: "Big Tow" mirrors available for the QX56?
Feets 04-27-2011, 07:18 PM Just got a travel trailer last weekend. Didn't take many miles to realize that the strap-on tow mirrors I had weren't going to be the best long-term solution. I've seen a number of comments from folks on the Armada side of the house about their getting the big, slide-out Nissan tow mirrors.
Called the local Infiniti parts department, was advised that no such mirror is available for the QX56. Called a Nissan dealer, was advised that any body part, mirror, etc. would have to come from Infiniti, that those parts are NOT interchangeable with the Nissan.
Does anyone know if there does happen to be an Infiniti tow mirror, and, if so, the part number?
Or, has anyone bought the Nissan tow mirrors and put them on their QX? If so, was the installation straight-forward, or did it take some drilling, etc.?
Thanks!
frankenrover 04-28-2011, 09:13 AM Hello! I just got a travel trailer a few months ago as well. Tows great! I have been looking at tow mirrors for awhile now and I think as long as you have the regular mirrors they are interchangable. I found a couple different options. Infiniti makes an original you can get from the dealer but they are pricey! Of course they want to install them for lots of extra $$$. I found this place selling them cheaper. http://infiniti.sewellparts.com/ but if they really are interchangable I know lots of people get the titan mirrors from http://www.courtesyparts.com/
I went a cheaper and non oem route all together and got some from ebay from Racingguys. They are listed as fitting armada and the qx56. They are in the mail now and I will let you know how they work out when I get them put on! Just search qx56 tow mirrors on ebay and lots of options pop up even some oem ones.

Are these replacement mirrors, or mirror extensions? I haven't found a clip-on mirror yet that worth a darn, and because of the design of my garage (single door opening), adding Big Tow mirrors isn't an option for me. Other than the McKesh strap-on mirrors, I haven't seen any other options, so I'm very interested in what you're getting.

Sorry I should have been more specific. They are replacement extendable big tow mirrors.
oshweeken 04-28-2011, 03:11 PM The parts will interchange from the Armada and Titan, you will loose the electronic folding ability, auto dim, and possibly heated, electronic adjust.
Infiniti and Nissan are retarded!

So the mirrors arrived on friday and I went to install them on saturday. To my suprise I found the connector for the mirrors are not the same. The qx56 has about a 16 wire connector with all the wires being used and the Tow Mirrors look to have a standard nissan 6 or so wire connector. My first thought was to hack up the connector and make it work but with some investigation it looks to be a pretty complex circuit which involves things like the rear lift gate. With the mirror unplugged many electronics inside the car do not work and doing it that way seems to be a lot more effort than I want to put into it. So I contacted the people who sold me the mirrors and am waiting for them to get back to me. So are there 2 different connectors for the armada se and xe as well or are they the same?
oshweeken 05-02-2011, 10:27 PM Like mentioned before Q has auto dim, folding, heated, power left, right, up, down, plus turn signal arrows,
That is 8 positive wires and most likely they will have 8 negatives therefore adding up to 16
The Armada has less features therefore less wires, you can use a volt meter and check which wire is for what
There are 2 different options on the mirrors. One package is heated the other package is with the "Memory". The "heated" only has the smaller plug, the "Memory" package has the larger plug...they are NOT interchangeable. Other than this, I would think that you could use the "Memory" package BT mirrors on the QX. Frankenrover, you might want to see if you can send them back for the other option, or see if you can get the other option.
frankenrover 05-04-2011, 11:44 AM Thanks for the info Taze! I am in the process right now of making a schematic. The circuit is not as complex as I thought. Turns out I blew the interior light fuse when taking apart the door panel. It also controls the movement of the mirror, and the rear lift gate. I thought when I unplugged the mirror I lost those functions as well. I was having one of those days!!
Do you know if the memory function isnt important to me can I splice up the harness and still use the mirror movement function without the memory? The memory is very interesting how it works and I wonder what will happen if the computer isnt gettting its readings back for the memory of the mirror.
oshweeken: There is only one negative wire. All the other 15 wires have a + function.
frankenrover 05-05-2011, 09:02 AM Got one mirror on and wired and is working great. I may get a few hours tonight to get the other one on. When I do ill post some pics and the wiring diagram.
julesva5 10-04-2011, 08:11 AM Frankenrover - I'm looking to do something similar. Did yours work out? Can you post pics and wiring diagram?
