do they level from front bumper to rear or from side to side? how many degrees or inches can they adjust?

It does neither.... It's for weight handling rather than ride comfort. It prevents the rear from squatting too much when loading it down. When you hitch up a +5,000lb trailer or load it down like shown in the pics of the linked thread below, you don't need to worry much about tires rubbing inside the wheel wells.

thanks Bob, so does it boost height? When I read the manual it says to get the armada positioned under hitch (no load), let run for a while, then you hear the air pump leveling then it shuts off. Then measure height of front bumper and make sure after loading trailer weight on hitch it doesn't go up more than 1/2". but rear does go down 1 -2 inch but rides ok, I'm surprised it goes down though as I'm under the 910lbs.

It travels quite a bit so I'd give it 2"-4" before being too concerned. Here's some info about adjusting it:
