I had a 2002 Twin turbo V6 S4 and a 2006 V8 S4.
Loved 'em both.
The 2006 S4 was totaled - I was unscratched. They're built like an ingot.
Interior style, materials, and fit & finish was beautiful.
Exterior style was understated at best.
I think you can still order the A4 with the sport package which yields an "almost" S4.
Also the 2.0T is very "tunable".

i had an 04 A4. ton of car trouble and maintenance, I loved the car though, it looked beautiful, ran smooth, make sure you get the warranty on AUDI's as I've had to deal with the service department more times than i'd like.

I had an 06' A4 1.8T. Even to this day, I regret selling that car. Only time I brought it for service was when I installed HIDs in the fogs, and a CEL appeared. Found out later on that some cars like Audi, BMW need in-line resistors for certain bulb applications.

IMO, Audi's interior is far superior to Japanese and American counterparts in the same vehicle class and price. When I sold it, it had almost 70k miles and the leather seats were just starting to wrinkle; the leather seats in the armada started to show wear not even at 20k miles.
Overall, a great car and agree with DeepCat about them being "tuneable."
As a matter of fact, I still have the custom FMI(front mount intercooler) in my garage.. oh the memories.

GodfathersArmada, you won't be disappointed. They're great cars and with the 2.0T, enough HP/TQ for spirited driving. And you won't have a hard time finding toys to upgrade the 2.0T.
To name one in particular, GIAC. Trust me, worth the $$$. Seeing you have the Jeep SRT8, I'm sure you'd want to add a bit more HP/TQ, especially when it can be done while on the go.

Nice...I never own one but have always been a fan of the a and s. I was thinking about getting one recently too (used). An A4 sedan or wagon. Dropping on 18s deep dish staggered with the fender rolled. Looks awesome especially the wagon. :) post pics if u get one. :D

I was considering the A4, but instead, I'm leaning towards a Infiniti G37. Way more hp, bigger interior, almost as nice inside (Audi is top of the class in this area), cheaper, quicker. I can't speak for the current versions, but I know that earlier years were not reliable at all. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a G37 Sport with the 6 spd manual trans to replace my Maxima.

Sweet ride! Congratulations!

If you haven't purchased a warranty that wil carry you through whenever you think you'll get rid of it then try and get one right away. Regular maintenance is very expensive, as are many of the electrical parts in the interior. You'll wish you had it the first time you spill a drop of soda or coffee on the console or something stops working as it should. I never had a problem with anything mechanical on that car. Always electrical-related.

But I didn't mind because taking it in for service was actually enjoyable. Audi sure does know how to treat a customer. I arrived with a malfunctioning car, left with a brand new loaner and a hot coffee 15 minutes later, and the next day I'd pick it back up fixed, detailed and ready to go.

One of the other posters mentioned they totaled theirs and were OK - I couldn't agree more. I had an A8 and it was built like a brick sh- well, you get the point. They're sturdy, to say the least.

I'm sure you're going to love it.

Very nice also. My brother had the G35 when I had the V8 S4. Just when you think that Nissan has tuned that engine within an inch of self destruction, they turn around and find another 25 hp (with the G37). He used to kick me badly out of the hole until I realized that I had to turn off the stability control (ESP) and let all four tires light up. The Audis not only apply brakes to the individual wheels but also retard the throttle according to an algorithm when the ESP is on. Trouble was, the Eagle F1's I was running cost >$300 each so I only turned off ESP if it was my little brother trying to kick my butt.
I found his G35 a little harder to get in and out of but that's probably because I'm getting old and creaky.
By the way Keith, I've also had 2 Maxima SEs and a very much loved 1995 J30T.

Very sweet.
Careful with the tuning vs warrantee problem.
GIAC and others offered either a chip to use with your module or the whole module chipped. The whole chipped module was able to be swapped in or out for service days but cost an extra $500 plus or minus.
The chip/module alone would buy you around 50 or more hp. Guys put in larger turbos, Cat back exhaust, Intercoolers, CAI, etc.
I didn't do it to my 2002 V6TT S4 since I was happy with it's performance but there were some guys that made a real monster out of that car. They can do almost as much to the 1.8 / 2.0 T.
Check out these guys...
