: Questions on Double Din Radio Bezel
crash4444 05-22-2010, 01:47 AM I have a 2005 LE with the Bose system and navigation. I am taking it out and installing a Pioneer Avic Z120BT in its place. I have read all the threads and then got confused a bit. If you can help answer a few questions I would appreciate it.
1. I am looking for the part # for the Oem double din radio bezel, I saw this in a post and now cannot find it, I found another one with a link that no longer works.
2. I have looked at the Scosche bezels and they have the NN1451B, but the holes at the bottom are not in the right place. Mine has from left to right, the air bag warning light, emergency blinker button and Aux button.
3. I have looked at the Scosche NN1453, which I know is for the 2006 and up, it appears to have the holes in the correct places, but a slot above the A/C controls for the display. Other than the display slot would everything else fit properly? I am planning on adding a dash kit that would cover the slot, and eliminate any color differences, or I could use a piece of duct tape. lol
4. I have emailed Jason at Burtmans, but does anybody know if his wood dash kit can come with a double din piece? This was asked in a few threads but I never saw it directly answered.
5. Has anybody used a dremel and just cutout the double din on their oem bezel?
6. All of the bezels, both Metra and Scosche, say they NOT Compatible with Dual Zone Climate Control Equipped Vehicles. I must have the wrong understanding of what they mean by this as they seem to accomodate the control knobs on both kits. Help my brain understand this.
7. Does anybody know what kind of adaptor would be needed to hook my factory camera to the Pioneer, if any?
8. Finally some suggestions on uses for the OEM NAV screen? I have to take it out and buy an expensive trim piece or leave it there blank.
Thanks
crash4444 05-24-2010, 12:09 PM I guess I am going to have to keep looking. Not one response? Where are all the A/V experts?
rockendoublez 05-24-2010, 03:28 PM 1. I wasn't able to find one that fits an 05 w/navi. You may want to contact tech12volts, they are the site sponsor and have much experience with the Armadas.
2. Scosche didn't make one for the 05 +navi
3. Not sure. sorry.
4. Don't know.
5. Has anybody used a dremel and just cutout the double din on their oem bezel?
6. Most of the kits were designed for the SE vehicle.
7. you would need to splice the wire into a single video rca that your deck would accept.
8. How much money are you spending on your system? you might want to think about kenwood's carportal and save that screen.
hitmantony 05-24-2010, 05:17 PM Just adding to what rockendoublez has already said:
Here is a good post that I found that shows the OEM vs Scosche kit:
http://www.titantalk.com/forums/titan-visual-audio-discussion/92900-aftermarket-stereo-faceplate-other-brands.html
By the way it seems the OEM kit is only for a Titan XE, hence no cutout for the rear A/C controls and no port for the AUX input. Still worth getting considering it's a better quality fit and finish. Just find the right sized hole saw to cut the holes for the rear A/C controls and finish off the edges with some sand fine sandpaper. As for the AUX jack just leave it behind the bezel and route a long enough plug into the glove box(by the way that's how mine is setup, wire is in the glove box, all I have to do is plug the MP3 player in).
As for the Scosche kit even though for some odd reason the holes at the bottom are in different locations the connectors will still reach so that's nothing to worry about, if you go that route.
By the way are you selling your system to someone you know? If so might as well trade the entire front bezel/housing for their non-nav housing, that way you don't hove to worry about what to do with the screen opening and don't have to worry about cutting the dash kit.
As far as I know there are no wood dash kits available for a Double DIN kit, I could be wrong though.
One major problem that you are going to run into is you won't be able to correctly use the climate control system since it is only displayed on the NAV screen, so you won't be able to set/see the temp and mode. Unless you figure out how to wire it into a 06+ dash that has the LCD slot above the climate controls. In which case you can use the 06+ Scosche kit:-). But that can be a pain to do.
I would think that it's probably not worth it to loose some features that the Tech Package provides. As rockendoublez said might want to look into the carportal system by Kenwood so that you can still keep all the OEM stuff intact.
crash4444 05-25-2010, 12:59 AM Thanks for all your help.
#3 Jason can get the dash kit for a double din, but it is a custom job, I will have to see how much it will run.
I am pretty much committed to the upgrade at this point, otherwise I will be selling stuff on Ebay like crazy, Only thing I have not purchased yet is the amplifier and replacement speakers.
I do have someone who has the non oem setup that I was planning on trading with. They just want the NAV system, not the headunit. I am still researching to see what it takes to add the NAV to a 2006 Titan CC LE. The parts seem to be identical, I am going to print out the wiring diagrams tomorrow. After hearing the RF in the Titan I think it blows away the BOSE in mine. I plan on checking it out this weekend to see exactly what is required as far as connections to see what would be required. If it does not work, then we won't do it.
I appreciate the insight on the Kenwood, I will look into that.
I was not aware of the issue with climate control stuff, that is something I am going to have figure out. Maybe I would have to acquire a different climate control with the video screen above the controls and see if that would work. ?????? Damn, but then again it is half the fun. I am somewhat crazy, but I have a Master Electrician at work with 30 years experience who owes me and has offered any help I need.
crash4444 05-25-2010, 12:54 PM So after some thought, I believe I would have 2 options as far as the HVAC goes, I could leave the OEM screen in place and use it to view the HVAC system, time to search the junkyards, and. Or I could possibly buy a newer version of the HVAC control module from a 2006 or 2007 that has the little display screen above the controls and see if that would work. I may have access to a 2006 titan this weekend that I can pull the module out and see if I can make this work. If that is the case then I know what trim kit would work.
crash4444 06-02-2010, 01:20 AM So I had access to the HVAC controls from a 2006 Titan over the weekend, same connectors as mine, so could be an easy install, but no, after reviewing the service manuals wiring diagrams, same connectors same wires, but every wire in a different slot, total craziness if you ask me. I guess I could cut off the connectors M49 and M50 from the main harness and rewire to match the circuits on my controller. I Can tell you that isn't not going to happen. So back to the drawing board. As for the my navigation system, I have not had time to put the OEM headunit back it yet, but the navigation system runs just fine without the headunit. I am sure there is some missing features, but the NAV runs completely independent of the headunit, so much for them all being tied in together.
