Has anyone in the club thought of trying to convert the Armada to hydrogen...;)

I though about doing my Titan, but it's just a though.:D

I'd look at doing it, I'd love to, but there aren't any stations in the Northeast. I've thought about trying to buy a gas station and convert it to a Hydrogen station, but the money involved is probably insane. Not to mention, I might have 2 customers, me and my wife.

This is interesting!!! Converting an existing gasoline engine to Hydrogen is supposedly really expensive from my understanding. Anyone seen Water2gas (http://www.water2gas.com)??? - LOL - They are selling access to online how-to books, looks likely to be snake oil to me but it's an interesting approach.

I saw that on TV a while back Pops.:D If it could be done I think everyone would have done it by now.

Yea, I've seen it, it is oh so tempting to try it, I like the idea of bringing a gallon of water as extra fuel on a long trip. I'd like to think that if water was as viable a power source as they claim, then we would be hearing about it in the news, and I would also expect bottled water to be skyrocketing in price. Now there is a thought, would Evian be considered "premium" fuel? Is Salt water the new diesel? Every 15,000 miles, would you need ye old plop, plop, fizz, fizz to use as an engine additive?

Well there are post office trucks running on it now, Also there are many stations already setup in Calif. I saw the map with the locations. Also J.leno from the tonight show had a Hydrogen/gasoline car from Honda for three months then they came and took it back. He said the pistons were made different. We will get there. We are fight against big oil...

It will be a great opportunity once we get past the chicken-egg thing. Without the hydrogen refueling station infrastructure in place, none of the manufacturers are very excited about the R&D costs of fielding a true hydrogen vehicle. On the other hand, no one is going to build a nation-wide infrastructure of hydrogen refueling stations for the 200 or so test vehicles currently in operation.

When they come up with a nuclear power plant for my Armada, I'm in.

Actually if I remember correctly, GM had several Hydrogen test vehicle a few years back, but due to pressure from big oil they dismantled the whole car and idea as well. Believe me, anything that cuts into big oil, and investors of oil profits is a big no no, and they will do anything to protect it.

The GM Equinox Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is still around. Jay Leno was driving it all last week. Let me get my soapbox out here... I think that the first vehicles powered by fuel cells should be Semi's. With their size, the technology would not have to be miniaturized as much as it would to fit into a Honda. This would allow them to pull into truck stops and leave the engine running and the only by product would be water. I think by making big rig's more efficient and run on a cheaper fuel and run cleaner, we would see reduced costs at the stores, and since there would be less fuel used by trucking, the oil/gas supply would go up, reducing costs of fuel to the car driver, which would then give manufacturers time to miniaturize. Am I wrong? I think a national chain of CA truck stops that could refuel Hyrdogen Rigs should be created, and we all get a little bit of the profits :)

Hydrogen is a good idea, you produce it the same way the battery does, run electricity through water between plates and you get hydrogen-not much- but it's there. If you route the hydrogen up to the intake, what you get is the same as blowing in minute amounts of gas fumes. Computer reads it as a rich condition and backs off on the fuel flow to compensate- and you get better mileage. Same thing happens when you add acetone to the gas or when you unplug from the tanker and a shot of gas fumes goes down your intake! Engine says yee haw-free, already atomized fuel- windem up boyz! Then it's gone and you're back to normal. Problems- intake sucks too much and you get wet hydrogen- bad. No flow through ventilation in hydrogen generator, suction collapses generator. No flow through ventilation= no hydrogen to the engine- no reward for the effort. Problem #2- residual hydrogen in system with a backfire. (ever accidentally have your wife run your battery dry, get in, turn key, see flash, front of car almost lifts off ground, ears ring, hood gets bent?) BTDT twice- switched to Omega blue gel cell after that. Luckily it wasn't our Armada. And last of all, how in the heck do you produce enough hydrogen to make a difference on something pulling a hundred to 600 cf of air per minute? At 15 to 1 that's in the area of 40 cfm of Hydrogen, You would have to have the whole back end filled up with a hydrogen generator just to make it worth while. Hmmm- my lawnmower is another story!....

Thank you for the explanation! I was poking around and found that the Governator had arrived at the first Hyrdogen fuel station along the "Hydrogen Highway" in a new H2H, an H2 powered by Hydrogen, they also reported the range. It takes 12 pounds to propel the car 5 miles. It can go a whopping 60 miles per tank. I suppose that it is a good start, as long as they can keep moving the tech forward.

I wonder how they have managed to do it in Sweden for 40 plus years.. They showed how they make it on TV

This company sells everything needed even the machine that makes the Hydrogen....From what they said it takes a while to fill the tanks....Their kit is set up so you can run on gasoline or Hydrogen...Don't no anything about prices or when they will be selling anything.

Here is a updates on some of the kits that are on the market that are on the border of snake oil..
