: I finally happened....

With 2 months left in the "frozen" north of Fairbanks Alaska, I finally got into an accident. Well, it wasnt my fault.

So here goes,,,,

I was about to enter a round-about (one of those circle things in the middle of a residential street) and the other vehicle (F-150) was exiting. Anyway, I see the other guy moving way too fast on ice covered street and realized this guy was going to hit me. I pulled off the road up on a snow bank (right side of Mada was 2ft up) and stopped...thats right, I was stopped. If the snow wasnt there, I would be on the sidewalk. He slide right into me dragging hit truck down the left side on mine. Good thing is he admitted to the accident and is paying for the damages. Bad thing, my truck is no longer a pure.

That being said, and having to replace a drivers mirror, I am looking for tow mirrors that are heated and with memory. I will either get the original replaced or the body shop is buying be 1 tow mirror and I will pay for the other. I would like to talk the body shop into buying 2 tow mirrors and I pay him the difference from what he is paying for the original mirror.

Either way, last week wasnt a good week, and he is paying over $6500. I will put some pictures on soon.

That sucks, sorry to hear about your accident. At least your inconvenience isn't a total pain, sounds like the guy who hit you is going to take care of it. It could have been worse!

OUCH!!!! Is there any suspension or door frame damage???

His initial impact was at the gas door fill port. That sudden stoppage caused his tail end to slide into my mirror area and then his momentum drug down the side of my truck. His front left tire hit my rear left tire which stopped what could have been a major hit and damage.

Because of the dent, the entire fender below the left rear glass and into the door frame has to be replaced. The pictures dont make it look that bad, but to me it is terrible.

Boy was I trying. The cop said, "he must have hit you pretty hard to move you up on that snow." When I told the cop I was trying to avoid him, thats when it went from no-fault to his fault.

It's tough to tell from the pics but from what I can see, it looks like a Paintless Dent Repair might very likely be able to remove those dents unless you just want a new fender that might possibly not fit up flush..

I'd get on that rear tire alignment hard because our suspension components are soft and one small unvisible warp or bend can cause a LOT of problems. I'd also have that shock checked just in case because these Air Shocks are something like $200/ea if I remember right.

Oh,,,there is paint damage, and the body guy said the panal was "stretched" too much and had to be replaced. Yes, those pics arent the greatest (cell phone), but I will download my other pictures and maybe give a better image.

Bob,,,check your PM about the alignment. It was done,,,,

Just replied to your PM. From your PM and response on here, I'm guessing there's gonna be quite a bit of unforseen damage. These truck components are built too soft to allow a rear 1/4 panel to be stretched and throw out the alignment that bad without affecting other attached pieces IMO.

Nissan inspected and did the alignment. I took it on the highway and everything feels fine. But I like knowing the numbers to make sure "they" have everything back to spec.

As for the damage,,it was more of a glancing blow instead of direct hit. Which is why the body guy said the skin was stretched. I am just glad no glass was broken. Its too cold up here to be dealing with that.

You can look down the side of the tires and eyeball the rear camber, it's usually pretty obvious. For the toe, you can feel it in the gas pedal having to use a tad more pedal, or see it in your MPG, or feel it sorta "jump" a little on really windy days or on a road that shifts slant angles. If you feel anything that resembles slight jumping or hopping in the steering wheel while driving, that rear toe needs to be fixed.

It's easy to mistake for "bumpsteer". It took me a little while to figure out where mine was coming from after lifting it this last time.
