thundertracks 04-06-2010, 05:47 PM Is it just my Armada that eats up a set of tires in less than 20,000 miles? The contis from the factory wore out in 17,000 the Bridgestone Revos (265/70/18) bit the dust in 18,000 miles, the Michelin Latitude Tour HPs (275/60/20) are almost done in 13,000 miles. I can't believe I have 48,000 miles on my Armada and I'm shopping for my 4th set of tires. A piece of steel on the road blew out the sidewall on the Michelin the other day, they are so close to the treadwear indicator I figured I might as well buy all 4. I see some saying they get 30-40,000 miles on a set of tires, I'd be thrilled to get 25,000. Only put about 9,000 on a year, rotated twice a year, tires all have worn evenly, this truck just eats them up! I love the Armada but my tire situation is beyond ridiculous!

Something is wrong, either you've got alignment problems, or somebody's out doing burnouts with your truck when you're not looking. The original Conti's lasted 35K, I'm now running Michelin's and got almost 20 on them, and they're barely even showing wear. I did notice that the Conti's were prone to flats, but haven't had that issue with the Michelins (knock on wood).

Discount Tire 04-06-2010, 06:28 PM Sounds like something is off but I'm not sure what. I would recommend taking your Armada in for an alignment before you put your next set of tires on. Are you on rough roads a lot? Lots of hills and or curves?
yomada 04-06-2010, 07:19 PM that's ridiculous wear. If you're getting even wear, don't the tires have warranties on them? I've heard of shops not honoring warraties due to uneven wear, but if it's even, then you got a good case for warranty. Costco has been really good to me with this issue.
scr38 04-06-2010, 08:11 PM I replaced the OEM Contis on my 04 at about 45K miles. They still had good tread, not down to the wear indicators. I installed Michelin X Terrains, now have 82K miles and the Michelins still have about 25-30K left in them. I am a fairly aggressive driver, but I keep my tires at the correct pressure and rotate often.
thundertracks 04-06-2010, 09:11 PM As I said, I Rotate twice a year, Only avg about 9,000 miles a year, Air pressure good, Don't tow, Every set wore even, had 4 wheel alignment done when each set was put on. 90% of my driving is in town, not a slow driver but hardly a maniac on the road. I bought the 04 Armada new, has never been in an accident, I am the only driver, too big for the wife. The only tires that had mileage warranty was the Revos, I didn't use it because I bought the QX56 20" Chrome takeoffs w/ Michelins on EBay, the Guy said he only put about 100 miles on them, which seemed about right, the nubs were still on the tread. At least the tire store let my buddy use the credit from the Revos for a set of tires and he gave me 1/2 of what he saved. Before i bought the Armada in 04 I had an Explorer, Ford replaced my Firestones at 11,000 miles under their buyback when Firestones were supposedly imploding. I got a new set of Michelin CrossTerrains, when I sold the Explorer to a girl in work the Mich had 30,000 miles on them, very little wear shown, she ended up running them for a total of 60,000 plus miles.
Discount Tire 04-07-2010, 11:44 AM If you are in a state that has a Discount Tire or America's Tire location take your vehicle there. Talk to the store manager and explain to him the trouble you have had with life. He should be happy to make a recommendation for you and if your burn through another set he should be able to help trouble shoot the problem or warranty the tire if it has a mileage warranty.

Yea, it's just you.... I'd suggest getting it aligned ASAP and post the final printout on here.... I have almost 50k miles on my current set of tires. :D
Wouldn't have been completely shocked if you were only referring to the Conti's. Mine only made it 22K. I believe they were known for wearing fast. I did however get 53K out of my next set - Mich Cross-terrain.
Something is up. Could you have possibly gotten old tires? Could the tires be dying of old age rather than mileage?
ntrddragn 04-07-2010, 03:30 PM thats ridiculous wear considering you dont drive that much. I have an 04 and my tires are in great shape for being a year+ old and we drive it a lot. i rotate them often and keep the pressure like 40psi. is your alignment straight when YOU drive? i took my honda accord to a tire shop and they swear the car is driving straight based on a stretch of road they tested it on. but when i drive its pulls right. so i went back and complain i noticed uneven wear on them. and these tires are newer then the armada tires. so dont take their words at face value.
thundertracks 04-12-2010, 09:53 PM Well, Last Thursday I got a new set of 4 Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenzas, 275/60/20. 600 treadwear rating, 65,000 mile warranty. Had the alignment checked at the Firestone store, they said it was good, also took it on Sat. to the local alignment shop they also said it was good. So we'll see how these wear on my Armada. Couldn't beat the price, $670.00 (Pa. sale tax included), and I still have a $100.00 rebate coming from Bridgestone. Lifetime balance, rotation included. The ride is much improved, see how it goes at least I have the treadwear warranty to fall back on.
