Want some advice.....looking at an 04 qx with 117k miles and is flawless except a couple minor sings. Interior is nice. Loaded with every option available. 4wd. Pearl exterior.

Private seller asking $14,750. In my area its a great deal. Clean carfax. Current owner bought it with 95k.

Your thoughts ......what should I look for when I go to test drive?

Thanks.

That's an awesome photo of the Maxima. Where was that taken? Cool backdrop.

The QX with 117k miles for close to $15k seems a bit high I think. I'd say keep looking for a better deal, maybe at a dealership that offers at least a 1k mile warranty. Good luck with the search.

Man I've been doing a 250 mile search for weeks now and this is the best deal for year, miles, options, 4wd and price! I'm even having trouble finding an LE armada with same options for 14,700 so why not get a qx instead of a mada if the price is right.....

Seems a tad high considering the miles, if you can jump on it for under 14k might be a decent deal. Ive looked around my area for good deals on QXs, for around that price they usually have a lot of miles but being Nissans Im sure they can go for miles

I love white....see if you can haggle with the price!

The only problem I have with this is it's a QX very old and it has a lot of electric things that can go bad. If it was me I would get an Armada SE model not a lot that can go wrong with it

I have a veteran nissan mechanic that works on my maxima and he says all i really have to look out for is the headers (qx or mada), if the check engine light is on, runs good and shifts good....I havnt seen this qx yet in person but I plan to soon if they can meet half way or so...they are about 3.5 hours away. Here is the link to the QX...

the mileage doesn't scare me at all, I think most of these engines are just broken in at 100,000 as long as they were properly maintained. And, BTW I think that QX looks to be in pretty good shape.

i still stand by what i posted.

the early first gen models had some serious defects and there were HUGE improvements in the later years (06 and up). plastic interior had squeals, sounded like mice were having sex behind the dash, etc..

it seems you are trying really hard to justify the car and if you really want it then go ahead and grab it. you are the one who will be driving it and not us.

i think most of us are giving you our honest opinion on this model, especially if you have been on this forum for any length of time, you can recall all the issues of the first gen models.

i would at least get a 06 model.. nissan got the car right by then. :D

i have an 06 with 96 km and the only problem i've had was a transmission leak which was covered by warranty and the door/windows making noise but they were all fixed. however, i happen to have a a/c rear line leak which i still have not fixed yet and infiniti doesn't want to do it either lol. also, my power tail gate sounds like a bracket screw fell off, so it pushes against the rear panel. other than that, i love the qx. plus, you get the power folding mirror so go with an 06...

Cueto, buy what you want, ALL cars have issues(keeps me working) dont be swayed by peoples opinions obviously maintenance could be an issue but trust your gut...you will get a feeling when you meet the owner of how well the car was taken care of...btw looks like a sweet ride!

I agree!....and I value everyone's opinion. I feel the same way, all vehicles will have issues...and I've researched A LOT and am aware of the few issues with the 04-05 mada and qx, however for my current budget I need to stay with an 04-05 maybe an 06 with high miles, but I wanna keep my maxima so my budget is what it is...

I'll tell you a story I love BMW so one day I saw this beautiful BMW 735 il it had 312k and a salvage title everyone told me don't get it, but I decided I want it. So I payed $2300 for it and got it. I drove it for 2 years and then sold it for $2500 and in all this time all I did was change the thermostat.

The main issues that the 04-05 models had were the brakes, and occasional electronic lift gate gremlins. As for electrical problems, both the Armada LE and QX56 came in with very few. At 117k, that averages out to be 14.5 miles a year, which is not bad. The thing I would look into if you are serious about buying it, maintenance records which most Infiniti owners keep, since Infiniti is very anal about keeping them in order to honor warranty repairs. Look at whether is smokes on start up, while idling, and while running, blue and white smoke are a no-no, walk away from it. Also look at the dash see if the Service engine light is on, see if it has a crack on the exhaust manifold, that will run you some serious money to fix. Take it for a test drive, does it stutter on acceleration, does it feel like there is a slight slip, it might be the bushing on the control arms are worn down and they need replacement, I have been there with my upper ones. Check to see if the Auto, 4hi and 4lo work, simply engage them, make sure the 4x4 light does not blink when engaged. I would have loved to have gotten the fold away mirror option in my 05, but was not offered till 06, it is something you can live without, but if you must have it can be put on. Look at the oil dipstick, and see if the oil is really black, and if it smells bad, these are signs of bad maintenance. In the long run, if budget is the main concern, buy it, if you can wait to find something a little better then do that as well. As with all used cars, they look like gems on the lot or someones else driveway, it is a chance we all take, some have been good ones and others have been bad ones. Used cars can have there horror stories, and others have good ones, it all depends in the long run if the used is more often in the shop than you enjoying it out on the open road, just look for obvious signs, in the long run we will all be here to help with any questions you may have. Good luck with the purchase or search.

I just got my 2007 with 101k for $20.5k. It has $700 or 800 in problems I didn't know about, but which the dealer quoted $4000 to fix, which is a complete joke. Like $1400 for a radiator (I will do for $140), $560 for a rear air compressor, ($257 done), and $130 for cabin filters ($12), and $60 for air filter ($32 for a k&n). They want $530 for spark plugs. That actually does look difficult. $170 for a belt that is nearly new (doesn't need it), about $1000 for trans & diff services (all of which are already done at half the recommended intervals per their own records - priceless).

I'm not at all impressed with corrosion control on these vehicles. I let go of my 2002 range rover, and it did not have ANY corrosion anywhere, except the exhaust had some surface rust, and it had some rusty bolts on the brush guard. And I drive in the salt. The body had absolutely NONE, as in ZERO corrosion even starting anywhere. The underside of my QX has rust starting on some of the body seams. Rusty bolts, nuts and other fasteners everywhere. They sprayed on some undercoating here and there, but it looks like they didn't even try compared to the Rover, and missed some seams entirely, or just grazed them. On the Rover, body seams are totally sealed on both sides. They do a fabulous job.

I do like it, but if corrosion is any indication, its a really sub-par vehicle in that regard. You might be OK in Nashville. It might be worth a trip to Arizona or California if you want rust free though. If I had a new one, I would use a really heavy undercoating and do all of the places Nissan didn't care about.

Thanks for the info nazdackster. Something else I need to look for when I go check out this qx in Nashville. Where are you located to have rusting issues?

I have an 04 mada with 165k miles on it SE off road. Runs great but 14k is about a grand two steep. Dealers are willing to give me 8k on mine.

If the QX56 is what your looking for, I would get it. But try to get them to drop the price a little, don't settle for a SE armada.
You might want to look to see if the QX56 has brake issue (ABS), or a crack manifold, Evap canister valve issues. That's just some of the minnor thing I would look out for. But your taking a risk when buying with alot of miles.

GOOD LUCK!

Why is the person selling the vehilce. They purchased it will a lot of miles and already are selling the vehicle. The vehicle may have issues. Have an inspection done by an Infiniti dealer before you even consider this vehicle. Then if it is fine, back off a power train warranty (about $2,500) from Car Chek
