Hey Guys,
I live in Tampa, Fl and most of our gas stations are carrying E10. The problem I have with this is, you don't have a choice of buying 100% regular gasoline gas...
I know the gas companies are claiming this is safe and MOST car manufacturers will still warranty your engine when using E10 gas, but what if NISSAN doesn't warranty E10?
Read this article for more info on E10 in South FL.

What are some of your thoughts on this new E10 gas?
Thanks

Straight gasoline or E10, the requirement is 87 Octane.
I think as long as you are meeting the 87 octane requirement, they cannot say anything was done wrong!

Like the article said, E10 has been used throughout the country for a number of years. Haven't paid attention to what kind of gas is here in Georgia but having lived in the midwest (Illinois, Missouri) for the previous 16 years, we had E10 since at least 2003. No problems with it and I've got 70K+ on the 2003 Murano and 40K+ on the 2005 Murano, both running E10 throughout their lives.

I have an 08 FFV - so no issue- is there a real upside to the ethanol? vehicles get worse mileage - so I am not convinced that in the long room it really improves the air

No problems. I have been all around the country, and it's 90/10 just about everywhere.

Here's a good article on ethanol precautions. http://www.fuel-testers.com/ethanol_engine_precautions.html
We had a local university do a study about 12 years ago (I wish I could find it) that showed ethanol will damage engines if it has over 20% blend. Higher octane is recommended if you aren't emptying your tank often.

10 % ethanol, will see your fuel milage drop 10-20% and the octane rating is artificially boosted to 87 with the alcohol mix.
I get better milage and power with straight 87 gas ( we still have real (sic) gas for a year or so, yet)
Better for the air??? i doubt it is takes 1.1 time the amount of energy to produce the alcohol than it makes, and most of the energy used is in diesel powered tractors, combines , and semis spewing particulate into the air.
Global warming isthe biggest sham to hit the world. No one can tell me how a large reptile( cold blooded creature, needs stable warm environment to live) such as a T-Rex existed in the area of the Alberta bad lands. How warm was the earth such that this large animal was able to survive at those northern latitudes????

Speaking of warranties....
Here's the link to what our NISSAN warranty covers....
(If you do a quick search through Adobe, since this link is a PDF, you won't see anything about E10 or Ethanol)....

The warranties only mention improper, dirty or contaminated fuels as a warranty issue.
