Bump, with a new pic.

This is really a great system that many have been happy with. Not overbearing, and no drone.
Jason B 06-02-2007, 01:55 AM Bump, price reduction on all Gibsons! We were able to get better deal on our end and as passing on the savings :)
PHD007 06-03-2007, 02:14 PM Does anyone have any pics of the Gibson installed on there ride??
Jason B 12-28-2007, 07:46 PM Anyone wanting a gibson, I encourage you to order soon. After dec 31 2007, gibson is raising pricing about 5%. If you want an exhaust, order soon. I've sold just about EVERY exhaust and for the money, these system are a great deal.
Jason...
What's the diameter on the Gibson piping? After crawling under my 'mada I measured mine to be somewhere around 2"-2 1/2". I was curious as to how much of a size increase I'm looking at in regards to the piping diameter.
Thanks in advance!

scr38 02-20-2008, 10:06 PM 2 1/2" Y pipes joining into a 3" into the muffler. The muffler is a 3" straight through with a 3" tail pipe and a 3 1/2" tip.
It is a nice system; I think you would be pleased with it.

Thanks scr38... however I have one more question regarding the Gibson system, and I may be showing my complete inability to capture what it is I'm trying to say exactly, but I'll give it shot:
First, does the Armada come stock with a 2 1/2" pipe from the cat to the muffler? If so, then why replace that section of stock piping with the Gibson? Why not just purchase a new muffler and piping from the muffler to the tip? Does that make any sense?
Really, I'm just looking for the most cost effective way to up the hp, gain a little grumble, and not break the bank. I'm more than happy to pick up the Gibson system if it's worth it, but I surely don't want to 'waste' my money by replacing stock piping with the same diameter new piping.
Thanks!

That makes sense. But there are reasons to go with the entire system.
The stock Y pipe is 2 1/4", which is fine.
But I like the Gibson better:
1. The Gibson Y pipe is a one piece assembly; the stock Y pipe is two pieces, and has a clamped joint under the transmission where the two connect.
2. On the 04-06 Armadas the stock Y pipe has a poor design where the two head pipes join into the single 3" pipe. The two pipes are flattened so they can be merged into the 3" pipe. See a cut away of this in the attached photo.
3. The Gibson head pipes merge smoothly into a true collector to the 3" pipe.
On the 07-08 Armadas the two head pipes run all the way to the muffler, so they don't have the problem where the pipes merge, but they still have the extra joint in the left head pipe.
jakmobile 02-21-2008, 10:20 PM I've read quite a few postings saying that the fittings aren't the best and leak quite a bit. Has Gibson done anything to resolve this?

Thanks again!! I appreciate the info.
I'm going to give my exhaust/muffler guy a ring and see what we can work out.

Correct, you know your stuff :) And about a 20 HP gain to boot!

The fit is fine. I would like to see Gibson use better clamps, however I have had the Gibson installed for almost three years and have had no leaks.
mojo2 02-23-2008, 05:27 PM Jason B, do you have any dyno charts that show a 20 horse increase with only a Gibson exhaust? I've had exhaust systems on every truck/suv I've ever owned; the last system being a Corsa cat back. For years I bought into the advertising regarding significant horsepower gains resulting from the addition of xyz exhaust system, and never saw such gains myself. In fact on a few trucks I owned years ago, I actually lost low end grunt by adding a cat back system, and compromised my off the line acceleration. I'll admit, I didn't know much about the importance of pipe diameter then and now realize that I had reduced my backpressure to much. However, even on my best applications, like my recent Corsa system, I only saw 2 more horses on the dyno which could have been attributable to a number of other factors.
I say, If you like the sound of an aftermarket system, then go for it, otherwise, your performance money is better spent elsewhere.
Jason B 02-23-2008, 07:08 PM Yes, check the Titan forum. Also, remember, this is a V8 that just loves more air. More than just about any pick-up I've seen. Any mod to the intake or exhaust just reaps tons of power on THIS engine.
Jason B 03-25-2011, 11:55 AM For those that don't know, Gibson had a price increase a while back and we still have not change/updated our prices on the website[/b], so anyone wanting a great system, you will be getting a great deal!
These prices will only be good until the end of this month! Those that want a great system at a great price, order soon!

reaper 11-17-2011, 04:49 PM I just ordered the system from Jason to replace a rusted out muffler/tail piece connection. I should see an improvement in overall performance with the Injen CAI and BDPP already on the truck.
I will post the results once installed.
BostonBob 11-28-2011, 09:57 AM Reaper - any results to post?
reaper 11-29-2011, 01:26 AM No, I am still waiting on the package to arrive.
Jason B 12-05-2011, 11:54 PM For the money, it's hard to beat.
reaper 12-06-2011, 12:31 AM Well it arrived late last week and I had an opportunity to install it Sunday. Took me, by myself 6 hours from start to finish. That included the nearly one hour to grind off a rust welded nut. Interesting enough two of the nuts were 14 mm and two were 13 mm, but all four had the same I.D. And be careful not to round off the nut....like I did.
Some points to consider, leave the muffler hanger off until you get the muffler outlet rotated to the 10 o'clock position, unless you have the forearm strength of Popeye. Second, drop your spare tire and leave it down until you connect the muffler and tail pipe together.
Tightened all the clamps, started it up and I immediately noticed the low growl. No drone, just a nice throaty growl. It was late when I finished, so I did not do a road test last night.
Skip to today, took it out for a spin on the main drag, posted 55, acceleration was smooth and effortless and very little interior noise. I have read where some have stated the exhaust drones around 55 mph, I had none. I plan to take it out on the Interstate tomorrow to see if there is a change in the interior noise.
I will post some pictures of the underside of the truck.
One thing I don't care for is the length of the tail pipe as it exits the rear of the truck. With the nice Gibson tip that is supplied, the tip really sticks out a way. I need to cut maybe 3-4" off, so that the tip is peeking out.
Along with the exhaust I am running the Ingen CAI and Bully Dog PP stock with a 2 degree advance.
Pictures tomorrow.
