: Leaking coolant from tranny line connection

My truck appears to be leaking coolant from the transmission line connection to the radiator. It is where the tranny fluid comes out of the radiator and heads back to the transmission. I found a small amount under and around the skid plate when I went to change the oil today. I let it warm up and saw coolant leaking from this fitting. Has anyone experienced this? Does the transmission fluid just circulate through the bottom of the radiator? I wanted to loosen the nut to investigate but I don't have any good diagrams of the radiator and want to know what I'm getting into here.

first off i would clean the area up around the tranny line then change the clamp to worm type and then recheck it, also while your at it if you can change the radiator clamp looks like it seeping also according to pictures, if you change mke sure its cold!

Its not leaking from the hose or clamp. Its leaking from where the metal threads meet the plastic housing. It just looks a mess because I wiped everything down. I then let it warm up and could see it seeping from that point.

there is a seperate tank inside the radiator for the transmisson fliud to circulate thru, if you can loosen it have some teflon tape on hand to wrap around threads and a gasket for the fitting or get a new one before you do it

I had no idea there was a gasket in there. If that's all it is I'll be happy. If I pull that fitting out will all of my coolant run out?

Mine looked the same exact way, like it was coming out of the fitting. I changed the hose clamp about a monthh ago and have been watching it. So far it has been dry. I too did not know what to expect if I took out that fitting.

when you remove the fitting(if it moves) you will loose tranny fluid and antifreeze, why not try the tranny line first and put the worm type clamp on then if that dont work try the fitting(some members have done this very common)

I thought the smaller fitting was just for the tranny fluid? Why would you lose antifreeze?

thhere is a little tank inside there that allows that coolant to cool the trans fluid, that is why some cars either bypass this fitting to keep the trans cold(hot rodders) or run it in series with the fitting to have a little warmth on the streets

On our trucks it does not mix the two fluids?

ever remove the radiator cap and look inside and see strawberry float inside, guess what the tank inside either crack or broke

Luckily have never seen that but I see what you are talking about. This leaking issue seems to be common and caused by the spring clamps. I have to swap mine out as well.

Thanks to this thread it reminded me same issue last month I had a tranny fluid changed in a dealer. The adviser said there is a small amount of fluid leak forming on the said line. If hadn't been rushing, I would have requested for me to see the specific part(if I could fix it myself). If somebody would care posting some pictures I would appreciate it.

Is it possible to buy a replacement fitting? I can't find the part listed anywhere. I don't think a worm clamp will help because I'm losing antifreeze, not tranny fluid.

if you have a radiator shop try them if not you may have try the dealer, but try and see if the fitting(larger one) that butts against the radiator moves to loosen - GOOD LUCK!

My truck has to go in for a recall so I thought of having the dealer look at it but Im afraid they will try to hose me and tell me I need a new radiator.

I'm on rad #3 the first two developed a leak around the fitting. the fittings are just spun weld into the plastic tank and tend to crack around the fittings. two options: remove fittings from the rad and use a flexible, heat and solvent resistant epoxy type adhesive/sealant, or remove and replace the rad.

Thanks for that info. I'm checking on prices to just replace the radiator. I'd rather not fool around with the fitting.
