: Am I Being Taken For A Ride? (Brake problems)

Hey all,

I am new and certainly not mechanically "smart" but I wanted some feedback...

I got my 05 LE used just this past April with 55k miles on her. Shortly after, I noticed a squealing whenever the brakes were applied but wasn't too concerned.

Forward to this past Thursday evening. I was driving her when I noticed that her BRAKE light was on. As I depressed the brake pedal, it creaked. As I tried to stop her at a red light (was only going about 20 mph) she was difficult to stop, and it was as if the ABS were employed (she kind of skidded/shook to a stop).

I found this forum as I did a google search on brake problems yesterday. I am kind of scared now after having read about the 04 and 05 problems. I hope that it's ok to start a new thread on this topic even though it has been discussed...

She's in the shop right now and according to my husband, they are replacing the front brakes and the brake booster. Am I being taken for a ride??? This is costing us 1600 (though she is getting an oil change and some fluids flushed as well plus a recall for her a/c condenser).

I'm terrified that this will happen again. Can I have some input please? By the way, she currently has 57k miles on her.

Thank you!

Probably the ABS needs to be reprogramed. This has been seen several times by some of the members on here including me.

Welcome o CA Vadersbabe!

The ABS module (BCM - I think) needs to be flashed/reprogrammed.

EDIT: ABS module, not BCM!;)

^^^ Yea, what they said. ^^^^

Welcome to the Club!!! Start all the new threads you want to. Alot of us post asking questions before we search, alot of these guys are search gurus who know where to look and what to search for more than most of us. - LOL :D

Here's a thread I remember about this issue, and according to it, you are being taken for a ride:

Thank you Pops. Just as I suspected...

When we picked her up yesterday I questioned them about the known brake problems and I was told that I have "re-engineered" brakes. To make matters worse, I didn't ask them to reset the ABS like you all suggested. So I have a real fear that this may happen again. And the icing on the cake was when I noticed a pool of transmission fluid on the driveway last night. They apparently flushed my fluids and something is not right. I am scared to drive her. I am taking her to the Nissan place first thing Monday morning to have them check that all is ok. Grrr. I'm now $1800 poorer. But I will be sure to consult with you all before I run off to the repair shop next time.:o
