONCE!
Grease them. - J/K
Wifey was the same way when hers started so I told her I can grease the pads to stop it. She said "Great" so I waited a couple weeks of her asking me to "grease her pads" before I told her that her brakes won't work if I do that. :D I also gave her the price of new pads  so she said "No, that's ok, the sqeaking once in the morning is fine then". ;)

HAHAHAHA..
You don't mind if I borrow that one do you? Actually both..
I posted it to be "barrowed". I left out the only part you wouldn't want use where I told her that I needed to use the grease for something and her mouth had been doing a lot of squaking lately so maybe I found a need for it afterall. That one bought me some doghouse time but the kids were rolling over laughing and feeding more into it for a good 15-20 mins. :D
BlakSpyda 03-14-2008, 03:00 PM Doghouse time is OK! I consider that some well deserved Me time!
eurohazard 03-14-2008, 09:51 PM This thread turned "awesome" in no time! lol
rsh_757 03-17-2008, 11:34 AM So I used the "I can fix it, I will just grease 'em and they will stop making noise" line. It worked, she won't be saying anymore about it unless it squeaks later. The marital contract has been amended with such wording. Problem fixed.
K-dawg42 04-22-2008, 10:49 AM I have the squeaking too, at first i hated it. everyday when i roll out of the drive way which is steep...
I have already been through 2 sets of pads and new rotors (If you are in Atlanta and you need parts let me know i can get you a great deal with labor included) becuase i thought the pads were bad...turns out it just happens once a day.
9balllrook 05-05-2008, 05:40 PM I've been complaining to my dealer about my brakes squeeking since I got my new in 06. My dealer checked and rechecked and finally at 26,000 miles resurfaced the rotors...temporary fix, I have asked about it every time I'm in for service and when they checked again 2 weeks ago they told me my rotors were warped again and it would cost me upwards of $200 to have them turned again, of course I challenged that emailed and called Nissan USA and after a week of stupid questions they agreed to pick up the tab. I took it in the other day for it's resurfacing and got it back even worse. It went back in this morning to figure out what was wrong and to no surprise they are still warped BUT Nissan has agreed to replace them. Keep complaining and keep records, Nissan is pretty good about standing behind their product (after a load of stupid questions!)
marctronixx 12-10-2010, 12:52 PM 9 ball,
how has this kept up 2 years later?
i had new monroe brake pads and rotors turned (oem rotors) at nissan back in march or april and just a few weeks ago i have a reall nice squeal somewhere in back. i think the rotors could be resurfaced again. it happens AFTER tings warm up--doesnt happen at first.
im thinking this is a rotor turning fix... any comments from the class?
i got the pads form shock warehouse. http://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/product.cfm?id=588533 (fronts but i purchased the rears as well)
and let me ask this, can any midas/goodyear type shop do this or SHOULD i keep it "in the family"? (meaning should i let dealer handle this?) :D
9balllrook 12-10-2010, 01:35 PM after Nissan took care of my brake issues 3 times, I finally ran out of warrenty and replaced them with after market rotors and pads and no problems since!
marctronixx 12-10-2010, 08:44 PM im sure you have mentioned this before, but which rotors did you go to? im sure one of the rotors on my car causing the squeak is up front and probably is warped from me perhaps laying on the brakes hard at some point...
also who installed the rotors for you and the costs associated with this?
and thank you for the reply!
