: Smoked headlight covers street legal?

My Armada has the VentShade smoke package installed - window rain guards, hood bug shield and moon roof wind deflector. The smoked headlight covers would look great in addition to what I already have.

I shined a flashlight through the bug shield and it certainly doesn't let much light through, which brings up questions:

1. Are smoked headlight covers street legal (California)?
2. Would you even want to use them at night? Maybe they are constructed differently than say, the bug shield, to allow more light passage?

Some of the sites offering them for sale mention they "recommend" they only be used for show or off-road.

I'm guessing they simply don't allow enough light passage to be effective, and are something you would only attach during the day for cool looks.

I would think they are NOT legal in any states.
No they would not shine very bright at night.

i'm 99% sure in CA you cant modify your headlights with any type of covering. remember back in the day when those GTS covers were all the rage? you couldnt see crap with them on. i wouldnt.
