I have always had issues with the distance between the front and rear cross bars. Fianlly looks like there is a solution to that problem. Check this link out.

Did you end up buying the rack extension? I am getting a rack Snowboards and Skis and was hoping I could get by without out it. But I think I am going to have to get it.

I had to get a similar product for my Honda civic two door. Problem there was that the roof was too short for a set of aftermarket racks. So they created a set up to fix the problem. This looks about the same.
Wish they had made the roof rack extend the length of the roof like my Volvo wagon. Would have solved the problem.
