Cats,

3100 miles into the 2012 Qx, I have that musty mildew smell coming from the evaporator. it only smells a few times when the ACCS kicks in. I use auto recirc so when it "sniffs" odors it automatically goes into recirc mode.

it does not smell all the time, just certain times. i know this is due to the evaporator and how it breeds bacteria.
there is this product, http://www.detailersdomain.com/1Z-ei...aner_p_78.html , that is raved across the interwebs.

im going to use it, but im curious about the IONIZER aka plasmacluster system thats installed. I wonder if spraying this foam into the vent thats directly going into the evaporator will affect the plasmacluster system?

i dont think it will.. i think the evaporator is in there by itself and that environment is designed to have moisture--this is where the drain hose is and where the water drips out to the street--but just wanted to see if i can spark up some dialog here with other new gen qx-ers out there.

have not contacted the dealer yet as they will do a similar thing (spraying some stuff into the vent) and charge much extra for this service.

so have any of you had this smell crop up?

ive said a lot of stuff here but my main question is will spraying this evaporator cleaner into the evaporator box affect the ionizier/plasmascluster system? me thinks not but wanted to see what others would have to say...

thank you...

That is the evaporator, not the condenser. The condenser is in front of the radiator.
Be sure to remove the filters before attempting to clean the evaporator. Also you can kill bacteria in the intake by spraying something like Lysol into the intake at the base of the windshield, on the passenger side, while the blower is on high.

If you spray Lysol I think will do the trick

my bag on the name. thanks for the clarification.

yeah ive read about lysol. it wont kill the bacteria just remove the smell. the smell is not crazy but i can "smell" and smell. air should just smell fresh not have a scent. :)

im just trying to nip it before it gets bad.

my concern is if it will harm the ionizier system by spraying this foam cleaner into the evaporator :D

ive sent an e-mail to the developers of the product. will see what they say if anything.
