: Nitrogen inflation...for FREE?

I went by Costco today for a little shopping. I stopped by the tire department because I notice they use Nitrogen. I asked if they can deflate my tires and inflate with nitrogen. They said they used to, but they no longer do it, but since I am a member and if I do it today he will do it for Free. The tech just wrote up ther ticket as a tire repair. I didn't even buy the tires from Costco!!!! If you are a paid Costco member, I would try it and see if they will do it for Free. I was going to take it to the stealership, but glad I asked Costco instead.

I have 22 inch rims , tires size 305-45-22

Good luck!

Good deal since the dealer usually charges around $45.

I'm still not completely sold on Nitrogen - It seems the Cons still outweigh the Positives - I would say $45 is a pretty good neg. to start with -- Its availability, cant mix air/nit etc. - But will keep this Costco deal in mind for when its time to switch

Someone had posted about Cosco earlier and I also had mines done by them and they put the green valve cover on they used to do it for Executive Members, for the positive side of it.I live in NYC where potholes and bumps are normal, and my tire pressure have remain stable going on 3 months.

There are a few GT-R owners who get their Nitro from costco here in AZ.
Never thought it would make much difference on a mada tho

I get nearly 80% nitrogen fill for free all the time.... from my 60 gal air compressor. $45 is not worth it, maybe 45 cents at most.

My nearby stealership charges $50

I get nearly 80% nitrogen fill for free all the time.... from my 60 gal air compressorexactly, funny that I get same from my 25 gal ;) In fact same from my little 12 volt compressor I carry for topups after airdown for rough trails

And most shops that are charging only use nitrogen extraction systems to take nitrogen out of air - I read those are 95% pure nitrogen at best. If anyone is really intent on paying, suggest you at least ask to see their storage tank and the hookup where one of those big nitrogen truck comes in with refills. If you get a blank stare, might reconsider opening your wallet.

I might be missing the point here, but i think the idea here is costco did it for free. Free 100% nitrogen is an awesome deal.

80% Nitrogen from any compressor is still a bargain, but again - if its Free, i'd do it.

The point is that even if Costco (or anybody else) is using 100% nitrogen, they are not completely evacuating the tire so you still get a mixture. Plus, if you ever do need to add air to your tires (hopefully you do check them periodically), it further dilutes it.

More importantly, I have never seen a scientific study that proves that running pure nitrogen in automotive tires does anything but pad the shops wallet.

Pure Nitrogen is used in some airplane tires and in some race cars, but for different reasons. Primarily because they see much higher temperature swings then your truck ever will. This causes unacceptable changes in pressure in the tire that can lead to rupture for the airplane tires or changes in handling characteristics for the race cars.

From Goss-Garage:

---Increases Safety
Improves Performance
Saves Time, Money and Tires

You've heard about it, you've read about it, now it's here....

Nitrogen has been used for decades where safety and performance count most: NASCAR Racing, The Space Shuttle, Military and Commercial Airlines, and The Tour de France to name a few.

Nitrogen is better than compressed air because:
Nitrogen is a dry gas and free of moisture
Nitrogen doesn't deteriorate rubber like the "wet oxygen" in compressed air
Nitrogen has a larger molecular struture and won't leak like oxygen
Nitrogen makes tires less susceptible to air loss

Using NitroFill Inflation Tire Service:

Increases tire life up to 30%
Improves fuel economy
Reduces the chance of tire failure up to 50%
Improves brake and handling
Reduces wheel corrosion
Reduces running tire temperature
Maintains proper tire pressure
Maintaining steady and proper tire pressure reduces wear and increases safety

*Have most of these stated benefits been proven? Really asking about tire life, decreased failure rate, and fuel economy - If so, then Nitrogen may not be that bad in the grand scheme of things
