First I would like to thank all of you members who helped me with my 04 Armada. Thank you! Secondly, I bought a new Platinum Sequoia yesterday. I still feel kind of dirty. I never thought the day would come. We were looking for a new Armada, but could not find any in the Cleveland area. My wife suggested we test drive a Sequoia... and I have to tell you guys, they are really nice. I thought it would be all plasticky, and while there is a lot of plastic, it is more of a refined plastic... LOL.
To make a long story short, I liked the horsepower and torque and think there are many worthy advantages.
I miss the Armada but am looking forward to many happy years of camping with "Yoda the Toyota".

Thanks again guys for everything and go easy on me please : )

congrats on your new ride. you'll get no hard feelings from me; given the choice i would heavily consider the toyota. i've owned numerous toyotas in the past, and currently i drive an '09 camry se (the armada is the wife's). in 05 when we were buying, the armada easily out-did the sequoia in every area we cared about (space, towing power, off-road ability). but with the next-gen sequoia i feel the gap has all but closed. congrats, again, and lets see some pics...

Norcal is bang on.

In the previous gen, the Sequioa was like a cheap puffy couch carrier. i just couldn't find much dessirable in it. The Armada was much more bold and contemporary in its styling.

I gotta say the new Sequioa really is muscular looking. And if you get a similarly capable tow vehicle --- whats not to like?

I looked at the Sequoia before getting the QX56. I couldn't deal with the interior...and it was more expensive.

It was more expensive, but I haggled a respectable deal and got a good trade in on it. The interior is already growing on me, but I do miss my Armada.

The problem with being in the "GM belt", they don't like japaneze vehicles. I'm back and forth through Cleveland and only see a few. Had I known I would have brought one for you and flown back home (Southwest $49). Be that as it may, Congrats on your new ride!

If I were in the market today for a full-size SUV like I was in late 2005, the Sequoia would be high on my list. I've never driven a Sequoia, but I sure liked it when I was looking at the auto show. But, price wise, it seems as though the Sequoia is way above a comparable Armada. Not sure where I would end up if I were buying today, back in 05, it was easy, Armada was king.

Keith - the price difference is roughly $5000-$6000 when comparing the LE Armada to the Platinum Sequoia, but like I said earlier, I haggled a very respectable deal and got a better than expected trade in on the Armada (only 51,000 miles) which brought the price within my range. As this is a Armada forum I will not pump up the Sequoia, BUT, you have to drive it to experience it. What a difference a second generation makes, I was hoping the Armada would emerge with the next generation, but as we all know it is on the brink of extinction. Good luck with your rig Keith, you are one of the members I highly regarded. Thanks

First off...Congrats!

We looked extensively at the Sequoia Platinum before we made our purchase. We loved the powertrain and the interior size (it felt a good bit bigger than the QX) and interior flexibility. Downsides were the lack of technology, poor dash layout, and general lower grade of interior materials compared to the QX. Add to that the fact that Toyota wanted more than a QX (this was right when it first came out and Toyota was still considered "bulletproof") and it was a pretty easy decision for our needs.

However, we did bring it home for a night and I must say, you start overlooking some of the Sequoia's flaws and appreciating it's strengths. Let's put it this way...I think a nice loaded Sequoia SR5 for 40K or so is a perfect combo but it misses the luxury market. That is understandable since it is tought to design a 28K workhorse SUV to also sell as a 60K luxury SUV.

A buddy of mine just bought a loaded SR5, partly based on my recommendations so obviously I liked the Sequoia. He is quite happy with his purchase.

Congrats again! What colors? We loved that Blizzard Pearl White that they had in 08.

Thanks Keg97,
The color is silver sky metallic. Looks great! I thought similar thoughts regarding the materials used on the interior, however like you said, it grows on you and you forget about some of that once you drive it. The dash is is definitely growing on me, I think it will just take some getting used to. I do prefer the leather seats and navigation/radio in the Sequoia platinum.

The regular 2wd SR5 tows the most at 10,000 lbs, and we were considering getting that or the limited, but once we were familiarized with the platinum and all that it came with, the decision was simple to make. I like that the driver can choose between 3 different type of ride: sport, comfort or the middle selection. It also allows you to adjust the height of the vehicle with the flick of a switch. While in cruise you can engage the radar to automatically stay within 3 different distances of vehicles in front of you.... the list goes on.

All and all I think the technology in this second generation Sequoia platinum is extremely competetive and much more advanced then the first generation Armada I traded in.

Thanks for the well wishes.

That color does sound nice and I do remember the adjustable suspension. That is sweet! We were just bummed that there was no keyless start, HID lights or Hard Drive/Music box. The nav on the Sequoia was also significantly slower and not as user friendly. But that was in 08- Toyota might have changed that.

There is no doubt, and I have said this numerous times, that we would not be driving a QX if not for the significant upgrades that Nissan made to the Armada/QX in 08.

I wish I could have found one locally to test drive / purchase. There are none to be found in Cleveland. I traded in a 04, basically a dinasaur compared to the newer models like you have.
