Hey Guys,

I'm a first timer here and I tried the search but couldn't find anything on this issue. Everytime I drive the QX for an extended period time, I pop the hood and see antifreeze sprayed all over the engine bay. The truck is not overheating, and I checked the hoses and did not see any leaks. The truck is not leaking any fluid on the ground so it looks like its just spraying out from somewhere. It seems to be coming from the radiator neck and I'm thinking its the radiator cap, but I haven't had the patience to open the hood and watch it idle to see exactly whats happening. I hate smelling the antifreeze because it reminds me of my Acura Legend (blew the head gasket on it twice). Has anyone had this happen to them, and do you think it can be fixed by simply replacing the radiator cap? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryce

Is you QX56 running a little hot? It could easily be the radiator cap not getting a good seal. You can bend the tabs in a little on the bottom of the cap before you go and buy a new one. It solved the problem for a few already.

Also check the hose/clamp just below the cap on the neck. The spring type clamps don't hold well. That hose goes to the overflow tank, and is under pressure. Leaks there are common. Replace the factory clamp with a good stainless worm gear type clamp.

Welcome to CA professorbryce as was mentioned or you can ask the local garage to pressure test it to see where it maybe coming from, whatever you do dont do anything while the radiator is HOT

Thanks for the advice guys. The temp gauge is rock solid even when I'm hotrodding it (which I try not to do but that engine sounds soooooooooo good under throttle). I'll get under the hood this weekend and see if can put your replies to good use. Thanks again!

you need to check your fluid also, before you go empty and cause your engine too overheat. I would make the time to fix your truck before you are on the side of the road with a blown headgasket or worse.

Some of the radiator caps are bad. I went through 3 of them from the dealership until we got one that wasn't warped.

Also, only use a stock cap. Don't ever put an aftermarket one on that has a built-in pressure release. Our pressure release cap is at the overflow tank.
