Generally good, but just a short on road. "Handling not as crisp as the original OX's, and the speed-sensitive rand and pinion power steering is secretive on-center". "Oddly, for a vehicle with off-road credentials, minimum ground clearance has gone from 10.8 inches to 9.2. Then again, off-road for most vehicles in this class is backing a trailer down a boat ramp."

They compared it to the Escalade and Navigator, favorably. But is that how we judged the 2004-2010 model?

Highs and Lows

Highs: Lots of smooth power, slick transmission, splendid interior, tons of standard features, shaving-cream ride.

Lows: A little soft in the agility department, cream-colored furnishings won’t like dirty driving.

This is a 2006 test: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparisons/06q4/2007_audi_q7_vs._2007_cadillac_escalade_2006_infin iti_qx56_2007_lincoln_navigator_2007_m-b_gl450-comparison_tests/2006_infiniti_qx56_4x4_page_2

"No small share of the Infiniti's charm traces to its unfashionably small 18-inch wheels wrapped in big ol' high-profile 70-series rubber. Dowdy, sure, but they're smooth and quiet over the road — something we can't say about the Cadillac's and Lincoln's — and they steer quickly and accurately. The QX56, alone among the trucks, rides and sounds up to luxury-vehicle expectations."
