Looking to get some good info from members with headers....like Manufacturer/part numbers, power gains, MPG differences, install cost/difficulty, CARB/emissions issues (Cali guys like me would appreciate it)

I'd like to get some headers/exhaust as one of my first mods but I've seen on the titan forums that some people recommend programming after to get the A/F ratio stable.....any one know about that?

I think the only headers with CARB approval are the JBA shorties, so you don't have much choice. You have to remove the stock primary cats from the manifolds and weld them to the JBAs. There is quite a bit of work involved. Gains will probably be in the 10-12 HP range. Tuning with UpRev won't be necessary with the JBA setup.
For maximum gains you need long tube headers, hi flow cats and a good cat back system, which will probably require UpRev tuning.

I did the DougThorley long tubes when my manifolds finally cracked. Really nice improvement on power, especially with my InJen intake. I'm working on the drone I get at hiway cruzin (70ish). Thinking maybe a magnaflow. I have the Gibson cat-back w/ custom b-pipes (thanks again Steve!!). I did use UpRev for tuning, and did a few runs on the dyno (because my mecanic has one) You can probably get a set of DT's from Connolly Holdings (he had a few the last time I spoke with him) for a around $600. Keep in mind, by the time you get, install, tune, etc you're looking at close to $2000.

and, by the way, I do pass Maryland emmisions along with passing everything else on the road, except gas stations!

Will DT long tubes bolt up to the oem b-pipes? Are there any modifications which need to be made when installing DT?

Thanks...

They will bolt up to the stock B pipes. You will have to move the O2 sensors to a point behind the B pipe cats to keep from getting a light. See attachment.

What type of cats do you recommend to replace the primary and secondary ones. Do you recommend using just secondaries while using the DT long headers? Thanks.

The stock cats in the B pipes will work fine. Yow will have to move the O2 sensors behind the cats.

If you want to sell your Gibson I'll take it

I just had the Stillen Long Tubes installed today allong with Magnaflow high flow cats and flowmaster 50 series mufflers. I left the tube diameters @ 2.5 and ran true dual swept out the stock side. Sound is fantastic, raspy from the headers, growl is fantastic out the side.

First thing I noticed was the pickup was better, I suspect the obvious that by sucking and pushing air more efficiently made that difference!

I have a volant CAI but the mileage and true HP gains won't be known until I get the truck on the dyno.

I will look into uprev tuning to allow for the more efficient air flow, but currently I'm loving the sound.

Pretty long drive, but we have a great tuner here (near Baltimore, MD). Hill's Garage, jsut got a new dyno as amatter of fact. And, he's an UpRev dealer. Been doing Nissans and Infiniti's for about 15 years.

I just installed a set of Stillen long tubes on my 04 Mada last weekend. The job is time consuming but not that hard. I started late Friday night by putting her on jack stands, removing the tires and wheel well plastic, removed the heat shields (wish I wouldn't have gotten rid of my metal nibbler), and coated all the manifold nuts with PB Blast. Saturday morning they all came off fairly easy which surprised me since I have 166K miles on her. The only nut that was a PIA was the drivers front bottom nut. The AC comp was just close enough to make it a little slow going but I got it. Everything was straight forward, direct bolt on-no mods. I was completed and test driving her Saturday evening. What a difference in sound! Removing two of those cats and adding these headers made a huge difference! Stock all the way back and it sounds like I upgraded the exhaust. Nice roar under accelleration and no drone. I'm tracking the mileage to see what type of difference it may make but it feels like it has more pep and certainly sounds like it.

These headers are a work of art; especially after seeing the crap I took off! I had so many cracks it was shocking. Stillen does a real good job and found their customer service to be very good. I had a few questions before I ordered mine and they were more than helpful.

I'll provide a mpg update if I find a change in either direction.

Hey thanks for the offer 9ball! Bit of a drive for sure, and I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of guys on the Titan board who may be able to help me out.

Day 2 and I'm loving the new system...Definitely has lots of attitude!!

Did the stillens have a hole for the O2 sensor or did you put the primary behind the secondary cats? Any service engine light problem? was it a direct bolt on without cutting or modifications? any pics? Price? thanks

Where did you install the primary O2 sensors?

Where did you install the primary O2 sensors?

The Stillens came with the 02 sensor hole already in the collector. It was a direct bolt on-no mods. It came with the emulator that prevents any codes due to removing the 1st stage cats but still allows for the sensors to do the other jobs. Although Stillen said that on my model/year I didn't have to have that installed they did say a few folks were getting codes about higher air flow and this emulator takes care of that so I installed it. Very simple, only really needed about a foot of length added which was more than enough. Maybe added 10-15 minutes to the install.

I'll try to get some pics loaded on plus maybe a sound clip. It sounds so good! Not to loud, not too soft, kind of an executive rumble if that makes sense.

Yep same here, the O2 sensor was plugged into the hole in the headers and I did move the Cat sensor since I redid everything all the way back. I have had no SES light issues and everything has been faastic.

In my situation, there is a drone at 60 and fades out around 68 - 70, but for me, I love the sound so it really doesn't bother me! Especially since I rarely spend much time at the 60-68 MPH mark anyway.

I've gone through 2 tanks of gas with the modified exhaust and I am currently seeing an average increase in gas mileage by about 1 to 2 miles per gallon. Given the tank size on the truck, I'm happy to achieve 30 more miles to a tank give or take, and of course the truck sounds very wicked. I love driving past an american built truck and having the drivers look twice not believing that a japanese truck can sound better than theirs!!

Next will be the uprev tuning as I think if I mash the petal and really let the horses breath, it hesitates just slightly twords the top of the RPM curve which I'm thinking is the motor leaning out a bit? Time will tell and once I get it tuned up I will be able to report more.

Eclipse man, would love to hear that sound.

Unfortunately, I live in California and have to deal with the California Air Resources Board (D.I.C.K.S. for short) so shorties is my only option otherwise I'll fail the visual portion of the smog test. I can't justify doing shorties, price vs. performance gains....

A good catback on the other hand I will do next

I've been through emmision testing twice with no problems.
