: Armada shaking while braking
ret23 08-15-2009, 02:22 PM Hey Guys, my Armada is shaking really hard when trying to break from 35+mph. I've read that it may be warped rotors. I don't think the 36,000 mile bumper to bumper covers it and nissan said it would probably be $200 in labor. Does anyone know how to get this problem fixed cheap?
Snake Slayer 08-15-2009, 05:17 PM What year is your mada? The 3/36 should cover it. In most cases the dealer will only turn the rotors. The rotors are warped, my wife's 06 just started doing the same thing. I choose to purchase new powerslots from buybrakes.com. Swapping rotors and pad on these trucks is really easy if you have a Jack and jackstands.
ret23 08-15-2009, 09:29 PM I have an 08 so the warranty is still valid. Maybe I'll call into Nissan and get a real estimate. They said that whoever rotated the tires may not have adjusted something right. They also told me it may be worth waiting until I need brakes and get that done also. I guess the 3/36 doesn't cover labor? Does it cover brakes? I just got the car used last weekend so I would like to get this fixed soon.
BlakSpyda 08-15-2009, 10:10 PM The question is not what year your Armada is, n=but how many miles on the brakes. I have had 3 brake jobs at almost 100k. The first was at about 30k. When the pads get thin you will get vibration also. The rotors may be fine. Check you pads first.
norcal05SE 08-16-2009, 12:45 PM if the car shakes when you hit the brakes, its 99.9% going to be the rotors. i've never heard of a shake from thin pads. nissan should turn the rotors under warranty, but if not, swapping rotors is cake. jack it up, remove wheels, remove the two bolts that hold the caliper on, slide rotor off, slide on new rotor, bolt caliper back on, bolt wheels on, torque to about 100 ft/lbs. done. as said above, you can buy the sweet powerslot rotors which will stand up to the heat better, or you can buy an aftermarket rotor from raybestos, wagner, etc. if nissan wont do it under warranty, dont bother buying the nissan rotors; they are expensive, and, well, you've seen how well they hold up!!
ret23 08-16-2009, 01:51 PM Maybe I'll check with the aftermarket option. Nissan told me that they would need to sand down the rotors and thats where all the labor price comes from. I need to take it in just to get the problem diagnosed. The car only has 25k miles, but it came from Chicago, so it may have been alot of city miles. It may be worth getting new brakes also. Do you know if the 3/36 warranty covers new brakes also?
BlakSpyda 08-16-2009, 02:05 PM I guess you are right norcal05SE. My rotors were turned diuring my last brake job a month ago. I did have vibration with less than 2/32nds left on the pads. Third brake job, first time with the vibration, and now I do not have vibration.
1BadC10 08-16-2009, 02:27 PM 37K miles on the odo, and shaky movement while braking. It's the rotors for sure. I am still debating whether or not to use slotted rotors or the Autozone specials. I haven't had ANY issue with brakes after lifetime Duralast replacements! May continue the streak!
ichiroll 08-16-2009, 10:06 PM started having the same exact problem at around 15k miles.
had the same exact problems with the rotors on my FX35, which was covered under warranty. i think there was a TSB out for it.
better be covered under warranty.
Snizzle 10-20-2009, 02:33 AM i have da same problem but the shaking isnt bad. i just got back from a road trip and da brakes sucks. i thought that the weight from my 22s was da problem. but i see that every1 has brake issues with their madas. would da drilled rotors make a differnce. i rather do the drilled rotors than spend over a thousand dollors on a big brake upgrade.
This is what I ordered but won't have time to install until this upcoming weekend.

Cross-drilled rotors is the last thing you'd want to install, especially for daily driven vehicles. Unfortunately, these rotors will not only wear out the pads faster, the rotors themselves have the tendency to warp quicker and prematurely crack around the drilled holes. But if cross-drilled is something you must have, then go with a set from Brembo, Powerstop; quality wise, they're much better than those ebay brands floating around.
IMO, either OEM brembo blanks, or go with Powerslot rotors. I've had Powerslot rotors on all my vehicles in the past, and currently have about 32k miles on the set I installed on the LE since 07. And last I remember, Powerslot rotors are Brembo blanks that have been "slotted." Reason I say this is because along the vanes of the rotors, you can actually see the Brembo name etched in.
Now with brake pads...take your pick. Really, any of the top brands such as Hawk, EBC, Axxis all do the job. I've been using EBC waaaaaaay back since my import tuning days and will continue to do so. Now they've got the new yellow pads for suvs so I'll be getting a pair when the greenstuff needs to go in a couple months.
mangarete 10-22-2009, 01:31 AM i changed my brakes today 10 21 and i feel the difference.
