Might the Dodge Truck division be sold to Nissan?

Some in the industry are saying that this could happen, and if so, could be a good thing. We're talking about the Dodge Ram 1500, Durango and Dakota here. Interesting, however, the Dodge Ram HD models may not be part of this deal should it occur. That leaves you with the obvious question: what happens to these trucks?

We already know the Next Nissan Titan will be Ram 1500-based. The Detroit News report here suggests that the next Armada might be Durango-based, but there's no mention of what might happen with the Dakota. Will the next Nissan Frontier be Dakota-based? Don't know. Also being reported, if this comes to pass, is that the next Infiniti QX56 might be based off the (not imported) Nissan Patrol.

As to the fate of HD Rams, this is another question mark. A future HD Nissan Titan will likely come from the new commercial-duty Nissan platform, which Nissan already has plans for.

I really don't see how this helps Nissan run a truck/SUV line any cheaper. It made sense when there was a Chrysler component to this, but if Nissan just buys the truck side outright, what are they gaining? I really don't want to see the Armada become the current Durango. I was not impressed at all with the Durango when I test drove it a few years ago. I hear the new Ram is a good truck, but I do worry about long term reliability with that engine/drivetrain.

it will just help save on some costs and especially gas mileage from the hemi's 8-4 shut off on the highway. supposedly the QX will be moved to Japan but who knows what will happen with that

I think if the Armada becomes a Durango, Infinity QX sales will go up. I was at the Texas State Fair a couple years ago and looked at the Aspen. Aspen was supposed to be an upscale Durango, and I was pretty disgusted with the build quality then, not to mention the design (or lack thereof) of the rear entry way. If you look at every other fullsize SUV, the rear doors are cut above the rear wheels whereas the rear door of Armada is in front of the rear wheel. Bigger door, better access. The wife is driving a 2K Intrepid and it has been a really good car, it is the only one that my power chair has actually fit into the trunk of, but build quality and component quality is depressing. The Intrepid will be our last Dodge, if Armada and Titan are to be digraced by becoming Dodge knock offs, the next truck will be a Toyota.

I JUST bought my Armada... And I am the type of person that does a TON of research and test-driving before I make a big purchase. I test drove a 2008 Durango that was priced at 18990 LOADED! I just didn't like the build, power, or comfort/ride. I REALLY hope that Nissan buying the line improves the line, and I hope that buying the line doesnt hurt Nissan. We shall see.

Some how I just can't see it, nor does it make much sense. Full size SUV and trucks sales are on the decline, why would Nissan buy yet an other truckline??
They already have a very cost efficient production facility (runnig under capacity) in the southern U.S. does it make sense to purchase yet several more facilities - Joint venture/production makes sense double your capacity. Unless Nissan is going to continue selling Dodge branded Trucks and SUVs, but some how I can't se that either. Where would you get your Dodge truck serviced?? At the Nissa dealer?? Like I said I just can't see that.
