: the BRAKES light is lit up in the console...

was getting ready to go to work today, was running about 30mph going out of our neighborhood and approaching the stop sign. I got scared when the brakes didn't respond (as it should) and heard clanking, etc and it doesn't seems right pressing on the brakes. I checked if the e-brake was depressed but it isn't (that's the only time i see that "BRAKE" light on).

I went back to the house to change cars and left the armada in the garage. can't find the link for TSB's. I have a 2006 Armada LE 2WD with about 25000miles on it. I just drove it last night with no problems.

If I take this to the dealership, would the (repair) be covered by the warranty? or would they (dealership) try not to get this done under warranty and will demand to have this paid by customer? any suggestions? thanks

25K miles you should be under warranty.

Most definitely covered!

If you have only 25,000 or so miles on it and it is less then 3 years from purchase date, it should all be covered under warranty, 3yr/36,000 is the standard.

im at houston, tx btw.
can i just take this to any nissan dealership? would they honor the warranty?
i got the mada from mossy nissan at I-10. the nearest dealership from my place is baker-jackson nissan (by 290 west). can i take the mada at baker-jackson instead? or i have no choice but to go to mossy nissan? one thing is that, i don't want to drive the mada that far (going to I-10). i can probably drive the mada by baker-jackson. do you think the warranty will cover if i have the mada picked up from my place?

is this (problem) common? like just rotors and/or brakepad problems - usual wear-and-tear? or something more serious?

You can take it to any Nissan dealership, they all should honor the warranty. As far as the towing I would call them first, but I don't think it covers towing, but do you have it with your insurnace???

okey.. update. before i go ahead and schedule for an appointment, i checked the brake fluid, rotors and pads. everything seems ok. brake fluid is just below the max line, the (front) rotors have rust on the edges (dunno if that has any effect - not as rusted as the back - back almost no rust), pads seems ok (can't really tell). I test drove it, took it in the street (inside the neighborhood), everything seems normal. tested to run 20 mph, stepped on the brakes - it worked! 40 mph, stop - worked! stepped on in abruptly, worked. it's like, it didn't have that problem this morning. BRAKE light not lit up. breaks ok. what worries me is:

1. would that happen again? don't want to lose break on the freeway running 50-60 (i actually go up to 80mph).

2. how would i 'demonstrate' that to the mechanic? is there anything 'error' message that's stored in the 'computer' so as they can trace how the vehicle was behaving previously?

help! i don't want to drive the mada with this thing at the back of my mind :(

Sounds like your Brake Controller may need to be reprogrammed. I'd demand that be done at the very least. FWIW, I have over 40k on my current OEM brake set and looked them over this last weekend and my pads and rotors still look almost new. I'm impressed with my OEM brakes.

thanks pops! you've always been a great adviser!
that link helped a lot. i hope the 'stealership' won't charge me for this (reprogrammer) and not hit me with 'change the rotors and brakes' scheme they do (just got hit with that on my c230 - went to the dealership to have the brakes checked - warning light lit - then said they'll fix that free - part of warranty, but insisted i also need to have the rotors and brake pads replaced - cost me around $700+ - car was at 27k miles - NEVER GOING BACK TO THAT MB STEALERSHIP AGAIN).

I bought 3 cars from this dealership. I had my 2 degrees set for free last time i was there, plus they gave me discounts on my oil change even if i dont have the coupon. will go with the same guy again and hope he would look at this without 'bad' intensions :)

i am going to the dealership today. i set up an appointment yesterday and for some reason, i feel like them service consultants/managers doesn't seem to have any idea on what i was trying to say to them (i talked to 2 of them, since the first guy said he doesn't know about any problem on this).

i found this TSB and wanted to share with you guys:

will update later on what happens.

went to baker-jackson nissan by 290. I setup an appointment with mossy nissan (by I-10) but thought it was too far from where I live. It took almost the whole day for them to fix it (shuttle provided to take me back home).

reprogram done, something more at the brakes they checked (replaced)
have fixed a tsb on the a/c (fan?). everything covered by warranty. have been driving the armada since then (got the mada back friday night).

now it seems the battery is acting up (in another forum). i guess when it rains, it pours :(

hopefully, it's just the battery. thanks to randy (majblue07) for suggesting baker-jackson (AVO helped me out).

just to add (another question)...
since they did the reprogram for the breaks.. would that "reset" the 2 degrees advance too? would changing the battery "reset" this (advance) as well?

Just reprograming the ABS shouldn't. If they reflashed the ECM it would. Changing the battery would not reset it either.
