: Audio System Out and Presets Erased by Heat???

I have an '04 Armada LE with the Bose audio system and about 58K miles. During last few weeks when we have had hot temperatures (i.e., 90 F +), when I leave work, the audio system is inoperable. By this I mean if the unit was off in the morning when I parked, it can't be turned on, or if it was on aux in the morning, "aux" appears on the display, but there is no sound, nor can the unit be switched to radio or turned off/on. After a few minutes of driving with either the AC on or the windows rolled down, the system kicks back in, but when it does come back on, all of the preset stations are gone, as well as the audio sound settings (bass, midrange, treble, balance, fade, and speed sensor volume level) are all back to reset (as if the battery had been disconnected). The Armada starts fine. There is no corrosion on the battery terminals, nor do I loose other "memory sets" (i.e., the sunroof switches) that normally get reset when the battery is disconnected. So the problem appears to be related to the audio system power supply cutting out when the Armada is parked during the heat of the day. It's never done this while driving, and it has never happened in winter. It may have happened once or twice during the past 2 summers, but this summer I've lost count how many times it's happened.

Any clues on what to check, or other folks had this happen? If so, what is the fix? I'm getting pretty tired of resetting everything every afternoon!

Thanks!

Welcome to CA 04 chsmith!

Sorry to hear about that, but it looks like you have already done what most of us would have. It might be time for a new aftermarket system. I don't remember this type of audio iss, but will check around to see if anything was posted.

I have found nothing on the site about loosing preset stations except when the battaery has been disconnected.

I take it at 58K you don't have an extended warranty either?

Yep, no extended warranty. I'm due for regular maintenance soon, so I'll ask the shop if they've heard anything similar happening. Other than that I think I'm resolved to constantly resetting everything during the summer months.

Have them check the AMPS on the battery. If you haven't changed it out yet, and the amps are more then 10% less then rated, then it's probably time to get a new one.
