: Leather Care
scot0410 08-28-2010, 12:40 PM Those of you that have leather interior, I have been using Liquid Glass products (Connoisseurs Choice) and precleaner for years but lately I am not satisfied with the results. I just ordered some Leather Master products and am wondering if any of you have tried them. They seem to have excellent reviews.
phillip 08-28-2010, 02:09 PM I've always used Meguiars Gold Class Leather Cleaner with good results. What was it you're not satisfied with?
danield 08-28-2010, 05:51 PM I have always used Majestic Solutions Products....They have a plastic/leather cleaner and a leather protectant. All their products are made by them and smell great and are all biodegradable.Heres their link. http://www.majesticsolutionsinc.com/
screamineagle 08-28-2010, 06:18 PM I use black magic interior cleaner for both the dash and the leather seats. It works alot better than the apply and buff off products. It makes the seat slick and soft so you kinda of just slide in them. Plus it has a sort of new car smell to it.
marctronixx 08-28-2010, 06:50 PM me too... :D

It worked well in the past, but lately it just isn't giving the leather that like new softness that it did in the past. I called and was told that no changes have been made to their formula. I think Leather Master products will be a good move. I'll update after use.
richmond armada 08-30-2010, 03:51 PM I have heard good things about leatherique
primoV8 08-31-2010, 09:57 AM I use Zymol's leather cleaner and conditioner; my previous A4 1.8T had over 62k when I sold the car and the leather seats had only begun to show some wear. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for my 04 LE since the seats began to wrinkle and crease before it even hit 30k miles. But at 90k miles, at least it still shines semi-new and smells good too, lol.
scot0410 08-31-2010, 10:08 AM Thats just it Primo. In past vehicles with leather I never had a problem with aging, but in my Armada's driver seat (the only one that ever gets used) I am starting to get creases with only 26k miles on it. I am pretty meticulous about my vehicles and this kind of thing bothers me.
Hoping new product will help this. Although, old product (Connoisseurs Choice) worked perfect in past vehicles and smelled great too!
primoV8 08-31-2010, 10:33 AM I've got a friend who specializes in restoring classics, and an artisan he is when it comes down to custom interiors(He also recommended Zymol for the interior many years ago). When he saw the leather interior of my 04, he already knew it wasn't going to last... and he was right on the money estimating the wear would begin around 20-25k miles.
From his experience in working with a range of vehicles, classics & new, he always said the Japanese manufacturers always uses mid-quality leather. Even some of their luxury brands have leather interiors that don't even come close in quality, durability as compared to entry level VWs, Audis, Caddys leather interiors.
scot0410 08-31-2010, 10:36 AM That explains it. Thanks Primo!
screamineagle 09-06-2010, 12:15 AM Ive heard that jizz is the secret to lustrious long lasting leather seats. It easy to extract (For me at least) and best of all its free! It's also a useful hair conditioner. Just ask my wife. She looks like a Pantein Pro V model.
scot0410 09-06-2010, 09:17 AM Well, that just cancels out any idea of ever carpooling. Lol.
danield 09-06-2010, 11:24 AM I swear its not even real leather in my '04 seats. The previous owner had the drivers back seat cover replaced under warrenty.I seen it in the records the owner gave me when we bought it.I seen the leather worn off before i noticed it was replaced in the service records.I dont think i have a chance fighting with the dealership who did the original replacement because once its out of 36k warrenty dont think they will help you.The sad thing is it only has 38k on it BUT its a '04 so they will prob. say its 6yrs. old and they cant help me...I'll go take a pic of it and post it and u guys tell me what you think
danield 09-06-2010, 11:45 AM Not to bust up the thread but heres my leather issues. What leather care prevents this?BTW it has been garage kept and the owner bought it new and only weighed 175lbs.
Driver seat by controls where the metal inside has cut the vinyl i mean leather.

Benjamin Check 09-07-2010, 09:58 AM Ain't **** you can do....it's cheap leather. I slather the meguiars gold class in there weekly, the spray and the lotion, and have soft wrinkled seats. Don't let me put on a NEW pair of dark blue jeans.....I can see the blue tint on the edge where I slide out the next morning. Unless you put a cover on the seat, defeating the purpose of leather....that's it. I sold a 2003 c320 sport that I might have hit with the leather cleaner 5 times in 5 years, plus it sat in Florida sun for 2....not a crack/wrinkle. Don't let I'd bother you.....

Yea i can tell it's cheap.I have a F350 dually with leather and i have 140k on it and the TAN leather is in way better condition than the Armada's drivers seat
Webturtle 09-07-2010, 05:25 PM If I'm not mistaken, just the "SEATING SURFACES" are leather. Sides and back are pleather as is the 3rd row seat. Yes, the whole seat is plastic in the 3rd row FWIW. Not sure on the Q though.

Yes your very right. The problem is the ''leather'' has come off on the driverseat. Not on the back but where your back rests.Which is supposed to be leather.
Leisina 09-07-2010, 06:16 PM As far as the leather they use these days....it's really bad quality and finish. As far as cleaners go..I use nothing in my detail shop but Malco Leather and Plastic cleaner, and Malco Leather Treatment. My mobile detailing van uses nothing but malco products as well....You can't get it over the counter...but if you get creative you can find a way to get it..The only thing thats not malco in my shop is the carpet extractor....thats a Cobra....FYI...just bragging i guess...lol
scot0410 09-07-2010, 09:35 PM Malco leather conditioner seems to use silicones which I try to stay away from. How are your longterm results?
I just switched to Leather Masters and am very pleasantly surprised with the results. I will use nothing else on my auto leather after using it.
9balllrook 09-08-2010, 11:08 AM I don't know who makes it for them, but Harley Davidson Leather Conditioner is some great stuff. It'll keep the leather mighty soft! Works good on jackets too!

I was refering to the pics W/the hole in the side whic I agree shouldn't have happened. The seat where it appears to be eroding, while I'd agree that shouldn't be occuring as well. Could it be something that is causing the premature breakdown of the leather, ie; holster, wallett, belt, key chain?
Leisina 09-08-2010, 01:56 PM Yeah thats true....the longterm results:?: $$$$$, cause I have alot of repeat business. In my opinion, leather is alot like human skin...condition it and moisturize it, and it will stay soft and pliable, resistant to cracks, wrinkles and wear. Doesn't matter what brand at the end of the day, it's how you do it and how often you do it....I've been tempted to use Oil of Olay on the seats sometimes...hehehehe

Nothing like that to rub it off.My wife mostly drives it and she aint even heavy enough to wrinkle the seats lol..The 2nd row middle seat on the bottom is coming off also.Nobody has even ever sat there.
As far as the hole is concerned the metal bracket inside the seat is what cut it.
