: Burtman Burl Dash Kit Install/Review
blackrain 06-07-2005, 05:46 PM Overall I'm very pleased. This is the 2nd dash trim install I've done in my life. I read as many hints as I could get my hands on, Jason was very helpful in answering all my questions. The pieces are beautiful, the fit was 99% on, and that 3M backing is UNFORGIVING. Give yourself 2-4 hours, depending on how much of a perfectionist you are.
I will add these nuggets from my experience today. Jason's directions said prep with rubbing alcohol, directions on the kit said to use 3M Solvent Prep. FYI, the solvent prep WILL discolor the plastic door panels, be VERY careful. After spending 90 minutes finding/buying it, I ended up not using it. The rubbing alcohol took some light grey color off of the plastic/aluminum trim, this might have been dealer prep silicon? I don't know, but don't be afraid to yell out: "ALMIGHTY Q-TIPS...........I SUMMON THEE!" (This is the easy way to make the 2 hour job a 4 hour job)
When you fold back 15% of the backing off the adhesive, the backing serves as a little spring (see first picture), so you can set the piece down 85% of the way, with the little backing/spring waiting patiently for you to just touch the sticky end....now you are commited. Then you peel the remainder off with tweezers or long needle nose pliers for the big pieces. If you have ever wallpapered before, this will bring back memories (nightmares in my case)
I was working in 85-90 degrees, :hothot: with the pieces on the dash cooking before placement. This made bending the top above the radio, and curling the piece around the key insert area much easier. The hotter the surface, the easier it is to pull the piece off if you misfire.
A second pair of hands is helpful in lining up the two giant center pieces, that way you have someone to share the blame with, hehe. Actually, because the top is curved away from you a bit, you can lay 90% of the piece down before you have to commit.........sweet.
Some of the pics will resemble Jason's, but I post them because this job was done by an amateur, your mileage may vary. Good Luck!
justayear2004 06-07-2005, 08:38 PM This looks really nice! Does anyone know if this type of mod will help or hurt resale values?
Also, I have to say that I love the grey interiors!!! They look so classy and much more expensive then mine does. My 04 is the Gold outside and icky yellow inside. They call it sand but don't kid yourself - it is like baby poop yellow. My brother has a black, 04 Titan and it has a really nice two toned color interior of sand and gray - looks very nice. If it wouldn't cost me a full arm and leg, I would replace the seat covers. The carpet is also very light in this vehicle so it gets dirty really easy. I kind of like the gold outside though because I have never seen another one in Tucson.
Again - congratz - this looks great!!

Great job on the install! Looks very, very nice. I'm glad you like your "new" look.
This will only HELP resale. It's funny, you wouldn't believe how many dash kits I see to owners with "leased" vehicles. I received more than a few emails about people getting more money back when leaving the kit installed, and this is on leased vehicles! This will definitely help towards resale.
I have dealers buying these kits and puttin them in older cars just to move them. It does help. Also, they sell our kits for $699 installed!
AZARMADA 06-08-2005, 05:14 AM Very Nice!!

Do you have a kit that would accommodate those who have aftermarket stereo installed?

Was that dash area cut out specifically for your radio? Or is that a nissan part your bought with the double din already cut out?
Poohdaddy 06-08-2005, 05:11 PM that looks like the nissan part like I have.
adjmcloon 06-08-2005, 08:14 PM Jason,
That would be a piece just like the custom deal you did for me, but with a 2 din hole instead of a single din.

Ok, thanks.
Now, here is the million dollar question. Is the hole in the same place as the TITAN factory double din radio piece for models with the single disc radio?
http://www.burtmanindustries.com/gallery/images/titan_rb_cc_wc_ext.jpg
Ignore the fact that the a/c holes aren't shown.
AND, could you possible send me you dash piece?
justayear2004 06-09-2005, 01:45 AM Jason B,
Thanks so much for the reply - that is really good news that it helps with resale. Once I get tires and wheels - I am going to work on other interior mods like this.
Thanks again
Rhonda

jupiterstorm24 07-07-2005, 10:29 AM so wait this is the exact same kit that the dealers sell for 700?
Jason B 07-07-2005, 11:24 AM so wait this is the exact same kit that the dealers sell for 700?
We do sell to dealers and they do sell out kit for upwards for $700.
NYCARMADA 07-22-2005, 09:58 AM My wood dash kit will be coming next week. Thanks for the additonal tips. It's great to see the non pro do a professional job. Your interior looks great! I hope to do as good a job as you.

Mumbo 08-02-2005, 10:06 AM Do you have any dealers that install your kits?
Jason B 08-02-2005, 10:12 AM Do you have any dealers that install your kits?
We sell to some dealers and they charge around $700 for just the dash kit alone!
Or did you mean you would want to order from us and have it installed by a dealer??? Shoot me an email from my sig.
blackmaxx 08-02-2005, 08:57 PM I like the kit you have. I have been searching all over for one like that. Where did you get it if i may ask? Thanks for the info...
Jason B 08-02-2005, 09:15 PM go here to get it:)
www.burtmanindustries.com - then click on "Search by Vehicle" after the intro loads.
Another teaser:

92TripleBlack 08-02-2005, 09:45 PM We do sell to dealers and they do sell out kit for upwards for $700.
Common practice. I used to install alarms, phones, and stereos in cars for a shop. We had accounts at BMW, Merc, and Acura. We would buy the alarm for $125, charge the dealer $500 for the alarm and install, and they would in turn charge the client $900 for the alarm.
If the kit is dealer quality, it should be a good kit. Looks that way in the photos also. ;)
bogmali 08-03-2005, 02:15 PM Jason,
I would love to get that aluminum kit but like you said, it's not up on your site yet so how can I order a set? Also, with the "teaser" what is the exterior color on that Armada? I'm contemplating on either the aluminum or the red burl, I have an 04 SE Off Road, Silver Lightning and a graphite interior (I think). So which kit you think would look better? Thanks ;)

Shoot me an email from my sig, or email me with your phone number. We can do a phone order, etc. Actually, check the site, the aluminum kit is added, but there won't be a description. $50 less than wood kit.
I'm pretty sure it's the graphite interior, the darker grey. I'm a little partial to the wood, that's my motto, "wood is good":). heh
Well, the wood is more luxury look/feel, rich...
Alum, sporty/fresh/clean/crisp.
Both are good choices. Only negative on the alum is it does fingerprint easy, sorta like a stainless gas grille. If you don't have peopel touching at all the time, or don't mind keeping it clean, then not a problem. I'm very anal myself, so it wouldn't matter for me, since I clean my own cars 2-3 times a week.
