Im finally taking the Mada on our first family trip, I just wanted to get some feedback from some Mada owners that may have a cargo basket or rooftop carrier....Ive researched the Yakima and the Thule types and there great but very pricey....Anyone with some insight would be greatly appriciated....
thanks

I purchased the Thule Atlantis 1800, like you said it's a bit pricey but well worth it, especially if you'll be traveling a lot. It was easy to install ( I needed a 2nd person to get it on the rooftop).

Here's another thread: http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9148

I picked this Sears Sport 20-SV (mfg by Thule) up at a garage sale for $25 quite a few years ago and it fits just fine.

I recently have my old cargo but fit my Mitsubishi montero, but I sold it and kept the cargo and was too short to reach the front cross bar on my Mada. Nissan dealer want $250 for the cross bar. So someone was selling only the rear cross bar, so I add a second rear cross bar so I use that instead of the front. It fits but the maximum weight in the rear is only 125lb. I have not tried it yet but going on the trip this 4th July weekend and suggestion?

Do you have a newer Armada or one of the older ones. The early years used a two part system with a fixed front bar and a sliding rear bar. The problem is that the minimum distance between the cross bars is something like 49 inches center-to-center. I can't remember the exact measurement, but not all carriers will fit these earlier systems. I have Yakima Space Booster cargo carrier on my 2005 and I had to modify the mounting system with my Dremel to allow it to fit properly.

If you have this style roof rack, be sure to check the measurement between the cross bars and the specs on the carrier you are looking at.

I have the older model of the two part system. Pain in the *** just to find the right one. No wonder they change to the full system.

Not to hijack this thread, but has anyone seen the chome roof rack on the Platinum Armadas? Not sure if they are 2009 or 2010 models. but I was at the dealership today and I saw that and I'm not sure i like it. I also noticed that they added minor chrome clad on the side molding.

I have a Thule Cascade 1100 (Model 676xt) that I bought last year for a family trip to Disney that looked and fit really well. I had to drill a few new holes in the tracks of the carrier to make the U-bolt assemblies of the carrier align with Armada's roof rack cross bars. The place where you need to drill the holes is located beneath a weather sealed track inside the carrier where a series of other holes are provided already, but just don't align with the Armada cross bars.

The paint on the carrier is metallic black and almost exactly matches the factory metallic black (galaxy) paint. I bought the carrier last February from REI as a closeout for $200. Here are a couple of pics I found saved on my computer:
