: Topspeedlimiter
Andreas 09-12-2005, 03:46 PM Hi there!
I´m new here and ready to a QX56 to ship it to Germany.
Does anybody have an idea, how to get rid of this topspeed-limiter?
Once I owend Tahoes. For them I cound buy a Hypertech computer.
Is there anything simular for the QX?
scr38 09-12-2005, 03:50 PM Nothing on the market now. There are units being developed that may let you change/eliminate the limiter, but at this time you can't do anything about it.
Andreas 09-12-2005, 05:28 PM Thank you for the quick answer.
Hope there will be somthing soon...
92TripleBlack 09-12-2005, 06:23 PM 114 mph is it. Not as fast as you want but its still a safe speed on the autobahn. ;)
SilverQShip 09-13-2005, 02:23 AM The car supposedely does have a governor(to 112 mph) but i have a qx56 so does my friend and we both dont have limiters in our cars, just drive one and see if you can push it past the 112mph. O yea tell us the top speed since you drive on an autobahn (130 for me too scared to go any faster).

I guess you´r right. It´s just that I do not want to be interrupted by a limiter while I´m passing...
Anyway, today I´ve purchaised my "new" XQ, a 2004 black fully loaded from
a small dealership in Orlando FL.
I´m kind of cerious - but have to wait 2-3 more weeks untill it gets to Germany.
I will tell you then, how it goes on our Autobahn.... :nana:

Cruise can't be used on my G35 that high either. I tried at 122 mph. ;)

Yes - Just as it states in the Owners Manual.
SilverQShip 09-19-2005, 11:04 PM Lol, cant believe you guys tried cruise at that speed

Well, when you're driving for an hour and a half at that speed, it gets tiring and it also makes it easier to dial when you are on cruise. ;)
It would get ugly if one of those high quality Contis blew at over 100. Already have bubbles in them sitting still.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think I've broken 90 in the Mada. Tires aren't the best. The G35 has Bridgestone Pole Positions so it rocks. ;)
FL_Crushin 09-22-2005, 12:02 AM Had a 328 and set the cruise at 110 driving through Colorado and whatever state is next to it heading to San Diego via Las Vegas. Hit something too... not sure what. Whatever it was it wasn't alive much longer. Shweewh... didn't scratch the car. Felt like cruising at 65. Just me and the stars and a solid white line down the middle of the road (used to be hashmarks).

Yeah, I hit a bird at over 90 and it just exploded into a cloud of feathers. Nothing left to hit the ground.
As for the top end limiter, I think I figured out why 112 mph. The Contis are rated S for the speed rating, which is 112 mph.
SilverQShip 09-22-2005, 02:17 AM G35's are good to thrash around, I took an m3 Cabrio on with a loaner 05' G.
donho 01-10-2006, 11:53 AM 112 is max. I tried it many times. I know this is a large SUV, but it can handle a little more then 112. Unichip makes software for it, but reports say it is worthless. I guess we have to live with it.

proautoman makes a chip also. The limiter is there because the tire rating is 112mph. Go faster, shred the tires. Get faster tires and the chip and stay on a race course or in the AZ desert, etc. if you want to go faster. ;)

Neither of these units remove the limiter.

Do you really believe that???
The cover car for BF Goodridge Drag Radials is Dwayne Gutridge's Mustang. It has run as fast as 7.70at 180 range. Do you know what front tires he uses???? Pep Boys specials!!!! They cost 24.99 each and have no speed rating. He has yet to blow one out. Speed ratings are ratings for sustained speed. I do not plan of cruising my QX at 130 for any period of time. I would just like the ability to go faster some of the time. My ML55 would go as fast as 152. I just want the ability to go fast sometimes

I agree with you that a tire can probably go faster than rated. However, Nissan has to protect itself. If they put 112 mph tires on it, and one in 10000 blows because the speed was exceeded, they are liable. There isn't anywhere to go 112 for normal people so its good prevention and policy. But I doubt the tire will shred if you hit 113 for a few seconds and doubt more the Pep boy special story. ;)

Are you serious? Big Daddy Gutridge uses BFG's all around. There's no such thing as a Pep Boys unrated tire.
I hope you are messing around.
donho 01-11-2006, 01:04 AM Dwayne is a friend of mine. I assure you, he uses Pep Boys 165r/15 radials
The are for old VW Bugs. They do not make them anymore and are limited to stock on hand. He prefers the radial fronts to drag front runners. Infact I have a set of his old Weld Magnums and guess what radials are on the front 15x3.5 rims???? Pep Boys specials!!!
BFG doesn't make that size. I had a Street Bandit Mustang that ran 8.80@154. Do you know what my front tires were???? Pep Boys specials. You would be surprised on how many fast cars use these tires. Drag slick and front runners are never speed rated. Look for yourself. Here is a pic of my SB Stang. Zoom in and see the Pep Boys tires:

Wow, I'm impressed on the Pep Boy specials. Pulling 8's at 150! That's fast!
Don't know Big Daddy personally, but envy what he's done out there.
I do know the Snake from 35 years ago. We grew up in Chatsworth.
92TripleBlack 01-11-2006, 01:24 AM I would guess most tires would last a quarter mile. But I'd bet they would rupture if you went any real distance on them at that speed. ;)

I have to agree. I can say that when I had a daily driver stang, I raced it to Atco one day down the turnpike and sustained speeds of 120-130 for an extended period of time. Think about it. Dragslicks and Drag Front runners are not speed rated at all. Top Fuelers are in the mid 300mph range. Outlaws are running over 200mph on a 10.5 in slick!!!! All on bias ply, non speed rated tires.
I just wished there was no limiter. I am sure my Q would be able to break 120-125.

I have known Dwayne since he was racing on the streets.
That silver cars was a handful to drive. It had a stock suspension and a 5 speed clutchless GForce tranny. Grip and rip! Motor dyno'ed 816 with only 396 cubes. Here is my current drag car. This is the reason I bought my QX, to tow with:

I've left a little rubber on Street Night down there at Atco Raceway back in the day with my '67 Mustang. Those were the good ole' days.
92TripleBlack 01-11-2006, 09:56 PM I was an Englishtown guy. ;)
Marcellaus 01-11-2006, 11:04 PM I have to agree, that the Governor sucks (Arnold & the one that limits my Mada)
On New Years Day, I drove up to Vegas from Long Beach @ around 11pm. Somewhere on the I-15, close to 1am, a 2006 Jetta, 05-06’ Nissan Murano, 04-05’ Pathfinder, and myself engaged in a 30-mile run. The Mada would pull away from the pack EVERYTIME @ around 70ish, but near 110mph that dam Murano would slowly close in, pass, then leave the freakin pack! The Jette wouldn’t pass anyone; limited by conscience/balls/safety/maturity/(u fill in the blank).
Many times, the Pathy & me would be side-by-side cycling between 112-114mph. My position for 2nd varied on when I accelerated/decelerated against the Pathfinder. But what truly sucked is that my wife looked me in my eyes, paused for 3-seconds, then said, “ I thought you said this truck was fast? Your Accord V6 was faster than this”. And she had a point that pierced my ego. Yes, we would cruise at 140mph* in that dam Honda. I explained to her that every carmaker would cut certain corners to keep cost down & profits up, and in this case it was those cheap *** tires. And the tire wasn’t rated above 112mph, yada, yada, yada. She just nodded & said, “OK whatever”.
*On a very leveled pavement, with the wind & a prayer against my back.
92TripleBlack 01-11-2006, 11:30 PM Honda's aren't fast either. ;)
scr38 01-12-2006, 12:02 AM Fast is relative. My youngest son raced a 1.5 L Honda Civic in SCCA. His class would not allow any internal engine mods. You could change the intake, exhaust and ignition (which we did). That little Civic ran 131 MPH. Not bad for a 1.5.

My 2002 Accord V6 only had AEM CAI/Tanabe CBX. It's was punchy, but the Mada w/ True Flow & Gibson has a bit more kick from 0 to 114mph. Just miss blowing pass the 130mph barrior. Actually, I don't think I would want to break 120mph in the Mada w/o upgrading the suspension & tires.
