Hey there.
I have an 05 QX56 which has the rear air suspension. Now when I park it in the evening, I have about 5" clearance between the fender and tire. Then in the morning, It is about 4 1/2 inches. When I turn on the engine, and drive around for a bit it goes back up to 5 inches. Took it in for service and the dealer says everything works fine. With the car cooling down, the height will get lower is what they said. If the compressor is pumping it back up then everything is working fine. I read the other thread about rear suspension leak. My question is is the dealer correct or do I have a leak?
Can someone with a rear air suspension measure their rear height after they turn the truck off and then measure it again in the morning before starting the car and let me know if they are different and by how much?

Thanks

Here's a thread on our recently discovered suspension leaks: http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12815&page=6

I think it is normal for the rear to lower a little overnight. As the air in the system cools, it contracts and the rear will settle down. The compressor runs only when the key is on.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have been playing in the Virginia snow and did not get back to the computer until today. I am going to meet with the infiniti rep about this issue and see what he says. If the rep says this is normal then I don't think I will pursue it any further. But the rep won't be at the dealership until April or May. Not that big a deal since the truck functions just fine. I will let you know what they say.

You have to remember that the pressure in the shocks will drop as much as 5psi depending on temp changes.

If your height is only changing .5 of an inch I wouldn't worry, especially if the pump isn't cycling on and off.

EagerCrow,
Thanks for the reply. When the temp is below 30F, the compressor comes on just about every time I turn the engine on. When the temp is warmer, I don't notice it coming on as much but I do hear it sometimes.

Jaggernaut,
Thanks for the information. I will take a look at the article later when I have more time.

I just dropped mine off at the shop this morning. This past weekend, I found my Front Diff leaking gear oil which warranted the service appointment. I asked them to look into the Shocks' hose attachments to see if they're covered under extended warranty because those air shocks are supposed to be a non-serviceable item (meaning they don't need to be changed out every so many miles like regular shocks are).

Another bummer is that I walked out to find a nice long crack in my windshield this morning. There was nothing there when I parked it in the garage last night and the windshield has not had any chips. Wifey starts blaming it on the PC Lift first thing saying "that's not normal to lift a car like that" so I said "you're right, that's why it's put on a truck built on a truck frame instead of a car but thank you for your non-mechanical expertise anyway". What a morning.
