Does anyone know what I can use to clean the cloth interior??? We specifically got cloth because we have 3 kids and we didn't want them tearing up the leather. I know, I know - I should have gotten the leather package - too late and now the cloth is dirty. Help!!! :clueless:

Leather is more sturdy and tear resistent than cloth.
I had a Grand Cherokee I bought with 96K on it and leather seats that was owned by a couple with 3 kids all ages. The rest of the interior was trashed but the seats were in great shape.
Since you have them already, have them professionally cleaned, and then get them Scotchguard coated. Also, a home carpet cleaner vacuum will go a long way to cleaning stains. Sorry. Also, you can get wet Okole seat covers which are wet suit material, sturdy and resist tears and stains.
Hope this helps. ;)

You can still get leather. There are aftermarket kits. I had some put on my Xterra and they were about 3x the quality of what nissan put in my armada:(. 1st and 2nd row is probably about $900 to $1200 I'd guess depending on the grade of leather.

Water stains the cloth --- water!!! What was Nissan thinking? What was I thinking??? Because of the water thing I've been hesitant to let a detailer clean it without knowing what is safe to use. I really think I should just bite the bullet and get the leather kit like you said. The wheels may just have to wait a while longer....<sigh>

Did any of you pay the $600 to get the "Touch of Class" option? I did, and my cloth seats have a few dirty spots. They will not clean up, so the company that sells the "TOC" will be coming to my house next week to clean it for me. If for whatever reason they ca not be cleaned, the seat fabric have to be replaced. No charge. Curious if anyone else opted for this option. They also spray the outside of the truck to help in the shine factor.

Not a Nissan option. TOC must be a dealer thing. Never heard of it but it sounds like Scotchguard. The outside spray is BS. There are plenty of outfits that have this and it is only wax, but scotchguard is great. $600 sounds pretty high for scotchguard though but I don't know as I got the leather and hate cloth.

The $600 is going to pay off when they have to replace the DS armrest, and probably the 2nd row seat. I have 2 young kids, and they spilled something. I have tried to get it out, and no luck. If they can not clean it to my satisfactory, they replace the cloth. That might be a pain to deal with though. The outside spray is basically a clear coat finish. It is "supposed" to limit the amount of wax jobs needed to keep the paint in good shape. As far as the inside, the dealer took motor oil, dumped a glob onto a test cloth 1/2 covered in the protectant, and let it sit while we filled out the paperwork, after 20 minutes or so, the oil just wiped off the protected side, and had soaked through the unprotected side. Thought it was a pretty cool option, just for the kids sake. I may regret it after i find out what they do to clean it.

I just can't understand why they made cloth seats that water stains!!!! That makes no sense to me and I've looked through the manual several times and there are no suggestions as to what is safe to use to clean the seats. That's why I was hoping someone else had an idea.

Thanks 3Black! :hi:

You are over on the busy side of town!!! We considered moving to the west side because it's closer to my husband's office, but we are inching our way closer and closer to the beach (we were previously in Winter Park)! We love it over here because there is still a small town feel - for now anyway. One day we'll be beachside though!

We need to get a Central FL meet going!

Where in Windermere are you building? We've got some friends that live out there in Summerport I think the name is.

I love Mediterranean style homes and the models look amazing. The bathroom in the slide show is heavenly! It looks like they pay special attention to detail. It'll be well worth the wait!

Yeah, it should be. We're really excited and also frustrated they haven't started yet. We got a Lucca model, which is the one they photographed for all the pics in the slide show except the second pic, which is the exterior of another model. Good details, we added a large pool and turned a bedroom into a home theatre. Probably bump into you sometime. Orlando's not that big. ;)

Greengoddess - I totally agree with you. We have the cloth seats as well, and I totally regret not getting the leather. I have 2 kids as well. I am experiencing the same thing with water stains. WATER STAINS! I do not know of ANY OTHER CAR whose upholstery stains with WATER!!! UGGGHHH  I came up with a solution though! Want to know my secret??? This is a good one..... When there is a water stain, all I do is get a cloth and wet the entire area. That way the entire area has the water stain, and it blends in. I could not figure out what else to do. I know, not the best solution, but the only one I could come up with for the time being. I think we are just going to bite the bullet and get leather installed. :(

First of water stains because it is centrally located in one spot, and the fact that it dries slowly making it leave a brown water ring. If your seats are not really black with dirt or heavily soiled try using a damp white cotton cloth, like a wash rag, and wipe with brisk strokes over the entire area leaving the are visably damp. If the dirt comes off, then great, as the area dries it will dry with no visable water marks.
If that doesnt work, i recommend a dry foam, which you can purchase at most food stores, or walmart, k-mart, etc. do a test spot on an inconspicous area following the directions on the can. Dont over apply or make the seat area to wet, and keep yoru cleaning consistent over the entire seat so it will not have any water marks when dry. One tip here is to dry as fast as possible so use a hair drier on low setting or maybe a fan.
One other thing you can use is try a dry cleaning sponge or rag pretreated with dry cleaning fluid or solvent, or look for dry cleaning fluid in the store, use a white cotton rag and follow the instructions. Again test in an inconspicous area first, testing for color fastness and that the product you are using wont stain the fabric. I have personally used the damp wet cloth trick on my grey fabric Armada seat and it worked well, but the seats were not very soiled. Good luck. :noworries

Thanks for the advice Mike!! Yes, the clean wet cloth does work for smaller water spots. I usually just brisk the area with a wet cloth and then it just blends in. Sometimes, like I mentioned above, I will just wet the whole section to match :) HA HA. I have used a hair dryer to dry sections, and yes, that does work well. The spot will dry with no ring. It is just frustrating that water does this. Oh well, just like with gas prices, I just have to SUCK IT UP and move on! :)

Thanks Triple! I was going to do this anyway, but if we can save a couple hundred that would be great.

I got my samples in from leatherseats.com and they're very nice. The 3 row with the door inserts for the Armada is around $900 without the group buy, so maybe we can get it down to around $700'ish?

I would urge any members here to post your interest over there, or if you don't want to set up an account post it here and I will keep track. Or send me a PM.

I just had my "Touch of Class" guys come to my house and remove all but 2 of the stains on my cloth seats. They even got out water stains!!! As far as the 2 stains they could not get out, they took pics, and are going to have Nissan replace a seat bottom, and 1 of the arm rests. No charge to me, since I already paid the $600 for the warranty. The guys then "re-scotch guarded" the whole interior, carpet and all. Looks 110% better, like new. I was not home so i am not sure what they used, but i am going to call the guys and find out. I'll post what they used.

Water stains removed!!!!

Nissan makes a dry cleaning solvent which you can purchase at your local dealer in the service department. You can as i stated earlier purchase dry cleaning solvent at most local stores in your area. Always use a clean WHITE cotton cloth to clean your upholestery.

And I bet you those beautiful huge houses out there go for no more then like $300K!!!

I'm so jealous of Florida, Texas and other cheap housing markets. Then again I guess it's because hurricanes pretty much destroy everything in those areas every other year. :(

I was looking at some beautiful homes right on the beach in Florida for $280K!!! I can't believe those awesome prices....out here in CA you can't even find homes in that price range.

Not any more. That was 5 years ago. They started selling the one I'm building for $400 then. Now its about $1mm or so and climbing. Glad I got in early. Most 1200ft condos on the beach are well over $300 now, and they are just a box. ;)

California home prices are ridiculous! I was out in Concord a year or so ago, and I couldn't believe how much they wanted for a crappy little 1000 sq. foot, 30 year old house. I don't envy you.

TX is better, but it's going up. As for hurricanes, Rita just blew through here and damaged a lot of homes, but because a lot of people are displaced (apartment dwellers, mostly) the real estate market is suddenly hot as hell here. In Mississippi (Biloxi) I read that homeowners are selling their damaged houses for more than they could have sold them undamaged before Katrina.

Back on topic- for upholstery I've had excellent luck on the Nissan cloth by just using a damp rag around the cabin. It pulls up the water stains very well and obviously it's just water so no danger of discoloration.

Let me get back off topic for a second, what are the good places in Texas to live? Are there any areas that are somewhat green and lush??

I have been to Houston and Austin, and have actually thought about leaving CA and going somewhere cheaper that still has a decent amount of tech jobs. Since I'm in the technology field I would have to stay in a tech oriented area and also still need to be near some sort of water and mountains.

I know the only thing I hated about Texas was how flat everything was and the lack of "Greenery". I hear Oregon is really beautiful too but they have absolutely no jobs for my field of expertise. So I guess Texas would be the only other place I would think about moving to.

Any suggestions from the Texas guys on what area might be a nice place to look into? Because I sure as hell do envy your house prices and the lax take on pollution when it comes to supped up cars! ;)

You'd love Austin/central Texas. Tons of tech jobs, lots of green, beautiful, hilly scenery, and the prices are very reasonable. You can get a very nice, newer (5 year old) 3/2/2 for around $125k. A mansion style, 3000 sq. ft home can be had in the 200's. Brick homes, on a slab, concrete drive, nice yard, etc. Take a look around San Marcos (30 minutes from Austin and 45 minutes from San Antonio). The spring fed rivers are the bomb in the summer- fun to swim and float. I'm planning on heading that way in a few years myself. North Austin is nice- Dell is located in Round Rock which is right there.

Oh, and Texas has no state income tax, and the property taxes aren't terrible (yet).

What color are your seats? I've had a little luck using the damp rag method but I still have some small water spots.

I have the steel cloth interior. The cloth stains pretty much anytime it gets water or sweat in there. My armrests need wiping down at least once every few weeks, but the damp rag trick works every time. I scrub the armrests pretty good and the rag is damp (not too wet).

I do have some stubborn stains that I am having trouble with- but mostly they're on the plastic. I'm thinking of trying some simple green (diluted) on a rag.

I've got the graphite interior, maybe having the really dark cloth explains why I've still got a few spots. It looks so nice when it's clean though!!!

BTW...I used the windex multisurface on my plastic last week and it worked great! No spots anywhere.
