Stumbled on Nissan Saudi Arabia website and Nissan list the Armada with 340 HP.

They use a different rating system. Same power. ;)
From another site:
Short answer: No difference. If you check the web site you will see that the horsepower on the Middle East model is rated and stated as 340 hp SAE Gross. That is not the same as SAE Net, which is how horsepower is listed in the US. SAE Gross 340 would work out to be consistent with SAE Net 305.

I had a little, light, quick musclecar back in 1970. It was rated at 275 hp. That was SAE Gross in those days. When the same engine was rated at SAE net, the numbers fell to 245.

Now, that little car had way more actual horsepower than its rating, either way. They kept the numbers artificially low for insurance pricing purposes.

The Armada engine and the Titan engine are identical, and I have no reason to believe that the Middle East Armada's engine is any different than mine here in the U.S.

Given the performance level of our trucks, it may well be that our engines are a little under rated, under either SAE rating system.

I am affraid TripleBlack is wrong on this one. What you have seen is the Expat version to allow them to out run the terrorists :nana:

Also the warm balmy air of the Magic Kingdom allows our Armadas to run much faster than your American ones :moon:

Actually TB is right.....maybe.....read an interview with some Nissan big wig who said there can be upto 500 differencies per model in vehicles sent to the Middle East.

I hate PC crap also. But Clu258 is from Saudi so I understand his concern. Generally though I like to keep my non PC comments for face to face encounters. Ticks people off more. Merry Christmas everyone! ;)

Now I think I remember reading about this, I believe gross was without any parasitic accessories (alternator, PS,AC....etc). SAE net reflects the true real world output with all the power consuming accessories. I must be really stupid or really smart or maybe a bit senile because I think I just answered my own question, duh. :duh:

You did answer your own question, and very well. If you check that web site very carefully, you will see that the measurement is SAE GROSS, while in the US, the measurement is made at SAE NET spec.

Same engine. Same exhaust. Same intake. Same ECU. Same horsepower.

Even though they are the same, both are underrated.

I am from Bahrain and I was going to raise the same issue (340HP). Can anyone contact Nissan factory in US to sort this doubt out? I think that will solve our issue. just an idea ... no hard feelings all,, we all share the same car but from different cities and countries. I was in US for 4 years and I know that the Americans like to joke around. Stay cool all.

Yeah, no difference. Just a different rating system. There is only one assembly line and one set of mechanics going into all the Madas, QX and Titans.

I'm from NYC and so I'm even more prone to poking fun. Americans love their freedom of speech. We also react pretty strong against having someone try to take that away.
One of my favorite quotes: "Political correctness is tyranny with manners."-Charlton Heston. Basically look at it this way. Were you physically injured or just insulted. Insulted is not anything that is worth worrying about. Just insult back and get it out. Someone hitting you over the head with a pipe wrench is. More often than not, insulting is a form of flattery or bonding. I wouldn't insult anyone in person who I wasn't familiar with, but my buddies rib on each other continuously. Great laughs. That's more the atmosphere here. ;)

Furniture. My house will be built in Sept. Looking at a couple of Natuzzi Pit couches, Alfresco BBQ, TVs, Desk for the office, etc. For the Mada, Stainless bug guard, grille, and tint. May also pick up an AR15 for giggles.

Go for the AR-10 (its .308 instead of .223). I am getting one of those next. Sounds like a fun birthday!

This has to be a joke right? clu, are you actually upset about the fact that the camel is probably more prevalent than the horse in Saudi Arabia, therefore people here make reference to that fact? I mean its obvious to me that it may take 340 camels to equal 305 horses... ;)

And hey, my '07 has 317HP! Woohoo!!! Now what is that in CP? About 352?

just a note regarding our ECU in middle east,,,it is not fully OBDII,, and emission system is not the same.. in Bahrain we use 97 Octane for fuel. I am sure our armada is faster than the US ones. Oh,, regarding making fun of other countries,, just make sure who you are talking to first ( like me I am coool and like to joke around and I was in the states for 4 years, so I know the Americans very well...other people don't like to talk about their countries or even their camels...lol stay cool all.

???? ???? how would 97 octane replace the need for the advance? You can get 97 at stations all over FL. At least you could when I lived there

I am going crazy with the speed right now trying to make my mada so fast so it will take me less time to travel to the states and see you guys for mada meeting...lol I may be not here but i am watching all...lol stay cool and be happy. oh,, wanted to tell you long time ago,, that i want to make my car looks just like yours (grill )it looks really cool. I will get it in the furtue after I am done with all the performance mods first. after one week i will post a new modd for the keyless entry pad... I will post it in both clubs armada and titan.. it is gonna be a cool modd...wait and you will see how smart that modd is..hope it work...lol take care.

Hi Qaher. Good to see you hanging around with us.

A couple thoughts.

1. The horsepower ratings are international standards, not something unique to American vehicles. The US uses SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Net Horsepower. Saudi Arabia chooses to use SAE Gross Horsepower, so Nissan rates the same engine according to SAE specs for gross output. But the engines, ECU's and all are the same. They come off the same assembly line here in my home state, Mississippi.

2. Looking at the impressive list of mods on your vehicle, especially the long tube headers and aftermarket intake and exhaust, it looks like you would really benefit from the UpRev ECU reflash. It has been producing some real gains and is probably my next mod (with long tube headers) even though I will probably stay with quiet intake and exhaust.

I realize your headers are Stillen, and that they are about to release their own tuner ECU, but those UpRev results really look tempting.

Why do so many people here say what they think and pretend it's facts they know?

The GCC Armada's and US models have the same physical ECU, but the software is different to take advantage of the better fuel they use (as someone said). The software is aiot more like QX56 than Armada.

Try saying things like, "I think..." or, "I bet..." or "Maybe..." sometimes before too many people think you have facts.

So how do you know this for a fact. Please tell us your source.

So would I like to know.

There are enough posted drag strip time slips and chassis dyno runs and G-Tech data to form a pretty good opinon on consistency. And then there are the guys who have objectively measured timing advance with different fuels. This is posted all over the place on a number of the board where Endurance engines are the powerplant.

This data suggests that there are no significant differences between the Armada and QX ECU's or their software mapping. Run premium fuel, pick up 10 horses in the Armada (if you've been running regular). Run regular in the QX and lose 10 (if you've been running premium). Horsepower is the same for the same fuel.

Show me a series of dyno pulls on the same day and same machine with Armadas and QX's running on premium and then running on regular and I'll show you printouts that are too close to identical for any variations to be statistically significant.

Now I can't say if the Middle East version of our SUV's produce more power. But it is not controvertable that if you look at factory ratings alone, 305 bhp SAE net = 340 bhp SAE gross. That's just fact.

Not sure about ECU, but there are many differences between GCC Armadas and USA ones. Head of Nissan Mid East said in interview that most Nissans here have upto 500 changes from other markets. The spec on mine is much different to USA, I even have a Tape player for cassettes LOL :) (its a double din unit with 6 cd and radio too). We have no Sat nav or tech package options, no big tow etc etc.

There's one engine, and they're the same.
As far as the hp ratings and gross vs. net.

"Because SAE gross ratings were applied liberally, at best, there is no precise conversion from gross to net. Comparison of gross and net ratings for unchanged engines show a variance of anywhere from 40 to 150 horsepower. The Chrysler 426 Hemi, for example, in 1971 carried a 425 hp gross rating (often considered to be underrated) and a net rating of 375 hp."

The most straight forward definition I found at :

In many countries outside the US where PC means getting the most from your car, they don't have catalytic converters since the pure gas they sell will mess them up real quick. BTDT-Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Honduras....... So tuning an Armada for no cat could easily boost it up to 340 or more. And remember- you lose 1 point of octane for each 1000ft you go up. So if you buy flat land gas at 87 octane and go up to La Paz (13,500ft) you will get noticeably less performance.
