: Nissan Phasing Out Full Size SUV's
SoCal09Armada 12-12-2008, 10:37 AM Report: Nissan phasing out production of Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs
Nissan is reportedly phasing out production of a number of its large vehicles at its Mississippi plant, including the Nissan Quest people mover, Nissan Armada SUV and the Armada-based Infiniti QX56. Production in the Mississippi plant will instead focus on a new large vehicle inspired by the NV2500 Concept unveiled just last month.
While Nissan is yet to confirm the demise of its fullsize SUVs, vehicles like the Armada and the Infiniti QX56 have all performed poorly in terms of sales this year, making it more and more likely that they will be dropped soon – plus the fact that strict CAFE regulations are just around the corner. Currently, the Nissan Armada is selling around half the units it did compared to last year, while the Infiniti QX56's sales are down by over a third for the year to date, reports MotorTrend.
Nevertheless, the news could just mean that Nissan will be shifting production of these models to other plants, and that the NV2500 will be joining this lineup. When Nissan unveiled the NV2500 last month, it was described as a preview of the company's entry into the North American Commercial Vehicle (CV) market.
Nissan's entrance into the commercial vehicle market may see the Japanese company sacrifice production of its poorly performing consumer SUVs and minivans, however there is still no official word from Nissan regarding this yet.

If true I applaud Nissan for it's forward thinking. I've been a Nissan owner for over 20 years and love my Armada and would hate to see it go. But at the same time you have to appreciate a company the continually assesses their products and when something doesn't seem to be working any more is willing to do something about it.
Here's the NV2500:

Dustoff-00 12-12-2008, 03:55 PM Nice truck, endless potential or limited uses.
What else can you make out of it??
BlakSpyda 12-12-2008, 04:11 PM Mod it like a conversion van. Waterbed, disco lights, stripper pole, etc.! Oh the possibilities!
cpaul 12-12-2008, 05:38 PM To Me, It looks like a nightmare to fit, or do body adjustments.
Da Mayor 12-12-2008, 06:38 PM well the times have changed and people aren't looking for SUV's.... at least Nissan isn't going bankrupt... they've been there , done that and just movign on to the next.
Stryker 12-12-2008, 09:25 PM Fact of the matter is that many people are still going to want their 4WD SUVs - mabey not as large as they are now but there will always be somewhat of a demand for them - I for one will be one of those people - lets not forget the ageless Pickup - will always be an option if need be
armadadd 12-13-2008, 12:42 AM If there was a larger suv more seating than the Armada...I will defenetely look into it...smalller than grab a murano..
Matrix 12-13-2008, 03:11 AM Looks like a lunch wagon. I guess the Armada will become a classic one day?

Jaggernaut 12-14-2008, 12:57 AM oh my.... the armada turns into a workshop on wheels...??i'll still go for my dependable and everyday ride 'mada...
norcal05SE 12-14-2008, 11:08 AM if they cease production, i might have to get an '09 new. would hate to wait until buying a new one isnt an option!
ch47d99 12-14-2008, 12:03 PM This is unfortunate. I know the article says that the Armada is not officially dead yet, but it certainly does not look good. With the trouble at the big 3, I think Nissan could definitely compete in the large SUV market. It is shrinking, but it will not disappear. They need to match production with demand. I think that innovation such as CNG or other alternative fuels could be used to make the Armada competitive. I also think Nissan could help by actually advertising the vehicle. Toyota has actually increased Sequioa sales a few months this year over last and guess what...they actually advertise the vehicle. I have been very happy with my Armada even after the brake issue I had. I still love the vehicle. If it does get the axe, I hope Nissan will continue to ensure the parts are available.
Dustoff-00 12-14-2008, 03:01 PM Does anyone know why Nissan really never advertised the Armada? I the 5 years or so this truck has been out, I have seen maybe a hand full of commercials about the Armada.

I bought my Armada primarily for towing, secondarily for people and stuff hauling. It fits the bill quite well and is a pleasure to drive. The only serious negative is the gas mileage, but I have a fairly efficient DD, so the Armada only sucks gas when used for the above.
The NV2500 looks like a neat commercial vehicle, but it has, what, 3 seats, and I don't see a spot for a hitch. Nor does there look to be room for the proverbial 4x8 sheet of plywood. So, it's pretty much useless to me.
I suppose the good news is that my Armada has only about 29,000 miles on it in 5 years, so it should be good for 10-15 more years. I only hope I last that long.

from 04 - early 07 there were many commercials. Once fuel got rediculous, you only saw the Armada in the background of their line-up in commercials and they stopped marketing them all together.
