: flashing blinking airbag warning light
llajumpvid 11-04-2004, 08:56 PM Since some of you guys here are new owners I thought I'd save you a trip to the dealer once you start modifing your armada's. I'm not sure what set's it off (other than pulling things apart) but at some point you will likely end up with a flashing airbag sensor light. Here is how to reset it yourself.
1. Turn the key from off to on.
2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.
3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)
4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.
5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.
6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.
llajumpvid,
You made my day. Thanks for posting this.
I've been pissed off since this morning when I pulled off the cluster lid to get to the radio. I just pulled it off, then pushed it right back on.
Then the airbag light started to flash when I started the car up.
I followed exactly what you wrote and the light stopped flashing!
I was dreading all day going to the dealer to get it fixed.
Thanks!
poison_blood 03-09-2005, 01:54 PM thanks for the 411 :urthebest I was getting crazy because the sensor blink. but I have a new monitor and some new bass thanks again
Thanks again llajumpvid,
I pulled my driver seat out today to run some wiring and the airbag light started blinking again. But this time, no worries.
I knew what to do.
bootyologist24 05-05-2005, 02:50 AM Ok, I tried this and it didnt work for me. I'm sure it was something I am doing wrong. Now when you say turn the key on, do I have to turn the ignition all the way on or just enough to turn on all the warning lights. Any small details I have to look out for. Man I better check to make sure it was actually plugged back in after the shop got done putting in my DVD. Where can i find out to see if in fact it was plugged back together?
Thanks
llajumpvid 05-05-2005, 08:28 AM Should just turn it to on, dont start it. If the passenger airbag light is on when no one is sitting in the seat then you should be hooked up, unless they took something from under the seat apart.
300zxgame 05-18-2005, 12:44 AM hey, i just recently bought a 93 300ZX and i know this is a armada forum, but my airbag light was flashing and i brought it to the dealer first, and they quoted me 1200$ for a new airbag controller. needless to say i did not let them repair it, and now that i have the car back, the light is flashing slower in that "diagnostic mode" you were talking about, so i dont know where to start this method you have from. id like to try it, please let me know, thanks
llajumpvid 05-18-2005, 07:49 AM Try doing a search on freshalloy.com that is a good all nissan forum. Someone might be able to help you there. You might try and see if there is a chilton book at the local auto parts store and see if they have a section on the airbags, you might be able to decipher the code that is blinking.
ashkanm 05-19-2005, 06:12 AM thanks you guys i did what you guys said (turning the switch to on and off)and it worked ,it saved me time and money
bootyologist24 05-20-2005, 04:57 AM :excellent , I tried again after a couple weeks and it work. Much appreciated llajumpvid :udaman:
fairbanksf 06-06-2005, 01:46 PM On a 1993 300zx you need to do the old door trick. It however doesn't work on 1994-96's apparently.
http://www.300zxclub.com/showthread.php?t=53290&highlight=airbag
1) Open the driver's side door.
2) Put the key in the ignition and turn to ON (but don't start the vehicle)
3) Within 7 seconds of turning the key to ON, push the driver's side door switch button at least 5 times.
4) The Air Bag light should go solid...give it at least 7 seconds, and it should begin to blink a 3 second, 2 second on/off pattern.
5) Turn ignition to OFF and remove key.
6) Start vehicle, and wait for the Air Bag light to turn off to verify that it worked.
weezr17 06-06-2005, 04:11 PM LONNIE!
HEy, thanks for the TIP.... :urock:
One question.....If the light is on and no one is sitting in the passenger seat then I'm golden? Is there a sensor or something?
So the light should NOT be on when someone is sitting in the passenger seat....correct?
scr38 06-06-2005, 04:28 PM Three questions!
The answer is yes to all them.
weezr17 06-06-2005, 09:11 PM OH...so you're NOT only a moderator....you're a DAMN COMEDIAN!
:teeth:
Thanks. ;)
Paisan 06-14-2005, 05:06 AM Thanks guys, worked like a charm for me.

Heat03 07-05-2005, 09:09 PM wow, wish I knew this a week ago..
After I had my bluetooth kit installed, I got the light...
ended up having to leave the truck at the dealer for them to order a new "sensor" 2 day process. lol
hated.
that light was very annoying to say the least. bad enough gotta look at the seatbelt light all day...
gonna try to disconnect that one myself.... should be a plug under the driver seat to control that... then again, don't want to set off another light??
anyone got any ideas, other than wearing the belt???
llajumpvid 07-05-2005, 09:35 PM Sounds like your dealer is looking for ways to charge Nissan for warranty work. I bet they had the passenger airbag light unhooked and that is what set off the dash light.
If you disconnect a sensor I suspect you'll still get a flashing airbag light...you probably better off just to put a piece of tape over the light if it bothers that much.
Heat03 07-16-2005, 05:25 PM llajump,
you are the man. Thank you kindly.
I had my dvd installed today, and this is the second time that that light was blinking and driving me batty, lol.
Last time it was a trip to the dealer, and sensor had to be ordered, blah, blah , blah, a 3 day ordeal.
Just one question: how the hec did ya figure that one out?? Hopefully my airbag is still working lol.
One more question: How do ya turn of the seatbelt guy ?? Any ideas??
llajumpvid 07-16-2005, 07:04 PM I have the factory service manual and looked it up in there. For the seat belt guy....buckleup....sorry I know thats not the answer you wanted but there isn't an option to shut it off. Put a piece of electric tape over it from behind the dash maybe. If you diconnect the wire or bulb I suspect you'll activate the warning light.
Heat03 07-16-2005, 09:48 PM guess your're right.. I'll just wear the belt, end of problem :)
thanks.
NISMO 07-18-2005, 01:24 AM thanks for the info. it hapenned to me today and was planning to bring it to the dealer tomorrow it was really annoying... then when i read this post i went to my truck and tried it... it worked!!! THANKS A LOT!!! :D
dhmitchell 07-21-2005, 12:52 PM This worked on my 01 Pathfinder. Thank you thank you thank you!
greengoddess 07-28-2005, 11:56 AM My dealer told me that the Airbag warning light comes on when the keys are left in the ingnition when you unplug or add any audio or video devices (radio, DVD player, Satellite radio, etc.).
It sounded a little fishy to me, but it's happened twice. I paid $75 to reset the computer the first time because we had an outside source put the DVD player in. The 2nd time it happened was when they replaced my radio (treble was fading in and out) so they didn't charge me.
Had I seen this before I would have never paid that stupid $75 charge!!!
mada13 09-25-2005, 03:01 PM thanks man it worked for me :)
ΛЯMΛDΛƒIED_ΠDΠ 10-11-2005, 01:17 PM Thanks for the info :)
My light started blinking out of the blue this morning. I did not recently install any hardware or modify anything. Oh well...hopefully my airbags will still work when they're supposed to
Cool_armada 10-11-2005, 04:52 PM I think you have been remove the indcater for the airbag front passenger when you do that you have to reset it ....
Hi every one,
I know this is an old subject to every one, but fir me, it is new!
I faced this issue about 2 weeks ago and was planning to visit the dealer and did not!!
Thank you for your help, highly appreciated.
I juts have one concern please. This falshing is not something serious, right? i mean airbags will still function as it should be after fixing this falshing this way, right?
Regards,
llajumpvid 12-13-2005, 07:36 AM if you didn't do anything to make it start flashing (ie take something apart) or it comes back on after resetting it then you should have it checked.

Thank you llajumpvid for your feedback, it worked :)
I hope it will not flash again after resetting it, just to avoide going to the dealer.
ggeorgie, i apprecaite your feedback, i hope it will not flash again :)
armada741 12-24-2005, 04:54 PM :) i tried the diagnostic and it worked i thought i had to go to the dealer. it started going on after my remote starter install. THANK U :udaman:
orijonl 02-18-2006, 12:07 PM I have had the flashing light 4 times since I added an lcd monitor and PIE source amplifier back in June of 05. I've taken it to the dealer on each occurrence (it's always been fixed under warranty). They have replaced sensors and even a "computer" once, but the light always comes back on after about a week or so. I haven't changed anything since the initial install, but I've always wondered if I had done something that would cause this. I'm a little worried about just resetting the light, because I want to be sure that the airbags actually work, besides if just comes back on after a week or so, this is really not a solution.
Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances?
EagerCrow 02-18-2006, 03:53 PM I know if you remove the power connector from the stock HU it will set off the airbag light.
FL_Crushin 02-18-2006, 05:58 PM Mine was blinking too. But turns out that it was the Seatbelt Assembly that was the problem. Here's what they replaced

Did you get the error codes from the paperwork done by Nissan dealer or did you have to ask the mechanic for them?
I called the service office today and was told that they are replacing a "seatbelt harness". I'll have to check their info to see if it matches up with the TSB, but I hate to think that they have had my vehicle in the shop as many times and as long as they've had it, and replaced just about every component that has anything to do with the airbags without checking for a TSB first.

They told me what the problem was after about a couple hours on the initial visit. I had other things being done as well. They told me they had to order a seatbelt assembly, then they would call me back when it came in.
I don't know if any of that stuff was error codes (maybe the P1182), the other stuff is just part numbers for the stuff that was ordered.

Thanks a lot for the tip! :machinegu
Master Shake 03-09-2006, 05:16 PM Just wanted to say Thanks! I had the same blinking problem when Circuit City installed my Sirius S50 unit. Your fix worked and saved me a trip to the dealer.
Cheers!
jyruiz 03-13-2006, 02:46 PM The fix rocks, had to do it this past weekend when I installed my DVD stuff. Thanks a lot llajumpvid.
arm58 03-18-2006, 06:18 AM any idea why it would do this with NO changes to anything?
scr38 03-18-2006, 08:41 AM As posted above, this can happen when there is a seatbelt problem. If the light keeps coming on have the dealer check for a problem.

:smart: I will try this today. I have been watching this for weeks now. I get in a small fender bender. While they were pulling and prying on the bumper, the light started to blink and that's all she wrote. I took it in today (3 weeks later) after waiting for a "part". Unfortunately, when they ran the diagnostic on it, it needs 3 more parts. If this works, I will laugh very hard. They will not have a clue how I fixed it. Thanks

I doubt it will work as it sounds like you have a legit warning light. Or if it does that it will stay off for very long.
StiffOneEye 04-01-2006, 06:57 PM Or you can just disconnect the positive battery lead for 5 seconds and reconnect.
llajumpvid 04-01-2006, 08:13 PM Or you can just disconnect the positive battery lead for 5 seconds and reconnect.
I'm not positive that will work. I believe I've had the cable disconnected before and it still came back. Plus you'll have to reset all your radio stations:).
jyruiz 04-01-2006, 11:15 PM Or you can just disconnect the positive battery lead for 5 seconds and reconnect.
That won't work, I tried it, left the battery unhooked for 3 hours and nothing.
Mrhavasu 04-27-2006, 01:49 AM It worked for me! had to do it twice as I did not turn the key oll the way back the first time.
peach 06-09-2006, 12:57 AM I had my DVD system installed today and of course when I drove out of the parking lot my light was flashing. Turned right around and went back to the shop where the DVD was installed and they said it was from the battery being disconnected (for safety reasons) when they installed the DVD. They had a $13,000 piece of electronic equipment that they quickly typed in my vehicle info and plugged into a port under the dash, turned on the car, then turned it off and bingo, the light was gone. I thought oh great, now every two years (in AZ heat) I have to change my battery I will have to go to the dealer to have it done instead of doing it myself. Now I know what to do - thanks a lot for the info llajumpvid!!
Bob Cross 06-19-2006, 02:29 PM After installing the Parrot handsfree unit on my new Armada (with the harness that I also read about in this forum), my airbag sensor warning light started flashing.
My wife went to the dealer and was quoted $102 to turn the light off. While she was waiting to have it fixed, I did a search and found this thread. I called her on the cell phone and read the directions to her and the sensor warning light was off. Thanks guys.
BTW, the Parrot handsfree with the custom harness was a pretty easy install. If anybody is interested, I could tell you how I installed it. Also, I bought the Prodigy brake controller which I heard about on this forum and it works great.
Gratefully,
Bob

Glad you found help here!
vindicator 06-24-2006, 10:55 PM I tried all the suggestions. Thanks but no luck getting that air bag out. Dealer replaced something that regulates seat belt tension. Now the diagnostics says it needs an air bag system control module. On order from Ca. Also, dealer says Nissan won t ship overnight and if they are out of stock Nissan wont do a search at other locations. I think the svc manager and tech are very competent. They say they can t check the entire system when a problem shows up or they run the risk of air bags inflating, so its one part at a time. I will try to get a print out of codes and parts for you all.( LE, 06, 4,000 miles, no mods or excuses for this happening. thanks
loafer650 07-10-2006, 12:35 PM Omg..i just installed my Dvd Navi system and noticed it blinking as well..was going to call up my service specialist...but not anymore. thanks a million.....this forum is great..now if i can only get some advice as how to save on gas milage..lolz.

vindicator 07-13-2006, 03:33 PM suggestions?? spent two hours yesterday and one plus today calleing Nissan customer service. 800 647 7261. Recorder message says they are busy with other customers and please hold. Like I don t have a life.
Five weeks plus my 06 mada le has no air bag system working. Dealer installed a part for seat best tension and then said it needs a module. Well severl parts were ordered it seems and will be in fri, next week, wed etc etc until now the dealer computer says the warehouse is out of stock of this part but may have it in by end of month. Seems the dealer is ok, but thought i would try nissan cust svc and see if they can help by locating a part and overnighting it in but can t reach them cause i am not going to spend several more hours on phone. Also, it doesn t seem they have a web site where i could e mail them the problem.
Any help is appreciated. thank you
disgusted nissan owner
llajumpvid 07-13-2006, 07:34 PM Ask the dealer to give you the local nissan reps number. You'll get there faster working through him vs. someone answering the phone at Nissan HQ.
abolish 07-20-2006, 05:45 PM Well this week I took in the armada for the squeeky seat TSB what a mission just to put in a seat. They supposedly had to call a special tech because of the airbags on the seat or what not. Well I get the truck back and it has the airbag light flashing. At this point its the end of the day and I say the hell with it and I take it home. So I'm hoping this will work for me i'm going to try it today. Now out of curiousity lets say I leave it flashing, if the bags need to be deployed in an accident will they deploy or not?
Chuck
llajumpvid 07-20-2006, 10:47 PM I'm sure if it is just the typical light it'll be fine. I think it triggers the warning light if it can't communicate with all of the sensors and stores the warning. If it resets and doesn't come back you are good. If it comes back or won't reset something is wrong in the system.
06armadaSE4x2 09-13-2006, 04:44 PM you da man. Saved me a trip to the dealer too.
vegas_speedster 09-30-2006, 02:23 PM Thanks Dude!
brysig228 12-16-2006, 10:26 PM did this after it started blinking and sure enough it works.. no more airbag blinking. thanks for saving me a trip to the dealer..
squadoneQX 01-03-2007, 11:25 PM worked perfectly, thanks for your help and your easy instructions.
malibu 02-08-2007, 07:46 PM I reset my light several times. It kept coming back on (seemed to be when somebody was sitting in the passenger seat). So hauled it to the dealer, Sterling McCall Nissan in Houston.
Looks like the code was a 32284 Code for front right seat belt tensioner. So they replaced the front seat belt tongue assembly under warranty. Now everything seems fine.
TopCat 02-15-2007, 02:19 PM Tried the reset procedures without success. So I decided to take it to the dealership for repair. It's just a shame how much time you can loose by trying to get your mada repaired. First, You take it in for them to decide what is wrong. Second, they put some parts on order to fix the problem and tell you to bring it back later. Third, drop it off again at the dealership. Fourth, They call me at work to let me know they ordered the wrong parts. At least the finally heard the rattle I had been complaining about and ordered some door part to repair that. (I hope they're the right ones). As of now I'm waiting for the right parts and the other stuff to come in and I'll try again. Wish me luck and patience.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.
Thanks for the info, I did this procedure before after a stereo upgrade and it worked perfect. The light came on again the other day for no reason and I tried this again but once I got into diagnostic mode I could not get out. Now whenever I start the truck the light flashes 1 long time followed by 12 quick flashes and then repeats. Any clue what this is? The only thing I could think of that may have triggered this is I opened the back door panel where the speaker is to see if my cone was damaged. Not much, maybe about 3-4 inches at the bottom just enough to see the speaker. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Montag 06-09-2007, 09:36 PM Man, you deserve some sort of award or something. I just read this post two days ago and what do you know, might airbag warning light came on today. I knew how to fix it! What are the odds of that happening?
Thanks!

Thanks you guys..why is this happening?
Anytime the truck is started with the Airbag Warning Light disconnected, the system detects the missing Warning Light as a problem. Once a problem is detected in the SRS, the warning stays until it's manually cleared. ;)

Iotaman 10-21-2007, 12:33 PM the reset trick worked but not 4 long light popped on again...is there anything i can check to prevent it from triggering..truck has had no accident or nothing.. just pooped on 1 day driving down the road
Iotaman 10-21-2007, 12:35 PM also if its a def controller that i read in here will cost 1200 what is nissans stance...its a part that has no wear and tear..or use unless in an accident which means it was defective from the factory..so even though the warranty is up its still nissans issue right?
CA Bimmer 11-10-2007, 10:12 PM Smoken. Worked for me.
earldjjones 11-22-2007, 07:48 PM I haven't done any work to my truck lately (it's been a month since I changed to chrome hid halos). This morning I noticed my airbag light blinking. I tried the reset and it has stopped the blinking, but I really wonder if something is wrong. If there is something wrong I assume it will start blinking again and I'll take it to the shop. Thanks for the tip, CA is still the best club on the web!
P.S. I gotta post some new pics of the beast with the chrome hid halos! Anybody looking for the black halos (no hids)?

Too bad you already bought the chrome halos, I have two sets of chromes ones and would have traded one set for your black set.

BlakSpyda 07-15-2008, 11:10 AM Welcome to CA mlheiberger!
Qaher 07-15-2008, 02:47 PM My air bag has been on for more than a month after stero installation. i have cipher and it could not clear the code coz it does not exist. can any one help me? i heard it may be the passanger seal belt harness causing it but i don't know how to find out.
scr38 07-15-2008, 04:32 PM Have you tried the procedure in post 1 of this thread?
dukeyman 07-16-2008, 02:25 PM You are the man! It worked like a charm! Dealer told me $95 bucks to put it on the computer... Forgetaboutit!
armadadd 07-16-2008, 08:55 PM Mines being coming on a few time everytimes I reset it. Any advise??
mlheiberger 07-17-2008, 06:07 PM The blinking started back the next day after the proccedure worked. I'll have to take it back to the dealership..it's still under repair warranty.:o
Fireduck752 07-28-2008, 01:45 AM FYI. The first time my air bag light started blinking was when the dvd player was installed. I followed the steps and it worked like a charm. Then it seemed every 6 months afterwards the blinking would come back. Again I would reset it. One day it started blinking and had enough, so I took it to the dealer (under warranty). The dealer fixed it and said it was a bad harness under the passenger seat. They replaced it. Six months later the blinking came back. I took it back to the dealer and this time it was a bad harness under the drivers seat. Again they replaced it. I have not had the problem since. Don't know if this a common problem on the mada? My posting is if under warranty take the vehicle in its covered. I know its a pain in the a-- to take the vehicle to the dealer. My worry is in the event I have an accident I don't want to take any chances not having the air bags deploy. What if there is an underlying problem being masked by reseting the air bag system? Just my opinion but I have kiddos to think about. My only problem now is my drivers seat makes noise when making turns go figure.
yameen1 10-20-2008, 07:29 PM Is there a concern that this technique only fixes the blinking light, but that there may actually be a problem (wiring, etc...) that might need to be fixed? This fixed my problem for a couple months, but now the blinking light is back. I don't want to fix the light, only to find out too late that the airbag didn't deploy because of a real problem. Thanks.
Yes, that is a concern. This thread is to help those of us who have knowingly accidentally tripped the airbag light ourselves while modifying, not to reset it if it goes off on it's own. If you can get a code from having Autozone or someone read the codes, you might be able to narrow it down but if it's going off on it's own and you're not getting a code to read, I'd definitely have it checked out.
hudiyo 10-21-2008, 09:56 AM its the same problem i had b4. this the second time they replace it. and i got pissed off in the second time because i leave my mada for 2 days in the dealer, they said 1 part is missing. right now its fine but i dont know someday it gonna come back.... problem is the warranty expires...

BlakSpyda 10-21-2008, 10:10 AM its the same problem i had b4. this the second time they replace it. and i got pissed off in the second time because i leave my mada for 2 days in the dealer, they said 1 part is missing. right now its fine but i dont know someday it gonna come back.... problem is the warranty expires...
With that 1 part missing, your problem is not resolved and still under the warranty repair they started.
hudiyo 10-21-2008, 10:24 AM yess that is why i was wondering why they took 2 days to repair. the first day they said 1 part is missing so they ordered it so the second day, morning around 10-11am i got my mada. they said about harness. some wire below the seat. and this is the second time. like fireduck say maybe next year it will be back and they will say again to me that its a harness issue.. well as long as they fix it but problem is if the warranty expires. its another expense.. i hope nissan fix this issue..
earldjjones 10-22-2008, 12:03 PM My airbag light had the blinking thing going on about 6mths ago. Reset it a couple of times and then took it in to the dealership. 1st fix, seatbelt recepticle on the drivers side. Blinking again, back to the dealer. 2nd fix was harness under the seat. Blink returns, final fix, replace airbag control module 800.00 plus, covered under warranty-no more blinking since then seems like the final fix did the tric. I was told the dealerships have to replace the other stuff first even though they have had problems with the airbag control midules. My brother has a 04 mada and went throught the same thing.
hudiyo 10-24-2008, 08:49 AM i hope this fix my problem because my warrranty expire early next year. question, how much do you guys here pay for extend warranty? can you give me some idea? there are different level of warranty in nissan.
350xfire 10-31-2008, 02:24 PM This is great. You just saved me $95... Of course, the dealership did not acknowledge you can do this at home. The rep said this is "a proprietary system"... BASTARDS!!!
armadadd 10-31-2008, 08:02 PM ohh this means I'm azz out...my warranty expired and this light will not go off...
350xfire 11-01-2008, 11:48 AM ohh this means I'm azz out...my warranty expired and this light will not go off...
If you are close to the time and mileage when the warranty expired sometimes Nissan will help out with the cost.
crash4444 11-01-2008, 03:48 PM My light started blinking, but I also had an appointment at the dealer for another issue, so I let them handle it. They told me it was due to sensor in the seat belt, that it was not retracting properly. So if you are having issues this might be where you need to check.
smokeonmada 11-08-2008, 11:52 AM I did it about 5 days ago and it worked great. I have been trying since yesterday and it jus get stuck in diagnostic mode i think (airbag light blinks slow 2 times then fast again like before). I cant get it wut can it be? ALso it turned on right after i took a turn. Why did it come on after a few days agian? THANXZ
Thomaste3 11-09-2008, 10:22 AM Thanks for the post it worked for me!!
armadadd 11-09-2008, 10:34 PM I'm wondering how many arms and legs will they brake me if I need it to get this fix..anyone got an idea?? This flashing is really getting too annoyed..
nyc2005armada 11-10-2008, 01:34 PM Armadadd, the light is your friend. LOL... I have learned to live with it. I am so tired of resetting this thing.
drop the hammer 11-11-2008, 03:01 AM Thank you so much, had seats out to replace one of the heaters, plus modded to get better tilt, airbag light freaked me out, as well the sensor for the passenger air bag on/off quit working (i was sitting in the seat after i hooked the passenger seat back up and cycled the key)....reconnected battery and did your fix....alll good - stop watch helps. Air bag sensor also now works (i disconnected batt again to do other stuff, so that may have done the sensor).
PS been jsut reading on here since i bought my Armada in 2004...great site guys, just thought i should start giving feedback since 121,000 Km's on the Armada and she's starting to require so fixes.
armadadd 11-11-2008, 09:56 AM Boy I thought I was the only one with this issue...I will put a black tape over it...
BlakSpyda 11-11-2008, 10:32 AM Welcome to CA drop the hammer!
Joker43man 12-28-2008, 11:10 AM Since some of you guys here are new owners I thought I'd save you a trip to the dealer once you start modifing your armada's.
I tried this and it didn't work. I do get the slower flashing light for a couple of seconds but then it speeds back up. I also have an 2008 does that make a difference. Thanks for your help.
mnelson 01-07-2009, 11:45 AM I too have had this problem. It has been in the shop 5 times and each time they have replaced wire harnesses, seat belts, control modules, or some variety of those to no avail. I have done the key switching and tapping my heels, which does work for about 400-500 miles, then the flashing returns. Its in the shop again and this time a tech from Nissan in Franklin TN is visiting. We'll see if he can get her done. Fortunately all my trips to the shop are under warranty and they have free loaner cars. So all I am out of is time for my troubles.
Nissan Corporate has contacted me as well and is supposed to have a "remediator" contact me this week to discuss my options. That should be interesting.
BlakSpyda 01-07-2009, 03:01 PM Welcome to CA mnelson!
Maybe they will do the Lemon Law buy-back since it has been in 5 times!
Qaher 01-08-2009, 09:45 AM i have the same issue but never bother to take it to the dealer coz i am waiting to find an answer here. Welcome to CA mnelson and i am waiting for your reply with the good news.

mnelson...use the lemon law if you can't get any satisfaction. If you have it in the shop three times for the same issue and it still isn't fix it can fall under this...unless you absolutley love your vehicle and like wasting time at the dealship.
Guys this is apparently an issue with Armadas...call 1-800-NISSAN1 and put in a complaint...it is a manufacture defect with the SRS sensor (unless you did mods that would void some warranty)...customers should not be help liable!
Joker43man 01-26-2009, 11:31 PM I did the rest sequence I read on your post. The light did start flashing in a different manner but did not stop blinking. Nissan is telling me that it's because I have a aftermarket DVD head rest. They told me that I need to remove them so that they can do a complete diagnostic scan. I have never heard of this do you have any in put. Please email me direct joker43man@aol.com

smokeonmada 01-29-2009, 02:16 PM My light resets fine but then starts blinking again within a month. I have reset it 3 or 4 times now, yet again it started blinking in about 3 weeks. What could be wrong?

Thanks for the info GREAT SITE!!!!!!
I'll be taking it to the dealership as it is the wifes car and we(family) do mostly drive it over the truck...
SoCal09Armada 02-24-2009, 11:58 AM Dealer said mine was not covered under warranty since I had installed my DVD unit myself :(
ronin1215 03-09-2009, 08:28 PM Thanks for the great information. This is a great site.
Alright guys... I, too, had the infamous 'flashing air bag light'. NO recent installs, mods, or issues. Took it to the stealership this morning. Service guy said,
"I'll have to pull the codes and they could run anywhere from $125 to $500 to $825, depending on what code I find. Not sure if they are under warranty, but I'll call to let you know. The good news is we'll throw in a free oil change".
Yeah... my question is... how do I figure out if I'm getting hosed on the codes? I'm assuming, after reading all of the above 12 pages, that this is a seatbelt assembly item, or something thereabouts. Anybody have any experience with this? Your comments would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks, in advance!!
~ Zire :D
EDIT / UPDATE: stealer just called... left control tensioner bad - ordered the part. Safe to drive. Will pick up the 'Mada later today, unscathed for now. Have to take it back in to have tensioner replaced once part arrives. Pheeew!!
mnelson 03-26-2009, 09:48 AM I am happy to say the flashing light has been fixed. Only 8 trips to the dealer later. Over that time they replaced everything connected to that system. It appears that the seat belt tensioners were the problem, which of course was the last thing they checked.
They also replaced all 5 air pressure monitors in the tires and that appears to have solved that problem as well.
I did complain to Nissan HQ in Franklin TN and they were responsive, but not really helpful. I was trying to get some love for all the trips back and forth. They were of the opinion that at least they helped me out and didn't charge me for anything. When in fact an operable air bag system is always under warranty regardless of age or mileage.
Bottom line is hassle is over, and I am enjoying the truck for a change.
Clag-San 04-01-2009, 12:50 PM Thanks for the help guys, I will try it as soon as I get off of work and i will post the pics too.
increasethemusic.com 04-26-2009, 12:44 PM I will be trying this. Mine has been flashing for a very long time. I kinda got use to it and learned to ignore it. I didn't really have the money to get it reset.
kixopao 05-05-2009, 12:51 AM I tried this on my 05 Mada and it didn't work. I did notice the change in the blinking pattern. It went from fast blinking to a pattern of 2 slow blinks and 13 fast blinks 2 slow and 13 fast. this pattern changed after the 3 cycles of the turn on and off routine. So it probably went into diagnostic mode but went I turned off, held 5 seconds and went back to on, the light would come back on again in the diagnostic mode. Any ideas?

Jaggernaut 06-04-2009, 12:30 AM you save me from going to the stealership guys..THANK YOU VERY MUCH!:D
Armado 06-22-2009, 05:17 PM My dealer told me it was because of "Front seat belt buckle pre-tensioner open or short circuit lh or rh" The "body harness connector replacement" was made originally too short and over time when ajusting the seat forward or back it pulls on the too short harness and 'pulls the wire apart inside'. This all started when I was having the battery replaced at the dealership. The service guy quoted $481. I did not agree to that at all! The service guy even said that there is a service bulletin out and that Nissan was making a new harness that was longer.
The referance # on the TSB is NTB06-001
It is at the dealer ship now because I am 'working with the service rep' to see what can be done.
MaxArmada 07-07-2009, 04:09 PM I took my Mada to the dealer yesterday monday and they told me that the warranty will cover it and that it will be ready wednesday because they had to order a part. They even gave me a loaner. I'll post whatever happens after I get it back.

mnelson 07-30-2009, 09:24 AM The reset trick works on my truck for a little while, but eventually the blinking returns.
To update, my truck went into the shop again today. 11th trip. Last time a tech from Nashville came to Baltimore to look at it and recommended replacement of seat belt tensioners. That worked for about 100 miles.
The dealership is considering buying back the truck. First they offered an entertainment package installation. I have made no decisions.

My concern is that while tweaks like this might stop the light from blinking, will it interfere with the airbag opening properly in the event of an accident? i'm not saying it will intefere, but just wondering. fixing the light is not worth losing the function of the airbag.

the main problem is the connector getting lose. we are only securing the connection and nothing else. tomorrow i will use a cable tie for the connector to make sure that it does not get lose again when i move the seat back and forward.

just cable tie any connector under the seat and you will be fine. then you can reset the airbag. it has been more than 3 months now since i did that and it is working fine.
good luck

Going to cable tie them together tomorrow with a small zip tie to hold the connectors together tight.

screamineagle 01-15-2010, 10:54 PM Took Nissan 4 futile attempts and 600 dollars of my money before I went to infiniti of Mobile. Those guys redid my belt 3 times and on the third time it worked thus far. Knock on wood. Those guys drove a new qx56 to my home 2 hrs away to pick up my truck and take it back to look at it again. I was shocked they didnt try charge me for something else since they had my truck so far away. Brought it back fixed and clean with no charge. Mark the General Manager is a man of honesty. Nissan of Fort Walton Beach.....CROOKS.
jazric 01-16-2010, 11:39 AM Thanks so much!! I just fixed too.
armaDad02 01-30-2010, 08:10 PM On a 1993 300zx you need to do the old door trick.
Worked for our '06 armada. It started flashing this morning after my wife drove it. What caused the warning light to come on? Thank you for the post. Stress and anger set in of the thought of going to the Nissan service dept.
kwaki13 02-26-2010, 11:12 AM Thanks, you are the Men .
BlakSpyda 02-26-2010, 01:54 PM Welcome kwaki13!
eolson 02-26-2010, 06:24 PM I got 2005 Armada, the flashing light a couple weeks ago, read on the forums on how to rest it. This works but after a while the light starts to flash again. The dealer is telling me it's an air bag harness that needs to be replaced. Is this something that can be fixed on your own? Has anyone had the same problem, what was the fix?
The vehicle has all options, so it's got heated seats, auto seat adjustments, pedal adjustments, etc. Don't know if that makes any difference.
Thanks much
kwaki13 02-27-2010, 12:17 PM Did u do any electric work before the light start flashing?
BlakSpyda 02-27-2010, 02:12 PM Welcome to CA eolson!
Some folks have had to do the reset a few times befor it stuck. However, if they say you need a new airbag harnass, you can probably do it if you are comfortable tearing apart the vehicle and putting it back together. All depending on your experience with vehicle electronics and such. that puts the responsibilty of ensuring your airbags work squarely on you. I would just rather have the dealer do it to ensure the saftey feature works if the reset does not work.
What I am saying is depending on which is more valuable to you, the time to do it yourself or the cost to having them do it!
firstturn 02-27-2010, 09:09 PM My 05' did it again after the fix posted here...I unpluged the same plug tightened pin connectors>performed "fix procedure" and back to normal..
This is my wife's vehicle but when we are out and about I like to drive it also!
Therefore the seat gets repositioned a number of times and I do believe that is part of the issue..maybe a hard wire or different plug if she does it again..
I will post on any further actions..
Thanks to all who have had input and actions posted on this site...It's a great resource..
JG
Now on to another issue-blend door seems to not be actuating properly..Will not transfer to floor..Will search posts..
eolson 02-28-2010, 10:42 PM Thanks for the info guys, I think it is a loose connection because the first time I noticed it was coming down a slight hill and the road was very bumpy (later winter the roads get very rough in some spots) and I'm now thinking the rough jarring may have caused it. A few days later, probably after adjusting the seats between drivers as you mentioned it went away on it's own. Then about a week later on a similar rough strip of road, it came on again.
Is there any where in this post or online that shows where this connection it located? I'd like to try the "zip tie" fix, or at least look at the connection to see if that is the issue.
jpspaz 03-02-2010, 11:44 AM Thanks for that information. I almost went to the dealer which would most likely cost me over $100.:D

Hi Guys,
I have the flashing light in my '05 LE and would like to try the reset trick, but could someone point me in the direction of the correct seatbelt harness plugs under each of the seats? I looked under my seats this weekend and there are several plugs under each seat. I would rather not unplug the wrong ones if I don't have to. So, if anyone can tell me which plug is the correct plug for the seatbelt harness as noted above, I sure would appreciate it.

240harley 05-13-2010, 06:12 AM I was in the dealer yesterday for an unrelated recall for the 05 Armada and I had the dealer check the blinking airbag light. They charged me $15 just for checking it and then advised the passenger side harness/seat belt tensioner needs replaced. They estimated a cost of well over $100 for the fix. I don't recall what the part numbers were but there were two parts they were ordering. Or it included two parts. the harness and the tensioner. I think I'll give this fix a try first. I have to wait anyway for the parts for the recall regarding the air conditioner.
Montag 05-13-2010, 10:12 AM Make them pay for the repairs. I did. I had the same problem and I considered it a safety problem, which it is. At first they quoted me a price and I told them I wanted to talk to the General Manager. He wasn't there so I left a message and politely indicated that I spent almost $40k on a vehicle and that I expected them to fix safety problems especially considering others are having it. I let him know that I would complain to the highest levels and would make sure the BBB had a complaint from me as well.
Later I got a call from the service manager. Of course they fixed it. It might not be worth the headache for you, but I was ticked...

240harley 05-16-2010, 06:19 AM I consider it a safety issue as well and if I have to I'll complain to Nissan USA! As a matter of fact thats on my to do list for Monday. Especially since the service manager said the airbags may not work!
eolson 05-17-2010, 10:54 AM I went to http://www.nissanusa.com/apps/contactus - filled out the form and they contacted me the next day...on a weekend. I mentioned the same thing about it being a saftey issue (it's not like its a broken windshield) I also mentioned that the airbag may not deply. I'm hoping to get some more info today after I talk with them.
screamineagle 06-07-2010, 12:20 AM for those who ran out of waranty and they don't have the money to purchase new longer harnes,, i got a free solution for you. unplug the seatbuilt harnes and bend the connectors inside the plug to make it tite but you need to reset the airbag light and you are done for good. try it and let me know. sorry i did not take pics. enjoy it.
So how do you bend the 4 pins in the connector. I bent them to the left or right and the light has come back twice. The pins are flat so did you guys twist them? Now that I think about it doing that would probably off the most contact. Also did you all do both driver and passanger seats or just he driver.

eolson 06-07-2010, 09:15 AM I contacted (800) NISSAN-1 (or 800-647-7261) and was told EVERYONE on this thread should call them as well. You can also fill out the online form at http://www.nissanusa.com/apps/contactus I got a reply in two days.
My regional rep told me that if enough people contact Nissan about this problem they will be more likely to create a recall. She said even if you have already fixed it on your own or paid for the repair through a dealer to contact them about the issue. The more people contacting them about this issue the better. I would assume if a recall is issued and you've already paid for it there would be a refund.
Beyond that she contacted the dealer and authorized $150 for the repair which she is paying, not me. Either way, it is worth it to either call or fill out the online form (which is the easiest to do)
totrow 07-01-2010, 07:13 PM My boyfriend used these instructions on his Titan and it worked! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
reaper 08-09-2010, 04:35 PM I just took my 2005 Armada in to the dealer and spent $434 to repair the known issue with the pre-tensioner, code B1177, only to find out reading this post that the wire and connector is stretched and needs some slack. I did contact the above 800 number and they were very helpful as well as filling out the form.
My biggest concern was finding out that when the console airbag light is flashing, the air bag system is inoperable. I am not sure that is the case when you are adding after market electronics, but until it is reset, I would assume it is inoperable.
I am supposed to speak with someone from Nissan regarding my complaint tomorrow and post the findings.
eolson 08-10-2010, 09:39 AM Thanks Reaper, the only way Nissan is going to do anything about it is when people complain about it. It sucks, no one likes to be a whiny *****, unfortunately its the only way to get them to solve this issue.
duksauce 08-12-2010, 08:32 AM Do not count on Nissan helping out in anyway. I have had the code b1182 and have had it to the dealer 16 times, Rt. 66 Sanson Jr. They have "fixed" both passenger side and drivers side harness-replace,retest, road test- light returns. Armada was first "fixed" at 17,000 miles. The airbag light has been on since 2006, my family is driving around in a car with no air bag protection. I used form on this website to contact Nissan, I was told I need a new sending unit over the phone at a cost of $862.00, How did they arrive at that conclusion? Nissan said that they could not help pay for the repair since my car is now out of warranty. Yesterday, I brought it to another dealer, Acme Nissan in South Brunswick and they diagnosed code b1182. How many times do I have to pay for the same repair? I can't sell this Armada, when the carfax is looked up and the car has been to the dealer 24 times in 5 years, it is not going to be a big seller.
reaper 08-13-2010, 01:03 PM An update on the air bag issue. I was contacted by Nissan Corp the following day to get additional information regarding my complaint. Corporate was going to contact the dealership to get the work order and other information regarding the problem. They said they would follow-up in a couple of days, I should hear from them today.
Meanwhile, I spoke to the GM at the dealership yesterday and a couple of things are going to happen. First, the dealership is going to institute a new policy notifying customers that their SRS is inoperable when the air bag light is on, so if you decide to drive the vehicle, it is at your own risk. Why they need a policy to do this is beyond me, it should be common sense. Secondly, the dealership is reimbursing me for the expense of the repair to make me whole, or nearly whole, I cannot get back the 3 1/2 hours I spent at the dealership.
It is very important, stated in an earlier thread, that we collectively continue to contact Nissan Corporate through the Customer Assurance phone number and website to change this issue from just a TSB to a full blown recall. It still amazes me that Nissan does not view the fact that an inoperable SRS is not a safety issue.
More to come.......
screamineagle 08-14-2010, 01:36 AM I doubt the airbags would not deploy if the SRS light is flashing. 99% of everyones problem is the seat belt harness. So you design a car to completly shut down the safety features if the seat belt doesn't register. I think thats another way a stealerships gets you let them replace everything in your car until you run out of money. Anybody had an accident with the light flashing. I'm sure there is someone out there that had the brake light come on while airbag light is flashing and crash into some car in front of them cause there brakes didnt work due to great engeneering and a companys lack of care for the safety of there customers. I really wish this would hit the news like toyota. Its like fight club stated. If the cost to fight law suits from defective parts killing passangers is less then the cost of a recall they go with option A. I'm lovin it.
eolson 08-14-2010, 07:30 AM Maybe we need to dredge up some bottom feeding lawyer to look into this. In today's sue happy society I can't imagine a better formula: car company refuses to fix non-operable airbag.
tjgjsj 09-11-2010, 12:22 PM Just joined and saw this thread and BAM it works keep up the good work!!!:):)
jb4iu 10-04-2010, 09:36 AM Ok, so I tried the method outlined in the initial post and had no luck. The SRS light would continue blinking slowly in diagnostic mode. Given the number of issues with underseat wiring I looked under the driver's seat and pushed in the wire harness (it feels like it is spring tensioned). I gave it a few pushes and then tried the reset procedure again. Wah lah...it worked. This forum is incredibly helpful.
Tmation 10-04-2010, 10:58 AM get a zip tie around the plug (as stated in an earlier post) and it wont happen again

Thanks for posting the air bag light fix. It took care of the problem the first time, on my 2008 Armada. I fixed it three days ago.
Yesterday, Oct 6th, I traded it in and leased a new 2011 Armada. WOW! It's nice. Not a Platinum, but leather, 20" wheels and a few other nice options.
So I signed up here and hope to be regular member. Thanks again
Rocket 10-30-2010, 06:34 AM A few years ago, I was messing around trying to install a module for daytime running lights. After poking around with my electronics, I realized that the vehicle is equipped with airbags, and upon further inspection I found that I had set off the airbag code light on my dash. Fortunately, no airbags deployed.
However, I couldn't get the light off, and I knew that everything was working fine (from before my poking around). I read some forums on trying to turn it off, and discovered that you couldn't do this without the Nissan dealer equipment, which would have cost me nearly $100 bucks for 2 minutes worth of work (1 hours labor). In any case, I read somewhere that if you cycle the key 256 times (like what is posted here), that the light would go off. I thought to myself, that someone was messing around and trying to get people to do dumb things to see if they would actually fall for it. When I went to the dealer, they couldn't get the vehicle in for nearly a week. I went home, and decided to be that fool that would fall for this trick. 256 was an odd number, but for electronics, it is binary so had me a little interested ... binary system: 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256 ... In any case, after cycling the key over and over, I discovered my airbag light went out after 128 cycles (half of 256) and has since stayed off (but working) for the last 3 years. I realize what this means is that Nissan doesn't want people clearing codes for safety items, so they don't give you access to clearing memory through a simple disconnection of the battery. This is smart, but annoying in the wrong circumstance (I know the system is fine because I set the code off). After me having cycled the key (or the vehicle computer) this many times (128), the vehicle's computer now understands that in running its diagnostic test this many times without incurring a "fault", would mean that the airbag system is working fine, and the code should be cleared, and therefore it does. 45 minutes cycling a key actually works.
FYI, cycling the key for me meant inserting the key, turning the key to the furthest position without actually turning over the motor, then turning back the key and pulling the key out ... 128 times.
Good luck to anyone who needs to do this procedure. It actually does work, and if you think about what it is trying to do, it makes good sense. Maybe your vehicle will require 64 cycles, or maybe 256. My 04 Armada took 128.
gouis 11-02-2010, 09:10 PM This also worked on my 2001 Sentra!
However I have a question. I am unsure if the light started flashing because I disconnected the battery to do a stereo install or because I had some water on my floor. My car was on a street with minor flooding, and I had an inch or so of water on the floor. I can't remember when it exactly started flashing.
If I reset it using this method does that mean the whole system is ok, or do I need to still take it in and have it examined (which is really pricey)? I would assume that if things were damaged it would just come back on.
scr38 11-02-2010, 09:21 PM If you are installing audio, and turn on the key while you have some of the wiring disconnected it will always cause the light to blink. Resetting it makes everything OK.
Dad_Roman 11-11-2010, 07:12 PM ....... unplug the seatbuilt harnes and bend the connectors inside the plug to make it tite .....
OK....call me dense but I need something a "wee" bit more technical than this:rolleyes:
After undoing the plug, I find the round pins in the male end and the enclosed connectors in the female end. The individual connectors in the female end APPEAR to have a tensioner spring above them but pusing on them doesnt seem to get me anywhere. Am I reading this wrong?
So how exactly are you guys "tightening" these connections in the connector? Bending the pins? (surely not)
Going on two years with this problem and hoping this is the solution;)
Anyone please?
Dad_Roman 11-21-2010, 03:23 PM Thanks Qaher! (and everyone else)
So my seat belt light came on and stayed on.
Since I had been fiddling under the driver seat I figured I might as well jiggle them all so I wiggled jiggled and squeezed ALL THE PLUGS under BOTH seats and VIOLA!!!
Not only did the seat belt light start working but the AIRBAG LIGHT finally went out after years of looking at it.
Thanks all....thanks CA.com:D
I love it here.....somebody pass the popcorn:D
jfregoso 01-01-2011, 02:01 AM My light just went on. Not excited about it. Does anybody know what the warranty period is for the SRS?
Dad_Roman 01-01-2011, 02:24 AM Dunno but if you read this thread you will get that the dealer cant fix this (unless you catch a really bright tech).

screamineagle 01-02-2011, 01:13 AM I have a 100% fix all solution.
Cut a 2" X 2" piece out of a thin beer cuzie and tuck it up in the upper right hand corner of your dash cluster. It wont melt to the glass and it stays there. I was about to go bat **** crazy looking at a flashing light and I was sore from being cornholed by nissan and infiniti. Been like that for a year and half. Out of sight out of mind. I will do the reset trick when I go to trade it in at the stealer ship. Givem a taste of their own medicine.
oldschoolguitarplayer 05-05-2011, 12:27 PM The fix worked great for me. Thanks !!!

UPDATE and answer Edit.
Almost 6 months later and absolutly no problems.
Want to ADD that while wiggling and jiggling and cleaning the contacts that its important to CLIP THE TIE WRAPS that hold the wire too tight and makes it pull on the connector when you move the seat;)
Iodonzs 07-28-2011, 03:18 AM We bought our '05 Armada LE in March...with the air bag light flashing. The dealership said they would take care of it. (not that I trust them much...but it did go away.)
Just a couple of days ago, that light started flashing again. Went out and tried this little trick and it seems to have worked.
My question is, what would cause the light to start flashing when it was "reset" in March? Could it simply be the connectors under the seat as previously mentioned? Or, does it point to a larger problem?
Thanks everyone...the forum is great!

Could easily be the connectors. They are tie wrapped without enough slack for the seat to move back and forth (the difference between Mom or Dad drivin;) )

eolson 08-01-2011, 08:52 AM My question is, what would cause the light to start flashing when it was "reset" in March?
Sounds to me like the dealership just reset the code to get the light to stop flashing, hopefully they didn't charge you for that.
I'd try to firm up the connection, then do the key start reset at home and see if that doesn't clear the problem for good.
I'd also contact Nissan on the customer service part of their website, the more people send in complaints about this issue the better chance that Nissan will fix the problem with a part recall.
gasguzzler 09-02-2011, 06:08 AM llajumpvid - followed your instructions and it worked like a charm. That airbag light has been blinking at me for over a year now. Finally it is laid to rest. Thank you very much.
Gonna head over to the thread on replacing a bad transistor in the Variable Blower Control (VBC) module (http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18673) to fix my constant high fan setting of my air system. The transistor finally burned out so now it is constant off fan setting :)
apeezy08 09-29-2011, 07:52 PM Thanks a bunch. Only had it for 3 days before this light came on. Its gone now.
Socially Distorted 10-02-2011, 05:54 PM We had our carpet replaced this past week and when we got the LE back the lights were blinking. This worked great to reset the system... hope there is nothing in the future to deal with.
Carlo12377 10-25-2011, 04:35 AM my dad has had this problem ever since he purchased the truck. although under warranty
the local nissan guys could not diagnose the problem causing lights to flash. we have no nissan armada locally.
i purcashed the truck from my dad last month and just ignored the light. tried the fix today it did not work. will try again tom.
Carlo12377 10-25-2011, 12:19 PM Fixed it the second time around.nook 5sets for the
Blinking to slow down and it dissapeared altogethr.
After 4 years of being so annoying it's killed. Rip

msan37 11-02-2011, 01:40 AM Its an old post but I am a new member and I just recently purchased a 09 Armada. I just bought it last week and the air bag light went on, on Halloween Night, lol. So I brought it back to the dealership for this issue and other minor post sale problems (cigaret cover, backset clips). They hooked it up to their diagnosis machine and determined that they need to order a new seatbelt. This is no cost to me so we will see what happens when I pick it up. Seems like i might need to use your tip after all. I will let you guys know. Thanks, and I am sure that I will be asking for advice on other Armada topics in the near future.
Carlo12377 11-02-2011, 04:06 AM i performed the fix last week, light went on again yesterday, did the fix its off again. hope it lasts longer
