: Camera, clock, mirror, installed
hitmantony 07-12-2010, 07:20 PM So I finally finished installing some of the things on my to do list which included:
1). Qx56 clock installation:
http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8712&stc=1&d=1278975306
2). Added overhead compass/temperature/homelink console, '04's didn't come with one:
http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8713&stc=1&d=1278975306
3). Back-up camera:
http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8714&stc=1&d=1278975306
4). Nissan Lane Guide:
http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8715&stc=1&d=1278975306
The Garmin unit has a crappy screen resolution considering it's size so the image isn't crystal clear but still very functional. I am glad I finally got to put the clock in, took me a while to find it. Everything works perfectly and light's up when you turn the lights on. And the overhead compass/temp was just for fun, plus the homelink button was easier to reach than the mirror.
The only pic I didn't take was the turn signal mirrors, I wasn't able to get the power fold feature working because I don't have the correct door harness. Apparently the '04 LE's have a different harness than the 05-up LE's. I had no way of using the power fold switch because the harness connector was completely different, so I will tackle that job some other time.
Rumplecat 07-12-2010, 07:22 PM Looks great!

skullcandy071 08-09-2010, 11:55 PM Where did you buy your back up camera??
I am guessing you had to drill a wire through that flat cover so the wire can pass through. Also what did you use to make it water tight so it wont come off or rain or anything will get inside??
Thanks and it all looks great

Here is what the camera looked liked originally, basically you drill a hole with a circular bit that was conveniently provided with the camera and then just tighten the nut that screws in from behind. I don't know if you can see it but the entire back side of the camera is threaded. For extra measure I just put some silicon near the back side. It a nice firm attachment.

I got it off ebay a long while back, just got around to it recently, I will see if I can find the seller.
Here is the pic of the hole you have to make:

skullcandy071 08-11-2010, 12:01 AM Oh ok thanks man. I was looking on eBay for a backup camera like that amd I found one but I dont know if it is the right one. if you can find me the seller, that would be great.
Another quick question, did the reverse lines on your nav screen come with the back up camera??
Thanks

Still can't find the seller, I bought the camera more than 2yrs ago. As for the guide lines, I used the Nissan OEM camera module from a wrecked Qx56.
Here is a post I made some time ago about it:
http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13751
By the way Pioneer makes a camera that has the guide lines which can be adjusted by the user. Clarion might have one too. The only draw back is they cost around $300.

Yeah I still can't find the seller, but the one you linked to in your other post looks very similar to the one I bought. By the way I replied to your other post but a quick answer to your question is yes and that NAV converter is the easiest way to do it.
hitmantony 08-11-2010, 11:12 PM Hey skullcandy071 and danield,
I should point out to you that the camera is meant to be put from under similar to how most camera's in OEM cars are mounted. So you are going to run into two problems:
1). If you attach the camera the same way I did, the image will be upside down. The solution is to open up the camera and just turn the entire lens unit 180 degrees. Mine had four screws that were hidden behind the thin gasket on the back.
2). Once you turn the lens you will notice that it's angled too far down and will show a lot of the bumper which I didn't like. So I cut out a piece and decreased the angle but also had the rebuild it with some epoxy. I have a picture of what I had to do but don't have access to the computer it's on, till this weekend.
You guy's might want to wait till I post the pictures of the camera and then decide if you want to go this route.
skullcandy071 08-12-2010, 02:19 AM Oh ok I get what you are saying now. I currently have a back up camera installed but its the cheap plastic one that goes on the license plate. I had to open it 5 times because it fogged up. Its ok for right now because it shows the very bottom of my bumper. But I think I might just go with this one

I really wanted one that looks nice and flush and does not look cheap but you are telling me tho that is has to be modded but I think I can do that. I think I will wait till you post more info about it tho

Might be a better option than the license plate cam, looks nice and clean. Just not sure you will be able to see the hitch if you plan on towing.
Here are some more examples from others:

hitmantony 08-12-2010, 11:10 PM your rear view mirror doesnt display tem, direction, and homelink?
It does, just did it for the hell of it plus the homelink buttons were easier to reach. I don't know if you guys have this problem, but my mirror housing was rattling a lot so that was another reason for moving the homelink buttons.
skullcandy071 08-13-2010, 02:11 PM Wow thanks for the pics. I think I might just do that instead. But now I gotta find a backup camera small enough to fit in that hole. Thanks for the reply
This has helped a lot

hitmantony 08-17-2010, 02:45 AM Here is what the camera looked like before giving it a final sanding:

http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8814&stc=1&d=1282027055
I had to cut the back out because the lens electronics would not fit anymore so I found a pipe cap from Lowes that fit and used that to seal the back. I was still able to use the original nut to secure the camera.
skullcandy071 08-18-2010, 12:36 AM Oh ok. I get it now.
Hmm there are so many options now for me to choose from. I think I will ask friends and family for some advice on which one to go with.
Thanks for all your help

armadadd 08-18-2010, 08:47 AM Are you planning to sell the stock center housing with the a/c buttons?
josephi.06 08-20-2010, 05:08 PM Here is a camera that resembles what you have http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-rear-view-CMD-camera-backup-system-5M-cable_W0QQitemZ190431010547QQcategoryZ32826QQcmdZV iewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC% 26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS %252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D12%26pmod%3D19042741177 5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6263114248059549663

Do you just want the center housing or are you also looking for the a/c buttons?
armadadd 08-23-2010, 11:41 AM I'm looking for the ac buttons the ones for the rears..
hitmantony 08-23-2010, 10:31 PM I'm looking for the ac buttons the ones for the rears..
Sorry don't have one, I just transplanted them from the Nissan panel to the Qx panel.
josephi.06 11-02-2010, 12:43 AM When you say that it showed too much of the bumper, exactly how much did it show? The entire bumper? if so, how far back (length) was the camera able to catch in that position. I really want this set-up because it looks clean, I know I can probably turn the lens, but I am not quite sure I can do all of what you were able to do with the sanding and pipe cap!!!
