My Mada is at the local dealership for bodywork caused by a maliscious deer on the road.. While there I spoke with the service manager. I complain, he listens and does not much. He said that the Mada in mid to late 2010 will have a dodge cummins diesel option, he mentioned 3 sizes, I only heard the 3ltr and 4ltr versions. Now's the time to start pinging Nissan to build it right. Like maybe a 5 liter option? All steel diffs with real lockers. Drive train capable of handling 800ftlbs of torque, increase the radius of the wheel wells by 2" all the way around, etc.
I took a look at the junk pile behind the dealership as well. A STACK of Armada front diffs. A few rear diffs, a STACK of Titan rear diffs. I asked the service manager if that was caused by low oil???? He asked why, since no one at any nissan dealership is required to ever check the diff fluid or transfer case fluid levels!!!!! Not during routine maintenance, not during the pre delivery inspection, not during the dealer prep, and not even when customers specifically order them to check the fluids (like I did). I informed of of the problem there and he said he'ld start trying to get the diff and transfer case fluids added to the checks checklist.
He also said that the dealer will only put in the quantity of fluid that his book says. 3.5 pints front and rear- approximate, I forget what he said about the transfer case... In any event the change instructions list the amounts. The inpection inspection instructions say to fill to sight hole level. (2.25qts for a diff, 3.3qts for a transfer case.) I observed to the service manager that it was physically impossible to overfill anything past the sight hole since a hole by it's very nature drains any overage out!!!! And obviously you can't fill with the plug in! :(
There is a typographical error in the books.
While there I also queried him about the gas gauge sticking below full after fill up- short story- I'm getting a new one. Long story- the vehicle computer takes a bunch of readings from the tank sensor. And if the sensor is bad, it throws off all sorts of indications. If you have a nav computer or scan gauge II, it will take the gas amount you entered for a fill up, compare it to the gauge reading of 3/4 ( so if you put in 25 gallons and it's only 3/4 full---) ANyway, your mpg will be way off, your miles to empty will be off, your time to empty will be calculated wrong, your fuel flow will be off, etc. etc. etc. So even if you don't have a sticking gas gauge; If your other readings that I listed are requiring a level three diagnosic exam, Scotty would say that the fuel tank pump/sensor is bad... Now-question??? if your fuel flow, fuel level, etc. is off, will your computer will heat up from conflicting inputs, just like trying to run 2 many programs or conflicting programs at the same time on your computer.
Also, there is a big acknowledged rust problem with the Mada's. The '08's have a more expansive fender well liner. Wider, longer/lower in the front, and with much better seals to the sides. They will bolt directly into a pre '08. I looked at the new one on the floor right next to my old one being replaced. Or you can buy heavy gauge sheet plastic at Graingers, or Northern Parts and add on to your current liner with pop rivets or bolts. Extending the liners will also keep you from throwing mud, rocks, and trash into the back side of your front bumper in the winter or drafting crap draining off your front bumper up into the innards.
And- as many of you have already posted. Every time I bring the car in for anything, they break twice as many things on it as it went in for. In that department- I'm getting a new glove box under warranty, and got a new AC vent under warranty. They chipped the passenger side door right under the mirror with something in the body shop, and they broke the cover off the hitch power supply cannon plug.
But no worries! When ever I asked the actual workers a question they all smiled and said Siiiiiii!
