Hey guys, I am new here, looks like there is a lot of good discussion that goes on. I couldn't find an answer to this particular question so I hope I didn't miss it earlier.
I am towing a TT that is near the max towing capacity of the Armada. I would like to do some mods to the truck to improve towing performance but I am nervous about possibly causing more problems in long run. I already have a FIPK, thinking about a high flow exhaust, possibly a TB spacer?, and maybe a chip. My concern is that while I may get more power out of the engine, I will be over-torquing my drive line while towing that much weight and will be sorry in the long .
What are your expert or professional opinions???
Thanks

So long as you stay under the max limits of the Armada (GVWR, tongue weight, GCWR, etc.), you likely won't need to make any mods, the Armada is a very capable tow vehicle. If you're exceeding the Armada specs, then increasing hp isn't going to help you, you'll still be overweight.

I tow within the spec limits of the Armada, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for more oomfh. From a safety standpoint I believe I am good to go, now from a performance standpoint, can I get more out of it without doing significant damage to my drivetrain.
And in response to the tow package question, yes. The book limit on my truck is 9000#, while I tow right around 8500# when the trailer is loaded for camping. Makes for a slow ride to wherever we are going.

Add the PML transmission pan, and use 75W140 synthetic lube in the differential. This will help protect the drive train. For added power install the Doug Thorley long tube headers and a good cat back exhaust system and high flow cats in the B pipes. Replace the air filter element with an Amsoil EA dry type, then get UpRev tuning. This will give you a significant increase in HP and torque.

lovecamping,
I'm coming late on this one I know. I'm try'n to understand why you are look'n for more power? Looks like I'm in the same boat you are and personally I don't see the need for more power less'n you're in a hurry. How much faster are you gonna go & are you talk'n climbing hills? Personally I wouldn't do it but it'll go up most pretty steep hills at 60 in second gear at 5K on the tach. You feel'n lucky? That's a lot of heat in the engine, trany, and diffy but you could probably get away with it, not to mention the additional gas it's gonna drink. So back to the question, how fast do you wanna go?

The question is: Are you doing this to tow? or are you doing this for when you are not towing and just want to go fast
