: Radiator hose
aleqx56 12-19-2011, 01:11 AM What up guys, I've noticed a little problem I have with my radiator hose on the beast, at least it looks like a problem to me, where the fat hose coming from the radiator ( top ) is sort of squish a lot times, and noticed it a lot on cold weather I'm in Charlotte nc, so temperature here are now at about 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, at least during night times, I have to lossen the radiator cap to let the hose get back to normal... Any idea why that happens, hope is not bad..

You don't have enough coolant in the system and it sucks it in

suddenurge 12-19-2011, 09:34 PM As far as I know, it's normal to have that hose collapse after the engine is shut off for a certain period of time.

Yeah, Now that u say it, The beast was at the driveway since Friday until Sunday night, and I never noticed it when I use it like every day, today I checked it late at night after driving it all day and it was ok, I'll check tomorrow morning when I change my oil, maybe the hose will be all flat since is gonna be still all night.. So anyways is this bad or no, I heard it could be the radiator cap, or the reservoir cap.. Omg...

Boland01 12-20-2011, 09:30 AM I had the same thing. It could be your overflow cap is bad. Mine started overheating randomly too and I ended up replacing the overflow cap and radiator. That was last June and I haven't had any issues since then.
KingRJ 12-20-2011, 01:05 PM You have a bad Radiator cap! The cap should allow expansion into the overflow tank when hot and return into the cooling system upon cool down, what you have is a VERY common problem with alot of closed systems...when the cap fails it allows expansion under pressure but does not allow coolant to return. Replace the cap with a quality part(not Nissan) and your problem will go away. BTW when you open your cap to allow hose to expand you are slowly running your cooling system low....thats why the bottle is so full:) You will also correct a coolant leak that you may or may not have yet from the OE cap.

That good to know.. How can I take out a bit of coolant out of the reservoir tank.. And where can I get a quality radiator cap, cause i was just going to buy it straight from Infiniti... thanks for the help...

Well I bought the radiator cap from stant, it said high quality replacement radiator cap for QX56, says to withstand 42psi, I hope is good.. Cost 13 bucks with shipping and handling... U think maybe I should buy the reservoir cap?

KingRJ 12-21-2011, 09:48 AM You shouldn't need expansion tank cap they really don't fail too often.

Alright cool man, I really appreciate all the help.. And to everyone else..

suddenurge 12-22-2011, 10:22 AM The hose collapse has nothing to do with the radiator cap. The radiator cap has no spring in it and has no function other than for filling the radiator. The reservoir cap controls the pressure and requires more pressure than it takes to keep the hose from moderately collapsing after the system cools. The upper hose is very soft and doesn't take much vacuum to collapse it.

Good, accurate info!

Yeah that is true, the hose sucks, where can I get a quality hose, not that weak one
