If you are currently running XP you can't upgrade to Windows 9; you will have to do a clean install.
Vista users can do a upgrade to 9.

Ive been tempted to try this.

Here is a guide to put it on your system as a 2nd OS.
Works for XP or Vista.

See here (http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dual-boot-windows-7-with-xp-or-vista)

Why is it so good?!?!? Give us some feedback!

Ok, for example. This is why I like it.

I was running Vista build : Home Premium SP1, I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate build: BETA TEST. The upgrade took a estimated time of no more than 10 no less than 6 minutes. Once it was installed, it updated my drivers to make sure everything was going to be compatible. Everything was. No issues there. I really liked off the bat the load time from boot (after a reboot). Took a couple seconds instead of 25 to 35 seconds for old Vista. (XP used to take a couple seconds too; this is REALLY GOOD!). So I download Windows Live Essentials; its a suite of fun stuff like, the new messenger and dvd maker and photo imaging software. It comes with Media center because its the "Ultimate" build. I start playing around with the messenger and the dvd maker. It rocks, a lot more stable than the older versions. The DVD maker actually burns images straight from an .ISO to a DVD-r or -RW or +R. Old vista you had to convert and all that junk, it would take forever. Another thing the Aero 3D graphic view is awesome! Not only does it incorporate the old cool looking 3D slideshow of the windows which are open, but now you get to preview your tabs on your taskbar. For example if you have a multiple tabs within IE on your taskbar you simply mouse over them and you see that it previews the window in a 3D/selfish way. What I mean is, that it makes everything else in the background disappear so that you can appreciate that ONE window. I really like that feature.

Some other cool new toys: IE 8, Windows Super powershell (for you linux users out there or programers or those of you who like using the command line interface), InPrivate browsing (it clears your cache at the end of every surfing session), a cool way of maximizing your windows (drag to top of screen and let go) its really cool. Oh and it runs a lot smoother than Vista. Its smooth, fast and PURRRRDDYYY!

Oh cant forget about Libraries, in Windows 7 you no longer have the plain old My Documents now you have a much easier way of organizing your files, data, pics and videos. Its called Windows Libraries. You can create new libraries which will alphabetize and structure your folders and files in different categories and such. Its really cool. Plus if you have multiple workstations within your home/office network. You can share resources without actually transferring files. Windows 7 uses a cache system for sharing resources so that you dont clog your bandwidth pipes and create a bottleneck or so that Computer A doesnt become cluttered with the same folders that Computer B has. Its really cool.

My review: Give it a TRY! REMEMBER its still in BETA! So the experience may differ for each and everyone of you.

I have over 12 years experience with Windows; so I am pretty patient with Windows issues lol.

I was brave enought to load this on my main laptop which is also my desktop and I have no regrets, yet.

My system requirements:
Centrino Duo Core 3.06GHz L2 Cache
4GB Corsair DDR-2 RAM
512MB x 2 running in SLI GeForce 8600 GTX
1TB Seagate HDD

I exceed well over the minimum requirements to run Windows 7 or Vista so that could have a lot to do with my experience. Just try it though.

Hey Eric, I'm still liking FireFox as at my initial impressions in that thread you linked above. That thread encouraged me to take the plunge, I now have it on every computer I touch at home and work. Get off the fence, give it a try :)

The only problem I see with it -- it will stop working on 1 Aug 09. And you cant upgrade the Beta version to the finished copy. Other than that,,,,no issues.

i agree. Da Fox is the way forward. The add ons make browsing so much easier, and there is always an add on to make a repetitive task less painful.

"Save As" from the clipboard is cool, one click downloading of embeded videos is also super handy. The icon toolbar is the best IMO

Might have to give the windows 7 a try. Have a vaio laptop with vista so that could be my guinea pig

Two words, "Virtual Machine" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine

Lol, yeah you could run Windows 7 on a virtual machine, yet you would have to have a pretty beefy system in order to really take advantage of the features. VM's are resource hogs that plus Windows 7 being a resource hog.... = YOU BETTER COME PREPARED.
