: Lost to a tundra

Anyone race a tundra yet? I raced a brand new 09 tundra, and he pulled away very easily. Maybe my 33x12.5 tires and lift create too much drag for my 05 SE, but I thought my Volant intake and Gibson exhaust would help out a little. But it didn't.

Don't mess with the 5.7 Tundra, especially the regular cab model.

You might also consider tuning if you want a track star. Changing out the '05 Intake Manifold to a '07-'09 will help open up your breathing path too.

Its the lift and tires bro. back when i was running Toyo poxes (which are a few lb's heavier than oem conti's) i beat a DC SB 5.7 Tundra. I had two people in my car and he had two in his. From a 40mph roll with him getting the jump by a hood i took the tundra by 1/2 a truck length and still pulling when we shut it down. I too have 33 x 12.5 and it really slows the truck down a lot. Pops and i both have had good experiences with our tundra run ins ;). Forgot to add i was bone stock at the time.

I Raced A Tundra On The Lie. But From 60mph. And At 90mph. I Said Goodbye....

The RCSB Tundra I raced was still brand new with low miles. I later found out that their ECU is tuned down before something like the first 3k or 5k miles on the odometer. I have a feeling that truck would've eaten my lunch if it had 6k miles on the clock.

From a dead stop, the 5.7 Tundra just leaps ahead of anything in it's class to include SUVs.

The 4.30 rear dif coupled with the super low 1st gear just gets that thing moving quick.

Considering how much actual horsepower we are down: 381hp vs 305 or 317....... plus the fact the Tundra has 6 forward gears to our 5.....we hold our own pretty well.

It should make you feel better when you start researching the strength of the Tundra's frame. Nissan is clearly the winner there. So, sure, Tundra is faster/quicker.....but years down the road, which one do you think will be more solid? ;)

no offense but thats from a paper racing stand point. I've raced one myself and idc what rear end ratio or how any forward ratios that TOY has i pulled away from that 5.7 pretty easily. THe guy even told me "not bad for a v6" LOL!

No offense....but I don't paper race. I drive (kind of) like you do....the big exception is, I don't post videos of the stupid stuff I do. I too have seen first hand what a Tundra 5.7 can do.

Scorpion, your enthusiasm is fantastic. However 1) a 4.7 V8 Toyota vs. a 5.6 V8 Nissan is not a race at all. Might as well pit an Armada against a Toyota Yaris. We are talking Toyota 5.7 V8 vs. Nissan 5.6 V8.

I can post videos all night where Tundras are walking away from Titans, or Sequoias doing the same to Armadas.

This one is actually a Toyota advertisement, however the acceleration runs were performed by a 3rd party, and are real "stock" trucks.

most other videos on youtube are modified Titans beating up on sleeping Tundra drivers. And I am barely exaggerating. There are some pathetic vids out there....and even more pathetic Tundra drivers.

that last vid posted there euro pretty much sums it up. the new 5.7 BEATS the armada. thats a fact. the new sequoia was tested by motortrend 0-60 in 6.4, which beats the mada's 6.7. and the tundra is even faster becasue its lighter. but really, did anyone on this forum buy their beast because it was the fastest 0-60? i love giving mine the boot, and its nice when merging onto the freeway, passing on a two-lane or certainly pulling a trailer. but this whole suv racing thing really makes no sense to me. who cares if the tundra is slightly faster? i'm not losing sleep over it, thats for sure. becasue no matter how fast your mada/qx is, there is something faster. period.

You guys are right. But i'm happy that we have the second best trucks out of the bunch.....hehehehehehehe. And i have to say, i didn't buy my armada because it was fast if i wanted fast i would buy a jeep srt8 no i bought it because its all around the best truck out there...

I could be wrong but after watching those videos, I do think that opening the airway with the Airbox Mod and using a Superchips tune might even up if not beat an equally packaged Sequoia. And it'd still cheaper than buying a Toyota. :D

A simple land cruiser with no options is $70.000. thats what, all most $20.000. more than armada with that money ill make my mada with 800hp

I couldn't agree more. Having this discussion is like members of a Corvette forum discussing how much storage space they have in the hatch compared to a Viper or Mustang. I seriously doubt anybody has ever chosen one huge SUV over another huge SUV because it was 0.3 quicker to 60mph.:D

I know people who bought their Cadillac Escalade for that exact reason. :D

Lemme guess, then he put some 26" rims on it which slowed it down the 0.3 thus defeating the purpose.:D

Maybe I should have said "not many people" instead of "anybody". Different strokes for different folks! :D

I test drove an 08 5.7 Sequoia and an 09 Armada. The Sequoia was faster hands down, gave me butterflies. The Armada, not so much. It felt sluggish. That being said, I still went with Armada over the Sequoia, one reason being that dealers are still hocking 08 model Sequoias, and no way am I buying an 08 model in May of 09.

Also the Armada felt roomier, especially for the kids in the back seat, and had more storage space. Also, we bought a new Xterra in 05 that we were happy with.

But hey, the Armada definitely has more balls than the 06 4.7 Durango it replaced, that thing was a pig!

I guess I just need to drive a new Sequoia or Tundra for myself. I don't really care about this speed stuff, but that is the first time I have ever heard someone call an Armada "sluggish"; be it a professional critic or regular joe. I have always been happy with the response of my Armada. When I was shopping for a SUV I drove an Expedition and a Durango, and I definitely would call those sluggish in comparison. I drove a 2009 Expedition not too long ago, and it was not improved. Maybe the Sequioa overmatches our engine that much, but I just don't see it from car reviews with track numbers.

To be honest, I detuned mine back to the stock tune map for towing my TT and it does feel a bit sluggish now. I'm wanting to read up on the Superchips Tow tune and try it out but I'll use stock for now. I'm looking forward to putting the mileage saver tune back on and get my pep back into the gas pedal. :D

I love the Armada, I wouldn't have bought one if I didn't.... but at the same time I'm not in denial. Even 320 hp won't move a 6000 pound beast. 380 hp? Well, that helps a bit.
