: Ordered the Active Tuning Ground Kit
adjmcloon 08-10-2005, 03:57 PM Hey all,
I went ahead and dropped the $50 on the Active Tuning ground kit for my Armada. From reading over at clubtitan M4ck was saying that he was seeing better starts and that the truck felt "crisper". I've got a bunch of aftermarket stereo stuff installed, so I figured it would be a good thing to beef up the electrical system a bit.
I'll let y'all know if it makes any noticeable difference.
TooTall 08-10-2005, 04:34 PM Definately beneficial for the "Big 3" upgrade if you havent already done that.
Dave@ActiveTuning 08-11-2005, 11:27 AM Interested in seeing how it works out for you in the Armada, as most of the buyers on the kit so far have been Titan owners.
adjmcloon 08-11-2005, 11:37 AM Sucks- I missed the group buy by like 2 days.
92TripleBlack 08-11-2005, 02:49 PM Give me the real deal about if these are snake oil or really work. I've heard both. ;)
aznwrr 08-11-2005, 05:13 PM I tested the grounding kit from Active Tuning in my FX 45. I can say it is worth it. I will get one for the Armada as soon as Dave hooks me up. :D The overall behavior of the FX was improved, not nec. more power but the electrics seem to work better. Firmer shifts, better throttle response and so forth.
BRE Armada 08-11-2005, 07:38 PM Since Dave is on this forum, I would like an explanation of why their oversized chassis grounds make a difference.
I would agree that they look cool, but after that I have some serious doubts, why would a very large gauge ground cable make a significant performance improvement compared to the factory electrical system?

Hey Ron,
We specifically wrote our product description to answer this question:
http://www.activetuning.com/products/nissan/multiple/NI-MP-04GRNDKT-TNAR/
Think about it this way...a manufacturer will spend as much as they can so it's good enough. If it costs Nissan let's say $1 more per car they sell to have heavier gauge wire as the ground for JUST the Titan and Armada. From 2004-July 2005 Nissan has sold 140,471 Titan/Armadas. They just saved themselves $140,471 from just two vehicles they offer.
I have some more info from an electrical engineering standpoint, but it's very technical and very in-depth. If you'd be interested in seeing that, let me know! Or if you have any other specific questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them.

I'd be interested. My dad can decypher that stuff. EE for 35 years building satellites. My specific question is:
Will it affect aftermarket stereos. Specifically, will it add, possibly reduce, or not change any engine whine in the system. I'm thinking of adding a system and engine noise is the number one concern for me right now.
Also, does it benefit G35S as well? Some guys on the G35driver board say yes, some say no.
Thanks
sinnerFA 08-12-2005, 09:15 PM I ordered the kit, I'll submit pics and feedback once I have some!
BRE Armada 08-12-2005, 09:19 PM Please forward your technical information, you are welcome to PM me. Although I am not an engineer, I spent 10+ years in the car audio business and know my way around 12V.
I also understand the importance of saving $$$ from a manuactures standpoint because of a discussion back in the 90's with Nissan regarding the cost differences with a soft back window vs glass window on the Z32 300zx's....$14 dollars per car that they were not willing to spend....
I will look forward to reading your technical information.

Don't forget Ford saying they would go with one bolt instead of two on the Pinto knowing they would have so many failures, lawsuits, and deaths, etc. and the cost would be less than doing it correctly.
crash4444 08-13-2005, 04:25 PM I ordered on on the group buy, it was a cheap upgrade and it looks nice, and my son talked me into it, he thought it would be fun for him to help me install. As for performance I will let you all know once I have it installed.

Cool. What color did you get? Red would look sweet on a Black Mada. ;)
adjmcloon 08-13-2005, 10:32 PM Got it installed..took about 30 minutes. The wire that hooks up to the alternator is a pain in the *** only because you have to jack up the truck to get to the bolt on the alternator (at the bottom).
I have to concur with M4ck- the truck does feel "smoother". I wouldn't say it's a huge difference, but what the hell, it's a cheap mod. :)
Overall I'd say it's worth it if you're a tweak head (like most of the members here...heheh) and like to mod your ride.
92TripleBlack 08-13-2005, 11:18 PM Cool. Thanks. Can you post a pick?
inqui-Z-tor 08-14-2005, 02:01 AM Yeah! Please post pics ... I'm ready to take advantage of the group buy .. deadline is the 21st .. I just can't decide on which color!!
manny0 08-15-2005, 06:38 PM got my kit today lets see what happens.
what color did you get?
i got blue
inqui-Z-tor 08-15-2005, 07:05 PM here are the colors ...
mannyo .. what color is your armada?

the color of my armada is smoke
crash4444 08-16-2005, 02:30 AM I remember seeing a modded out engine at a car show once and it had all these aluminized blue parts in there that just really stood out. Always, remember how nice it looked. So for no other reason I went with the blue, plus that is the color my son wanted so it beat out red, which generally would have been my first choice. Hell if I don't like the blue I will replace it with red, it is only money well spent on my Mada Beast.
manny0 08-16-2005, 07:23 PM Help Adding cable to back of the trans, I am not able to find the bolt that they are talking about on the trans, I found the exhaust grounding point but not the trans bolt point.

Have you seen this photo?
manny0 08-16-2005, 10:47 PM i have a 4 x 4. the photo for the 4x4 does not look them same.

Is yours like this?
manny0 08-16-2005, 11:16 PM Nope, I sure don’t have that big black thing on the back of my trans. very strange. did you do the install on your truck SCR38?

I haven't yet. My kit should be here tomorrow or Thurs. My Armada is a 4X2.

You should have something that looks similar on the drivers side of the transfer case. Look at the attached drawing. The transfer motor is part 40. See if you can put the ground cable on one of the bolts that hold it on, like part 41.
manny0 08-17-2005, 10:31 AM that should work
thanks a lot
crash4444 08-17-2005, 05:02 PM For those looking to order you have until August 21, to get in on the group buy $39.95 shipped. I ordered my on Saturday and it was shipped yesterday (Tuesday) Great turnaround. Also, received 3 emails since order keeping me informed of status. Don't know what to expect until I get it installed, but very impressed with the service. Why can't everybody realize that this type of service earns you business.
baseballfanz 08-25-2005, 01:50 PM Got mine installed yesterday on the Titan, emgine seems to fire up smoother, idle is also smoother and shift between gears seems smoother and a tad bit quicker. Active tuning website have good instructions but I followed QUIKWHIP advice over at www.titanspot.com for the 3rd wire, feeding it down from top is much easier than feeding it up from bottom.
http://www.titanspot.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=967
BRE Armada 08-25-2005, 02:05 PM Dave No PM :( I never heard back from you....
crash4444 08-25-2005, 03:34 PM I agree with the feeding the 3rd wire from the top, I actually removed my skid plate to allow me better access to try to push the wire upward with no success. Then the brain kicked in and I undid the wire from the alternator and pushed it down from above, then reattached to the alternator and was done. I emailed Active Tuning to suggest the change in the instructions.
inqui-Z-tor 08-25-2005, 04:09 PM Got my "kit" earlier in the week .. will be my weekend project ..
I got "silver" .. red was too red for the Red Brawn .. and while I liked the "blue" .. blue is the color I use in my Z ...
So I opt'd for silver .. besides .. grounds are typically black(?) unless house wiring (lol) .. and going w/black color didn't seem reasonable .. the wiring looks too good to cover it up .. so went the silver route ..
30mins,eh . ok .. being non-mechanical .. I'll plan on 1.5 hours .. lol!
armoody 08-26-2005, 01:47 AM Got my "kit" earlier in the week .. will be my weekend project ..
The race is on! Got mine today. Picked silver also. Didn't want someone to get red mixed up with + battery. Like blue, but nothing else is blue.
RougeQC21 08-26-2005, 10:21 PM Got my silver kit in today as well. Installed in an hour without a jack. I'm 17 so I just inch wormed under the truck while my friends watched. My dad seems to like, will see if he notices difference. I took it around and sure felt smoother shifts. All in all, well worth it.

No fair, I had to work today!
TooTall 08-27-2005, 03:18 AM I installed mine tonight. I didnt get a chance to drive it yet, but I did notice that the voltage drop isnt as noticeable anymore like I had before...
armoody 08-28-2005, 02:12 AM Got to last cable and the photos didn't match up. Compare to the active tuning website and this is a different transfer case. I used a smaller, longer bolt and had to bend the gold plated cable fitting 90 degress to make it work.
baseballfanz 08-28-2005, 02:52 AM The picture on the website I believed is of a Titan, are they difference from Armada? Your's 4x4 right?
llajumpvid 08-28-2005, 11:54 AM my 2x4 matched up with their photo.
armoody 08-29-2005, 11:38 PM The picture on the website I believed is of a Titan, are they difference from Armada? Your's 4x4 right?
I take it you're referring to my post - yes a 4x4 for sure. I would think they would be the same. I don't recall if the LE had some different 4x4 mode options than the SE and SE offroad or not, that could explain the difference.
I've got 2x, automatic (engages 4x4 as needed), 4 hi, 4 low
baseballfanz 08-31-2005, 12:25 AM Active tuning is very active over at the Club Titan www.clubtitan.org maybe you can give him a shot over there, he's pretty good at replying to post.

ggeorgie 09-01-2005, 01:43 AM I missed the group buy at clubtitan, is there any group buy for club armada coming soon again? :o
armagdn 09-01-2005, 03:46 AM thanks scr :D

No, we share our group buys between the two sites.
armagdn 09-02-2005, 12:02 AM i cant seem to find where the last 24" cable goes
"On the 4x2, the last 24" cable is an transmission ground. Look for a small bracket on the driver side rear of the transmission, and remove the upper bolt to install the cable:"
i go tthat from active tuning website, all the other cables are installed but havent found where to install the last 24" cable,
is it under the trans or top where the hood is?
thanks
scr38 09-02-2005, 12:08 AM Underneath the transmission, at the rear on the driver's side.
armagdn 09-02-2005, 12:24 AM so its on the other side of the exhaust?
mann i was looking under the hood the whole time :D
thanks scr
adjmcloon 09-02-2005, 03:54 PM It's further back on the trans where it mounts to the body. Probably 2-3 feet back from the front wheels in the center. You'll have to crawl under the truck for sure.
I can't get to the one on the alternator. I'm too big to get underneath without putting it on a ramp, and I don't think I can get to it from the top.
armoody 09-03-2005, 01:59 AM One thing I have noticed is definitely quicker starts with the ground kit installed. I think the starter has just that much more juice that it kicks over just so noticibly quicker.
armagdn 09-03-2005, 07:02 PM just finished installing the last 24" cable thanks for the help fellas :D
