I was having my tires rotated at 7,500 miles and noticed that the tread wear on my right front tire is wearing uneven. The best way to describe it is if you run the palm of your hand from the front to rear of the tire on the tread, your hand will get caught up at each knob. Sort of looks like a "step".

If you recall, my vehicle was involved in an accident back in Feb., and the frame needed to be replaced. Also, the accident area was in the right front part of the vehicle where this tire wear issue is taking place. According to the shop that performed the repairs on my vehicle, they said it aligned up perfect and within factory specs and that if anything was bent in the suspension, it would show up.

Is this true? If any of you have any experience, or know anyone with any experience with this sort of problem, please post and let me know so I can have my ducts aligned up when I go to this place.

I won't be paying out of pocket because my insurance company, USAA, warrants the repair for the life of the vehicle. I have since contacted them and they are aware of the situation. My vehicle is scheduled to be looked at August 16th.

I noticed on my front tires the same wear you have but I took it to the dealer and they advised they were ok. I then went on a vacation that was 3500 miles and I kept a watch on the front tires but the wear did not get any worse while on the trip. I had 8500 miles on the mada when I returned and I got my 7500 oil change and tire rotation. I would say unless you see a noticable amount of wear don't worry about it but keep a close eye on it. You could always go to an outside tire dealer for another opinion.

The thing that has me concerned the most, is that it is only the one front-right tire, and not the front-left. If both were doing it, then yes, I would be a little more at ease with the situation. Was it both of your tires or just one?

It was both but most was on the right front tire.

Sounds like residual damage from the accident, maybe from a used part. I'd take it to a dealer and have them run a diagnostic on it to get a "second opinion".

The tire abnormality that you just described I believe is called cupping but I am not quite sure. This is caused by a bad strut or shock or a loose strut. when you are driving with a bad strut your tires are bouncing on the pavement because the strut is not working along with your springs. your tires are not rotating smoothly on the pavement. You need to tell your dealer to check the strut. Check to see if it is leaking or if is loose. when they worked on your frame they had to pull everything apart and probably left your strut loose or it was damaged. don't worry this has nothing to do with alignment. You can perform a quick test yourself. go to the side of the bad tire and push your truck down once or twice. if your strut is good it will return slowly to it's original position within 1 second. if you notice that it hesitates or gets stuck on it's return to normal upward position then your strut is damaged or leaking or if you hear any clanking noises your strut is then loose somewhere. good luck

Thanks for the info. I will go check it out in a little bit. I looked at the strut when my tires were off being rotated, and all three bolts on top and the bolt on the bottom looked tight. I tried to wiggle it with my hands, but I know I can't even come close to putting the same amount of pressure on it with my hands that what it experiences on the road. I'll keep you guys posted on what they find on the 16th.

BTW I forgot to also mention that if the side you tested pushing down if it is too bouncy that's also a sign of bad strut.
