My first post. I have a 2006 QX56 with 114,000 trouble free miles. Got a check engine light on today and come to find out my cats went bad. Dealer tried to add a bunch of other crap to the bill so I figured they may be trying to stick me on the cats as well.
Has anyone else had to replace the cats?
I'm pretty handy, is this something I can do myself.
FWIW I've done a search and came up with nothing so a link to the answers would be fine. Thanks.

Your primary cats are part of your exhaust manifold. They are welded together and sold as one unit.

Had to replace one of the cats on my Maxima, it was $850, and this was about four years ago.

Welcome to CA heavychevy! One dealer (Rosenthal Nissan, Tyson's Corner, VA) was trying to charge me much more than that for onbe side. So, if they are charging $1200 for both cats, that is a good price.
That's about right.... Mine were covered under warranty but they can be about $1200 each because of the exhaust manifold being attached. Just keep in mind that there are some aftermarket headers and cats available and Nissan dealerships can work on your truck the same as Infiniti can.

I would suggest you look on the forums and ebay you might find a great deal and just do it your self

What code did it throw?

I don't know which code, I wasn't told. My wife dropped the car off and I didn't talk to the service guy until later and neglecting to ask. I've already left it with them to repair.
Thanks for the help guys, I really don't want to put miles on my 911 so I just went ahead with it. Next time I'll be prepared to get it fixed for cheaper. Good thing is that the truck is now being used almost entirely for business, so I can write this off.
Also keep in mind NISMO headers that the dealerships will support. I'm not sure how that affects the CATs though, so I don't know if it'd save you money or cost you more for this situation. - lol :D

My cats were replaced on my QX at 70000km under warranty.
